@rayray4192 5 months ago The quintessential definition of grace is unmerited favor. All redeemed saints come to God empty handed. We have nothing to give God except our sins. *Paul might think so as he argues that we are saved by grace and not of works in Ephesians 2:8-9. Yet, Christ comes back to these same Ephesians in Revelation 2 and warns them if they don’t “Repent and DO THE FIRST WORKS” that he will remove their candlestick, only granting right to the tree of life to those who overcome in this message. Why didn’t Christ rather say, “Look, don’t bother, just believe grace will save you?” like Paul was peddling? Do you not find it interesting that all you can imagine to offer to God is your sins, not your love or your obedience or your loyalty in what you said above??? Let me explain why you find yourself in this unfortunate situation. Paul in Acts 23:6 admits he is still very much a Pharisee, bringing the entire body of his doctrine under Christ’s warning in Matthew 16 to beware the doctrine of the Pharisees: a warning most Christians ignore to their own detriment. Christ also warns us that Pharisees like Paul make their converts twice the child of hell than themselves in Matthew 23:15. And this Pharisee Paul, after warning us in 2Cor 11 to not marvel that Satan’s ministers are transformed into ministers of righteousness in the very next chapter in 2Cor 12:7 admits to having a “messenger of Satan”. You would think more Christians would sit up and take notice of that before buying into Paul’s ideas of grace. Because Christ also warns us that Pharisees like Paul are of their father the devil in John 8:44, which leaves me wondering how a Pharisee like Paul with his messenger of Satan in 2Cor 12:7 is going to pass Christ’s qualifications of having righteousness greater than that of a Scribe and Pharisee which is required in order to enter the kingdom of God in Matthew 5:20-especially when Christ in Matthew 23:13 is rebuking the Scribes and Pharisees like Paul for not entering his kingdom and not suffering others to enter in??? The moment Paul tried to lure people out from under God’s law to be under his grace alternative instead in Romans 6:14, Paul brought himself under the warning of God in Isaiah 8:20 where God says that anyone like Paul speaking not according to the law and testimony has no light in them. Because God binds up the testimony and seals his law among his disciples in Isaiah 8:16. So, Paul is trying to rob people of becoming God’s disciples by teaching them to join him in rejecting the very seal of God. This idea of binding up the testimony and being sealed by the law comes from Deuteronomy 6 where God urges people to bind the law to their right hand and forehead. This is to protect us from the problem arising in Revelation 14 under the Third Angel’s Message where people take instead the mark of the beast in their right hand and forehead. The question is which choice will we ultimately make here? Will we come under the protection of God’s law or will we abandon God’s law for the mark of the beast???
Grace as Jason staples has shown in greek is a term for reciprocation meaning yiu have now been given the spirit so you can be obedient and do the works that lead to a good judgement. "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Salvation is something you work towards as Paul states you don't already have it as him and jesus make clear the final judgment will be based on works.
An example from my own life... I was addicted to porn. It took me a while to realize that I CAN'T free myself of the addiction. It was getting somewhat better due to my own attempts, but when the Holy Spirit set me free from it, there was NO QUESTION that I would be forever 100% free from it. The deliverance came over me in an instant. Not that I may never stumble ever again, but that's not even my focus or worry anymore, and the sin no longer has dominion over me. I'm not a slave to it anymore. It's been about 2 years now, and I haven't gone back to porn, PRAISE JESUS! It's a deliverance that can only come from God. And it only comes when we REPENT from our self righteous deeds and throw ourselves at His mercy that we don't deserve and that we'll never deserve. And He will cleanse us of our sin. The good "works" of a Christian truly do come from a changed heart. We are new creations!!!

