Don't know why everyone is complaining after April update its been great. Maybe you guys just don't want to use a balanced weapon but an Overpowered weapon instead. *cough mida and still last word.
Red Death will forever be a very sentimental weapon for me. It was my first Exotic ever (Thank VoG exotic chest) and it was also the first Exotic I brought with me into TTK. I may not use as much as other primaries but I'll always remember the day I got it and the foes, both in PvP and PvE, that I slayed with it. Red Death all the way.
That brings back the good ole days. When we had to turn in bounties for exotic bounties, everyone you met said you need a G-horn, black hammer and fatebringer were the dream weapons. And TLW, Thorn, and Red Death dominated the crucible. Ahh memories.
Red Death is one of those guys that you would use in particular situations. whenever the Nightfall comes around with Exposure on (player's shield recharge rate is extremely slow), I'm using Red Death because it helps a ton to keep me alive when I'm taking damage. outside of situations where your health is under constant threat, it's not very useful
+Jory Porteous they are which is another thing that I find funny about Red Death. That is is that a Red Spectre with decent rolls will out perform it any day in my opinion
+Jory Porteous No. They aren't. They are supposed to offer features you can't get in legendaries for specific purposes. Red Death offers consistent healing better than any other weapon. It's not supposed to also be the best Pulse Rifle in the game.
+Jory Porteous Sure. But I don't believe just because a weapon is Exotic, it should be able to dominate most game modes. This rifle should hold you over until you get a great Raid weapon which can both DPS and "potentially" heal you with life support, or smarter play.
I agree, Red Death was the first gun i upgraded to 320 since it was my go to in pvp, now since last patch it just sits in my vault, patiently waiting for her time again.
I used Red Death from TTK start till the nerf in December almost exclusive it just didnt feel the same after the nerf . Very well rounded and spot on review.
I used the Red Death during my first fight with Golgoroth in the raid and it helped me out because it can firstly, pick off enemies at longer ranges(major acolytes) and it helped me stay alive as a 295 light level hunter. Definitely a must have weapon
+PlanetDestiny +PlanetDestiny yeah but you can see why people are upset about how bungie has gone about nerfing exotics in general. Like you said hawkmoon one of the top tier exotics on time, now not even worth the exotic slot. I just don't understand why bungie can't for once balance a weapon without destroying to the point it's useless. And what I'm about to say is not supposed to be a offense to you but I don't think bungie always needs help from the community for them to know how to balance their own game. They should now how to do that themselves. if they could make a good PVP in halo you would think they would know how to balance their PVP but no they don't. also they nerf things that don't even need a nerf such as Fusion rifles. I never see a fusion rifle in PVP but for some reason yet again they nerf them when they are the most under used weapon class in the game. By now you see I'm not happy with bungie and the big reason is their lack of communication with THEIR OWN COMMUNITY!
+tbone007thehacker That is if they listen. Now with the internal changes in the company, I feel most of the efforts will go towards new game or perhaps Destiny 2 instead of fixing the current game (matchmaking and lack of content). Truth to be told, listening is only a small step. If we look at what they have been doing in Y2, they always appear to be listening to communities then went on their usual businesses (destroying exotics and auto rifles). Also about that matchmaking, I feel it was only in effect from the last Wednesday to Thursday... Then me and my friends went back to shooting tin cans and toasters in iron banner.
+Mincraft _Duet I feel the review was kinda lil negative to red death - I usually use it at totems part in KF raid and pretty much staying alive thanks to red death
I mainly use this in the raid 75% of the time. Then I use Super Good Advice because it beats the raid machine gun and thunder lord in dps. Plus, on the war priest ,etc I never have to reload, I can continuously keep firing as long as I have high heavy ammo
They should buff other guns back to the way they were in Year 1 (except Thorn) so then exotic guns other than TLW and MIDA are usable. Don't nerf TLW and MIDA, just buff Red Death, Hawkmoon, SUROS, and also just Auto Rifles in general and Fusion Rifles. Bungie always nerfs certain weapons too hard and makes them unusable and then it narrows down the choice of weapons too much.