The law was only given to old Covenant Israel and has not existed for nearly two thousand years. **He has revealed his word to Jacob, his laws and decrees to Israel. In fact, after that in Matthew 5:19 He says "Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Did Jesus tell the truth here? Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Matthew 7:23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’ Are you saying Jesus lies? how about John 14:15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. James 2:14-17 What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? 17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. If all these verses found in the Bible are true, then Berkson is not the one that looks ands sounds like the false prophet here.
Thanks so much for these studies. I was also a sabbath keeper, when I first heard about sabbath and other things I was excited to do all that I thought God wanted from me and I remember feeling prideful because I was in the true church. As time passed my questions and doubts grew. I battled with guilt for years, afraid that I was doing the wrong thing by leaving this denomination and losing my salvation, I’m so grateful the Lord has revealed His truth.
Keeping the Sabbath holy is not something that makes us better than others. Even gentiles should honour the Sabbath but it’s not a law for them. There is no punishment for not keeping it but a reward if they do. Any church that threatens with hellfire is just a cult. God is a righteous judge, not a monster who enjoys torturing people for all eternity, no matter how evil they were. People are judged according to what they have done, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Eternal punishment is no just punishment for something you did for a period of time. The church has made God into a monster who you must love or else you go to hell. Thats not God at all. God loves you, even if you sin, and rejoices when you repent.
Maybe, but unfortunately we don’t have the letters of the other side. The Roman church was very good to destroy all evidence that contradicted their theology and only kept what agreed with them. Those who didn’t go along with their doctrines were expelled and called heretics. Later they burned them on the stake. That’s how the “orthodox” doctrines survived and were made popular.
When I found out that the word Believe means "rest in", that changed everything! I literally thought the word Believe was an action word because of legalistic preachers!
Recommend you look up Strong's greek 4100, it is the word Pisteuo that is often translated believe. I think you will find out that whoever told you that believe means to rest in was't being honest.
That’s interesting but how did you find this out? To me believe is an action word because it means to trust God and do what he tells you to do. When you trust someone you just do what they tell you without wanting to know the exact reason why you should do something. So I guess in a way we’re ‘resting in’ them by just trusting them that everything will be ok.

Works (I believe) does not mean the fallowing of the 613 laws. It means the expressing the LOVE of God and each other that Christ taught through His life. On these hang all the laws and prophets. These are the works of faith.
@@marksr49341 yes, they are laws given to the nation of Israel. That’s why in the book of Acts at the Jerusalem council it was decided that believers in Jesus who are gentiles don’t need to be circumcised but are only bound by the Noahide laws that are given for all mankind. Yet Christians often take it further than that even trying to convince Jews in Israel that the law has been abolished. Yet even in the gospels of the New Testament Jesus made it very clear that he did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. Fulfilling the law was an obligation for all the Jews, it means to fully follow all commandments. It doesn’t mean to abolish it. In the book of Acts Paul goes out of his way to prove that he is not teaching apostasy from the law of Moses by undergoing a purification ritual together with other men which includes an animal sacrifice. He clearly still followed all the required Jewish laws which makes us question, is this the same Paul who wrote the letters saying the law has been abolished. Something clearly doesn’t add up here unless Paul was a deceiver who only pretended to keep the law of Moses.

I didn't see this coming. After 18 years of marriage my husband has become torah observant and is upset that I do not submit to his authority in this belief. I am numb after so many conversations. I love my husband but my soul is not comfortable at all with following all the 613 laws. I feel condemned daily by my spouse. Lord open the eyes of those falling for this heresy and show them grace and truth, bring peace to my soul as I try to be submissive.

This is all so hard to navigate and I'm thankful so many of us can come together in Scripture to work through the "how-tos." You are correct to not give up your beliefs. When and how to surrender our freedoms in the home, especially with children involved is messy. I am praying the Holy Spirit bring you clarity on how and what to do, even if just day by day for now.