That is a terrible idea bungie stated why they wouldn't do this a long time ago it's because they want time to kill to stay low and not have it to high so instead they are just nerf some weapons and buff others
+DankWolf I don't think they should be buffed into OP status, but if nobody is using them, it's kind of a failure balance wise. A vast majority of players use MIDA, the last word, 1000 yard, or conspiracy theory. I just think it's a shame that all exotics aren't viable right now. Also, it kinda sucks that there's two specials that outclass their counterparts so completely. I agree with you though, high TTK sucks.
just got this weapon in the "Prison Of Elders" today and it is OP It kills everything in it's path I used it in the "Iron Banner " 2016 I love this my first exotic weapon
Hey Patrick do you think you can make a video on how to build your Hunter in the three subclasses ? Or just one ( Gunslinger ;) ) I have my build but I interested in other options. See ya !
I've been using this in PvP and it's still good to use to me I mean sure it's not what it used to be but still something that stands solid against most foes.
Love this gun and use it all the time in the raid, but it needs a stability and probably range buff to compete with legendaries of the same class in PvP, OR it needs a special one-off ROF/impact archetype to improve its time to kill (improve one while keeping the other stat the same), kind of like MIDA multitool is the only gun with that fire rate.
I want my hawkmoon baby back too..it didn't need a nerf, it was already almost never used in PvP, but now it's almost useless. I'll never forget you, hawkmoon. I'll never shard you, even in Y3.
I remember the very first Trials of Osiris. Burning Shrine. Thorn. Last Word. Felwinter. Efirdeet. THE RAM. Blink/Shotgun. And there I stood, a Defender Titan with the Red Death. Her name was Giana. And she delivered me to ultimate victory. May she rest in peace, now.
Dear god, seeing that Y1 footage of it absolutely shredding players almost brought a tear to my eye. I remember when Xur sold this for the first time right before an Iron Banner. It was everywhere, and it was great. Now it's just sad.
I remember going into trials in year one and people would rock that thing if they weren't having Mexican stand odds with thorn and last word .now a days nobody even uses the red death
i fking love red death in pve. I use it for any part of the raid that im not using BS or ToM. And even during the oryx fight, i swap to it for the echo fight. I dont think I use any other primary in strikes unless I feel like I need my exotic sword for the flayers or something. Its just so reliable and fun to use because of the survivability it offers
not gonna lie. the only time I ever use a red death anymore is during the teleport phase of the the oryx fight. you have a good 10 seconds to switch from your touch to your red death when he "regains the favor of the darkness" and heads to the front of the room. and when the shade comes out and slams, even if I'm far away, I somehow always take damage. so i just find a random thrall that's made its way into the bubble, kill it, and bam. full health.
Another fine video my friend. lots of good thoughts, along with some sad ones. Just shared my 303 Red Death the other day. Would rather use the Bad Juju.
after watching your video I would have to sadly agree with most of what you're saying. I absolutely love my Red Death but when I get down into sweaty trials matches I found myself leaning on Nirwen' Mercy since the time to kill on Red Death is so very slow now
This used to wreck back when it was first buffed. My first game that day I got 44 kills in a single match. I was in the top 2% of most kills in a single game on destiny for a long time thanks only to this gun.
I wish xur would sell this so I can get it I got the suros regime the new design one which is neat I've been using hard light in crucible and it has helped me out quite nicely .
I'm a newer player, and my best primaries are either red death or Monte Carlo. I feel like red death is a bit better, but should I be using it over Monte Carlo?
Reassuring to know the slightly awkward grouping of bullets and leaving people with barely any health wasn't just what I was experiencing now. It's still very usable, but just feels different. It's like I keep subconsciously expecting it to feel like the old Red Death and it throws me off a bit.
i was able to get a red death 310 but i try to use it and yeah if you fail your shots you get punished, now thst i saw this i feel like "i should something better" i never experienced the red death like it used to be before. Should i stick with it? i guess i will keep practicing with Last Word
I got the year 2 version a little while back and started playing with it. I couldn't quite place what was wrong with it, shots weren't hitting, the recoil felt- off, something about it just seemed different in a bad way. Bad juju on the other hand is my second favorite Primary for PvP besides NLB which I have vowed will be the only weapon I use until I think I have mastered it in all things PvP besides trials when I run it.
Hello all i'm missing the chamber of night mission on my game I defeated sword of Crota and the eye of Oryx but this mission is missing. Can someone help me? What am I doing wrong? (PS4)
Just saying my theory for red death is back in the old west trains had stamps for cows and if they killed one they would stamp the side of their train so with mini stamps of human skulls on the side I wonder if every stamp represents a guardian that the red death has killed.
I still use it in PvP to good effect. I understand if the majority of people can't use it as well as before but it's still one of my main guns to use on maps with more range aka maps where The Last Word isn't as effective. Still pulling around a 1.4 - 1.5 K/D when I use it, and I agree Red Death's shots to kill are a bit more inconsistent but it's in no way nearly as bad off as Hawkmoon.
damn i really agree with this review. That last updatr had pulse rifles on the map you could use any pulse from any class and do decent in pvp. Now only high rate pulses compete with the current meta. What a shame :(
The pulse rifle nerf wasn't needed. Killed the entire class IMO. The only ones I really liked were Red Death and the Lyudmila-D. Always felt Hawksaw and PDX needed to be full auto to get the benefit of the speed but since you can't have counterbalance and full auto, I never really cared for them. Still, I hardly ever get killed by Hawksaw and I know a lot of people used to use it, so that says something about how that archetype is doing now as well. Un-nerf pulse rifles, Buff Autos, Buff Fusions, Buff non-Felwinters type shotguns (bring Horseman back to where it was), and make sidearms primaries and I think the game might actually find some balance.
I got lucky and got a 310 red death to drop. It's allowed me to take more risks and support my team no matter what class I am and always pull the insane revives.
I was grinding the hell out of this gun. It was my goal in this game. I got in a while ago in the morning and i was upset to later find out that it sucks now. Hawksaw can fire like an auto rifle AND can 3 burst. Red Death fires super slow and is also a 3 burst and is very punishing if I miss. Why would I use Read Death over hawksaw? Either they need to buff the damage back up or raise the rate of fire.
Red death was my favorite weapon with the pulse rifle buff , I could slay at least an entire team in 1 setting 1 after another now am lucky 2 kill 1 with out them slipping away with a slither of health, R.I.P red death.
Xur sold red death this weekend, I wanted it sooo bad. Now that I have it the aiming feels really buggy, like aiming on the head doesn't score a crit, even aiming chest and letting the recoil end on the head still rarely scores a crit, it's almost like the bullet velocity is lacking or something
Back in year 1 Red Death was my go to weapon thanks to thorn. But now it doesn't feel as great as it did back then. R.I.P Red Death you were a great ally to all the none thorn users, may we have a word of silence for this once great gun.
I'm not sure if they have reviewed legendary guns with the possibility of random rolls, since that would massively affect your performance with the gun. If I'm not wrong, they made a Stillpiercer review and something else?
+Phazanium Yes you can, and it's hard to explain. Normally, getting to it would require 2 people activating panels to open the door leading to it. But if you YT search 'Dreadnaught ultra knight' you can find a way to glitch into the area via jumping into a hidden wall hole with just one character. It rewards a purple emblem called Silent Scream upon defeat that you can't get any other way.
It also used to be THE gun to counter Thorn's DOT making it invaluable.
According to the new in-game description, it is NOT a Guardian killer anymore.
Pretty accurate, sadly. :(
The skulls on the side tell a tale of when it was.
+Hanayo Asa i totally agree with you bro like it takes about 4 shots to kill which end up making me lose the kill to a fellow team mate.
+baseer8000 i still reck with red death. i dont know why so many say that it sucks now.
+Cisco Blue I know man I got it yesterday and got a 3 and 4 KD
Don't know why everyone is complaining after April update its been great. Maybe you guys just don't want to use a balanced weapon but an Overpowered weapon instead. *cough mida and still last word.

thanks for the updated review Patrick, gives me a different perspective on how to speck out this gun.
I see your points about red death but in pvp and/or pve I haven't experienced hardly any issues at all. I find it quite rewarding actually.
+Brad Giddings Same, it takes around one more burst to kill but I haven't noticed a major difference.
+Ben English well actually this is the Major difference
I really miss Red Death because it was my go to weapon since DB but now it just sits in my vault gathering dust
cmon play with me again I'm pretty good
At least I'm better then no land beyond
Dude your guides on this game are hella great I always come here to see what exotics are good, great guides, keep up the good work
It was great once "anit-Thorn era"
+Omar Jehad True
+Omar Jehad Red death used to compete with thorn when you wore ram with it to keep you alive long enough for it to trigger.
That brings back the good ole days. When we had to turn in bounties for exotic bounties, everyone you met said you need a G-horn, black hammer and fatebringer were the dream weapons. And TLW, Thorn, and Red Death dominated the crucible. Ahh memories.

Bungie really needs to buff red death back up to its former glory it was amazing back then
+Shaun Mason It was also OP which would not be healthy for the game
+Charles Seward Hence, the reason Ghorn, Fatebringer, and Black Hammer were basically made unusable...