When I hear such claims (that salvation = grace + works), I immediately want to ask several questions: 1) How many works, and which ones, do I have to do to earn my salvation? Please give me a list of them and the criteria for measuring them from the Bible. The only unambiguous and terrifying criterion I found is "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." 2) What about a single failure/sin in my life, even after repentance? Does it count somehow, curse me, or what? What will be the mathematical formula of my accordance on the scales of the highest court in the end? 3) What works were done by the thief on the cross to whom Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise"? Are these the same amount and type of works that should be done according to the answer to the first question? If yes, I can tell the list of works is quite short 😅. If no, it means Jesus lied to this man.
1) Which ones? Read the front of the book.. The way Jesus/Apostles/Paul tells others to do. 2) Reflect and read Paul's letters to the Ephesians and Galatians, moreover 1 John and James 3) If he was an Israelite is it possible he had a repentant heart - a contrite heart? He may have understood breaking the law and justice is how the world works. [all we can do is speculate]
You're saved when you repent and believe in Yahushua. Look up: Eliyah Ministries, Saved by a Faith that Works Proverbs 24:16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief. Ezekiel 18:24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
It's not difficult. When you sin, just repent. If you stole, do restitution as much as you can. If you sinned against your brother, go to him and apologise. The sinner on the cross was justified because he sincerely repented and it was demonstrated by him defending Jesus, which is a good work.
When he called the gospel foolish, it reminded me of first Corinthians: For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."
Were you people redeemed from the curse of the law that Paul is referring to in Galatians 3 when he said "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law"?
The scary thing is not so much what he says (which is horrifying ) but the fact that the congregation doesn’t fact check him with an authorized version of the Bible. Total lack of discernment.
The reality is that most Christians don't fact check the doctrines taught in their churches. Pastors don't usually encourage to fact check. Sometimes they might say to check your bible but I never heard of any pastor who tells their congregation to learn Hebrew or consult Rabbis who know Hebrew so they can really fact-check because they know that once you do this you will become a problem for them.
True faith naturally produces good works, but good works don't produce saving grace. That's what Jesus was talking about when he called the religious leaders of his day "Whitewashed tombs full of dead men's bones."
I agree with the first half of your statement that 'true faith naturally produces good works', however the second part is questionable. As James in his letter pointed out, Rahab, a prostitute, was saved by what she did. She wasn't a Israelite but she recognised that He had given the Israelites the land because of the stories she heard about the Exodus. Now she was not the only one who heard the stories because she said that they all heard about these stories and were terrified. What distinguished her from the others was that she had the opportunity to do a good work for the Israelites and did it. Her good works together with the opportunity given produced saving grace.
Jesus also said that they make the Word of God to no effect, teaching their traditions of men. He also said if we break one of the least of the commandment, we will be least in the Kingdom.
@@genestudniskisr2658 exactly, they make and still make the word of God of no effect teaching traditions of men like the orthodox doctrines of the trinity and virgin birth of Jesus. It’s high time the church repents and returns back to follow the Torah teaching all of it and not just picking out verses out of context that suits their own desires. However, we need to differentiate between Jews and Gentiles. The law applies to all men but not every law applies to every person. There are laws that only apply to priests, others only apply to Jews and still others that only apply to Gentiles, also called strangers. Noah was no Jew, nor was Abraham. They are said to have kept all of God’s laws and statutes. The law or Torah therefore existed even before Moses gave the law to the people of Israel.
I have asked the question, "why does Christ leave us here after we come to him?" But that thinking is so childish. We are called to spread His kingdom. That's one of the commands he gives us.

Unfortunately this happened then and we still suffer the consequences of it. It's very difficult today to distinguish between truth and error because for nearly two thousand years the church participated in the destruction of all that which contradicted the orthodox faith, including exiling bishops, burning their writings and even using torture and burning them on the stake with the justification that they only were trying to save their souls from hell. It's time the church becomes honest about their doctrines that they are seriously flawed.

I teach and believe that obedience is God’s “love language.” Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). And I'm sure you would agree that not every command that God has given applies to every person at all times. Some of His commands only apply to certain people (i.e., men, women, parents, Levitical priests) or for certain times (i.e., building an ark, gathering manna, while in exile). And I'm sure you would also agree that we are each only expected to keep the commands of God that apply to us. The NT teaches that the ceremonial commands given under the Law of the Sinai Covenant do not apply to Christians today. (ex. Repeated blood sacrifices for sin are no longer required (Heb 10:18).) We still serve God and obey His commands, “But now we are released from the law, having died with Christ to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code” (Rom 7:6). The very definition of grace shows that salvation is free in and of itself. Grace translates to the Greek word CHARIS which means "unmeritted favor." This is why Paul says in ephesians "for by grace you have been saved (past tense) through faith and NOT OF YOURSELVES, it is a gift of God. Not of works so that no one may boast." This is also why in John's gospel (the one actually written to save the lost; see john 21:30-31) he gives the sole criteria to be saved which is to believe. This is also why Paul tells the church of Rome the difference between grace and works in Romans 11:7 "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." Believe the gospel performed on your behalf (the death, burial and resurrection) and recieve eternal life today. Jesus died to pay the penalty for your sin which is death. If he already payed your debt then there is only one place to go.
The danger in these types of teachings that the Rabbi makes is that they appeal to our nature of getting things done and the truth of relying in the Holy Spirit is completely foreign to humanity Relying on someone else to be able to do something does not make sense Look I am in total agreement with you but what I am saying is that without careful study and proper understanding of our faith some of us who believe in grace find our self living out works based salvation Motivating our self’s to love And so on …

@@simonskinner1450 I wouldn't be so sure. In James 4 he references the law in the context of not judging your brother, that if you judge the law you are not a doer of the law, but a judge. He also references the prophets (which includes Moses) as an example to follow (Jam 5:10).

@@rightousliving James is making the point of not judging others other than against God's laws, brethren are under the jurisdiction of God's laws, and must be held accountable to them, and as such must not be spoken against. The prophets suffered by the hand and mouth of fellow believers, as they made up there own laws, and were called hypocrites. The point I make is that "works of the law" are not attempts to keep the law, but the imputation or accusation of sin. He keeps saying that the idea that salvation is by grace, and not works, is foolish. 1 Corinthians 1:23 says (NASB 95), "but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,". This passage is fulfilled in Mr. Berkson.
If those people in that audience KNEW the Bible and it's teachings, then they would have walked out of there, knocking the dust off their feet at the door, never to return to that wicked organization and its false teachers!
They are there because it more true, Most people claiming to be Christians are followers of a twisting of Paul, not Christ. This is why without Paul's letters Christianity can't support their belief system.

We see the admonishing and Acts 21 starting at around 19. We also see it concerning the circumcision argument where James orders gentiles to learn at the synagogues where they would learn the law of God. The twisting comes from gentiles understanding of a Jewish religion and mixing their old religion and cultures to the Bible

See that? It was decided that the GENTILES who believe, "...they should observe no such thing..." You also seemed to have missed where it also says, "...and that all may know that those things of which they were informed concerning you are nothing..." Now, where did you see Paul or any other true believer offering up blood sacrifices?

Because you don't know the law, You're left in a dark about what's going on. Please read numbers 6. Paul is performing what is done starting at verse 13. They have to make a sacrifice prior to shaving their head.

Hello Mr. Solberg, I pray you are well... I enjoy your videos. And I have to admit that I was decieved into the Hebrew Roots doctrine nearly 10 years ago. I no longer share these viewpoints as of around two years ago. Since well before I entered the doctrine of Hebrew Roots/Messianics congregations I have felt a calling on my life to teach and share the message of truth. And in late 2018, my family and I relocated to Cleveland, TN under the impression (that he gives) that this man would train me to become the teacher that I "thought" I needed to be. We spent one year with this congregation, and it was one of the worst years of my family's journey to grow closer to God. I don't like to degrade people, nor personally attack anyone, so I will not be saying too much more about his character or his personal issues. But I can and will say that he teaches so many things that are contrary to the way Yeshua would have us to live our lives and treat others. While I take issue with some of the things that you teach as well, I highly respect your approach and humility. I also appreciate the fact that you leave your comment section open for opposing views that we may (as you called it) be bereans. I too welcome all opposing doctrine as thisvis the only way we truly get to the bottom of what the truth really is. Now, I do teach others about the word of God, but I am not yet a TH-cam video maker, "so to speak" that I can make rebuttal videos against any doctrines I encounter. But maybe one day I will be able to send you a link to my rebuttal video to your teachings that we may have a meaningful discussion. 🙂 But for now.... May God bless you on your quest for the truth!