Mr. McMushu yea pretty much those 3 guns were like having 3 exotic weapons equipped
Yeah... :( The "Good Times"...
problem is we can't say buff shotguns back to their glory without hate
Me: is this gun good?
Planet destiny: NAHH MAN ITS NOT OP FUCK THAT GUN
ha! this comment is everything
Sounds like Red Death is functioning as intended. Not better than Legendaries, but has a solid perk, for a certain play style.
Arnt exotics ment to be better then their legendary counterparts in some way.
+Jory Porteous they are which is another thing that I find funny about Red Death. That is is that a Red Spectre with decent rolls will out perform it any day in my opinion

Red Death is bae. First exotic weapon I ever got, been using it ever since
That God! I didn't think you would actually listen to my suggestion!
wow i got a red death not that long ago and i thought i was amazing but now i feel sad
+Mincraft _Duet Don't feel sad; it's not bad, it's just not as good as it once was. No biggie.
+PlanetDestiny +PlanetDestiny yeah but you can see why people are upset about how bungie has gone about nerfing exotics in general. Stillpiercer is about even with 1000-yard among hunters I think, it's just not available to other classes
just got this weapon in the "Prison Of Elders" today and it is OP It kills everything in it's path I used it in the "Iron Banner " 2016 I love this my first exotic weapon

Not to be mean or anything, but 6:10 was the best voice crack I have ever heard 😆
hey with unflinching I think it reduces flinch on high caliber rounds more than normal fire you should check it out
2:24 that kind of reminded me when you punch a imp with the berserker power up in doom
Can you do the bad juju next
PLEASE
+ssj money Im thinking i'll do NLB next since im actually enjoying it right now. after that ill probably revisit suros, then bad juju.
Patrick Casey ok thanks
+Patrick Casey I remember in a Twitch stream you said the NLB review from Year 1 still stands
+Patrick Casey Looking forward to it! I just started playing in September, so these updated reviews are incredibly helpful.
love your videos planetdestiny!!
+ATadOfNoob _Clash Of Clans Stfu nobody was talking to you and you probably don't even know if his mom is alive or dead you dknt dk shit like that
+Rayjae Buchanan Your fucking pathetic
+abdulkadir bhajikhara *You're and you're pathetic :)
ATTAK get frends please
+abdulkadir bhajikhara *friends
I personally have still been having a lot of success with red death and hawkmoon in pvp. Theyre two of my most used weapons
I agree. I used to go hard with the red death but like you said, I can't finish anyone off in PvP since the buff.
I'd love to see this thing go back to its original rate of fire and impact, matching the Messenger once again. That would be pretty nice.
I love RD it's still really good when combined with firebolt grenades on grenade and 1 burs kills
*burst
Yay! finnaly someone likes me
I think they put unflinching on it because it has cool claw marks as the icon to match the skull icon
I'd say the fact that you can go toe to toe against it with any other weapon is a good thing honestly.
I just use my NLB. It's my baby
I've gone flawless plenty of times in year 2 using the red death
Dude! Thats me and my friend you were killing in the end of the video :DDD Holly shit...
Michael1998-PL and Pascalek2000
I agree with what your saying, but it still feels nice to use for me
Guys remember Vex back in the day... beast!!
I miss the old red death it used to be my go to but now i havnt used it in ttk since i got it
So on the first perk aggressive ballistic is better than field choke?
i fking love red death in pve. I use it for any part of the raid that im not using BS or ToM. And even during the oryx fight, i swap to it for the echo fight.

what gun is he using at 3:11?
What did Red Death used to headshot for back when you could 2 burst? 36?
I wish xur would sell this so I can get it I got the suros regime the new design one which is neat I've been using hard light in crucible and it has helped me out quite nicely .
I still use this in PVP Thing hits like a train if you can get headshots. Also, I love the health regeneration and fast reload.
I'm a newer player, and my best primaries are either red death or Monte Carlo. I feel like red death is a bit better, but should I be using it over Monte Carlo?
which 1000 yard stare does everyone use?
they all seem to have firefly but the vanguard one has triple tap
What is the mission with the ultra knight in this video?
Reassuring to know the slightly awkward grouping of bullets and leaving people with barely any health wasn't just what I was experiencing now. It's still very usable, but just feels different. It's like I keep subconsciously expecting it to feel like the old Red Death and it throws me off a bit.