Use Phillipians 2:13 [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while [19]effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and [20]delight. @@jasonwhite646 all of Hebrews 11 supports what James says in chapter 2. Faith requires a work of obedience. Hebrews gives examples of faith from Enoch to Abraham, to David and the Prophets. Like I said, it's not the hearers of the words that are justified but the doers.

What happens to a person who believes in Christ and doesn't obey Christ? According to James he will not be saved for he is just like a demon. To be obedient to Christ YOU have to do something. Unfortunately modern theology has ruined biblical terminology, so today we experience in churches false dichotomies through vague and ambiguous terms. The fact is you don't 'work' for salvation but you do work for your faith. You can't do 'nothing' and be obedient to Christ and receive the free gift of salvation. According to James, Abraham's actions perfected his faith. "You see a man is justified by his deeds (of faith) and not by faith alone." James 2:24
James is talking to already saved Christians about the faith of the believers to be useful to others. Help the less fortunate etc. It's not about salvation. Romans 4:5 should be enough for this. But it never is.

You're absolutely right! Paul uses that phrase as a point of distinction, because he knows that there are works of faith that bring about a justifying faith and reward - as James points out. This video is a perfect example of an overreaction to a person trying to synthesis James teachings to Paul teachings. Is work done for the benefit of oneself not of a different nature than work done for the benefit of another/others? It seems to me even non-believers can grasp the distinction, (and I don't doubt garner favor with God when such work for other is done earnestly). This man is apparently thinking one can mix the two without God noticing . . (Me no think so ; )
The Scriptures are what my group used just before I left. They still use it. The Palestinian Targums was also a book used. I own it, but have not read more than the first few pages.
My family was torn apart by this man's teaching. I fought with all my heart to save my wife and children from this teaching. In the end a 23 year marriage was destroyed and my children were taken away from me. There are many broken families in this congregation. The teaching is that you can get a divorce for any reason. The work we are to do is the obedience of faith. So those who say we are to be obedient must understand that the obedience that God wants is faith in Christ. John 6:28-29 Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” This is The Work we will be judged on ~ our obedience of faith in Christ. Here is me searching the scriptures to reason with you. Most of the error of you arguments is because you stick almost exclusively Paul. As Peter said many people would twist Paul's letters to their own destruction (II Peter 3:16). It's funny, DeVeau, because when my Hebrew Roots friends want to challenge my interpretation of Paul, what would you guess is the number one thing they say? They'll point me to 2 Peter 3:16, which says that Paul's letters contain some things that are hard to understand which ignorant and unstable people distort. So what exactly is Peter talking about when he says that "some things" are hard to understand? What "things" is he talking about? Well, if we read the whole chapter, we find that Peter is talking about the delay of Christ's return. That's the issue that's hard to understand! He says humans are impatient and it's hard to know why Jesus is so slow in returning, but we need to stay strong and be ready. Read the chapter for yourself. So we can't use this verse as a catch-all to describe anything in Paul's letters that we think someone else doesn't understand. But the reason why you're being defensive on this is because your whole ideology rests on Paul, knowing that the Bersia Jews wouldn't be searching Paul's letters as scripture.. So so so many supposed Christians do not know the difference between the Mosaic Covenant and the New Covenant nor the Laws and the Commands. The OC (also known as the Mosaic Covenant) was mediated by Moses and kept by performing the Law ( Moses the Mediator - Exodus 20:18-23 and Galatians 3:19. OC must be performed - Deuteronomy 4:13). The New Covenant was mediated by Jesus and kept by faith (Jesus the mediator - Luke 22:20 and Hebrews 9:15; Hebrews 12:24. The NC must be believed and kept by faith -John 6:40,47 and John 8:24) The Laws of the OC that must be performed are the Ten Commandments - Deuteronomy 4:13. The Commands of Jesus are every word out of His mouth - Deuteronomy 18:18,19 which can be condensed to believe in Jesus and love one another - 1 John 3:23)