Hello all i'm missing the chamber of night mission on my game I defeated sword of Crota and the eye of Oryx but this mission is missing. Can someone help me? What am I doing wrong? (PS4)
just got this yesterday..... hated it.... until i opened a few of the perks up now i like it
I think I like the bad juju a little more. Great video
Just saying my theory for red death is back in the old west trains had stamps for cows and if they killed one they would stamp the side of their train so with mini stamps of human skulls on the side I wonder if every stamp represents a guardian that the red death has killed.
There's a saying , 'if it ain't broke then don't fix it ' , pity bungie haven't herd of it....the red death was a beast in yr 1
When will you do an updated review on the bad juju? That's my baby.
Will the "Red Death" perk work in Crota's End?
I still use it in PvP to good effect. I understand if the majority of people can't use it as well as before but it's still one of my main guns to use on maps with more range aka maps where The Last Word isn't as effective. I wish we could use the knife on the front though.
justin mclean Yeah that would make sense
Ben English 1.4-1.5 k/d is really bad in destiny- it would be good in Halo or CS or even sweats in CoD
+Felix Führich be badass if we could. have like a sword fight with a Monte Carlo.
How does it compare to Bad Juju in Year 2?
What do the skeletons on the side mean?
i have a y1 red death and hawk moon i im not sure which i should upgrade to y2 first. any suggestions?
Red death
damn i really agree with this review. That last updatr had pulse rifles on the map you could use any pulse from any class and do decent in pvp. Now only high rate pulses compete with the current meta. What a shame :(
R.I.P. Red Death and Hawkmoon. You will be remembered. T.T
Bungie may have taken the power out of the Red Death - but the way it stood up to Thorn will always make it special.

I still feel like the gun is very good and is still one of my favorite guns to take into any activity excluding the raid
Can you do the supercell? It seemed to be killed by it more in pvp.
Really hope that one day Hawkmoon and Red Death are viable in "competitive" playlists again.
Red death was my favorite weapon with the pulse rifle buff , I could slay at least an entire team in 1 setting 1 after another now am lucky 2 kill 1 with out them slipping away with a slither of health, R.I.P red death.
red death was my first exotic she was so perfect
only place I ever use it is when holding Golgoroth's Gaze, everytime you kill an orb you heal and that reload buff goes hand in hand
Xur sold red death this weekend, I wanted it sooo bad. Now that I have it the aiming feels really buggy, like aiming on the head doesn't score a crit, even aiming chest and letting the recoil end on the head still rarely scores a crit, it's almost like the bullet velocity is lacking or something
its because you suc...oh wait
the red death was my go 2 flawless weapon. yr1 30+ flawless yr2 8 so far
Back in year 1 Red Death was my go to weapon thanks to thorn. But now it doesn't feel as great as it did back then. R.I.P Red Death you were a great ally to all the none thorn users, may we have a word of silence for this once great gun.
what should they change for it to feel more exotic?
you guys should review the suros dis-43 I feel like that is a majorly under rated scout rifle
gun smith is also selling it this week
They dont review legendary weapons
THConer pretty for sure they have
THConer I doubled checked myself and your very wrong sir. But thanks for playing
I'm not sure if they have reviewed legendary guns with the possibility of random rolls, since that would massively affect your performance with the gun. If I'm not wrong, they made a Stillpiercer review and something else?
how do you get to that ultra knight and can you farm with 3oc with it?
+Phazanium Yes you can, and it's hard to explain. Normally, getting to it would require 2 people activating panels to open the door leading to it. But if you YT search 'Dreadnaught ultra knight' you can find a way to glitch into the area via jumping into a hidden wall hole with just one character. It rewards a purple emblem called Silent Scream upon defeat that you can't get any other way.
Bungie : " hey Patrick , how's that crucible game goin ? "
Pat: " great, I'm killin it with my red death ! "
Bungie : nerfed *
Wait when did this happen? Did other things get ninja-nerfed?
When u doin suros regime year 2?
Should we double our sidearms in destiny?
So... Can someone just tell me if it's a good idea to get it back from the Exotic Weapon Blueprints, or would Bad Juju be a better choice?
Also, I already have Mida Multi Tool and The Ace Of Spades... So should I just stick with those and keep the Mida as my main?
Or would the Suros Regime be a better choice?
I would say mida is a better choice
I have a year 1 red death, do I have to find a year 2 one? The year 2 red death isn't in my blueprints...
SeoulDiamondZ Maybe ur game is broke?

The February update is almost upon us. I'm assuming weapon rebalances will be here.