The thing is, trusting in Jesus for salvation based on the mercy and grace of Yahweh alone fits the model already well established in the history of Israel. Over and over and over again we see how obedience to the voice of God alone leads to salvation and deliverance. They’re no better than Moses who struck the rock for water when God didn’t tell him to.
I can see where the confusion comes from. The majority of Christianity doesn't understand the Torah and therefore doesn't really know who God is. Therefore there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. Yes, but when are you in Christ? When you obey His commandments. If you say you know Jesus, but don't obey Him we are liars (1 John 2:4). What you do definitely matters where you end up in the Kingdom (Matthew 5:18-19) and not following His commandments will not even get you in the Kingdom (Matthew 7:21). Following commandments are not getting you salvation, but it will show if you truly know Jesus. It's like getting a passport for a country you want to live in, but not wanting to follow the rules of the country. The death of Jesus gets us a passage into the Kingdom, but we should learn the rules of the Kingdom (the Torah + prophets). If we don't want to follow the rules of the Kingdom, why we want to earn the passage anyway? God asked us to be holy, for He is holy. Do we fail? Yes. Should we therefore stop trying? No! Is the rabbi wrong about teaching that salvation is merited? Yes, but I also understand what he is trying to say. The Pharisees were keeping the law to earn their salvation. Salvation can only come through faith and faith will bring you to keep the law out of gratitude. The law is the goal to get you to understand you need Jesus, when you know Jesus, you want to follow His commandments. It's that simple. Grace cannot exist without the law and without the law you don't need Jesus. God or Jesus never promises us a life in heaven, but only eternal life. You either die (be destroyed) or be granted eternal life in Gods Kingdom here on earth. When you have the spirit and a new heart it will make you walk out the law (Ezekiel 11:19-21). Trying to obey God because we love Him definitely doesn't lead to death, but following the law without faith and without Jesus does. Saying we believe in Jesus while we are not following the law, makes us liars.

If you are in a courtroom today try to treat the judge and prosecutor that they don't matter and beg for grace, you don't earn it but by your merit you MAY have favor. I don't support the rabi, but believe more similarily to his teaching. If you "follow" him -- you go the same way as He goes.

Ok. I love this dialog. Thank you! To be clear. I don't think that flesh only is defined by self righteousness. That's not biblical. Galations 5:19-21. Acts of the flesh are also overt sins. Grace is not just about our forgiveness of past, present and future sins (as in sinning- verb-action of iniquity. ) But grace also includes our flesh dying to sin so that sin may no longer be our master. We died with Christ! Grace not only gives us a right standing before God, but also gives us victory over sins power. Some do not teach Grace this way and teach it more as a license. That's concerning. We should reckon our 'wretched ' flesh dead with Christ daily as Paul did. Come into agreement with God, that it must die so Christ may live through us. A believer reckoning himself dead with Christ daily is not a self-righteous act - to be clear. But its agreeing with God by faith. That's the power of the body of Christ, not just the blood. Blessings.
I like a lot of what Solberg does. But, he's offering a biased and incomplete doctrine here, so I call foul. Sadly, he cherry picks passages out of context. He avoids the numerous passages where the New Testament (and Jesus in specific) clearly states that obedience to Christ's commands are a required evidence of faith (Matthew 3:10, John 8:31, John 13:34, John 14:15, Luke 10:37, Romans 6:16, James 1:22 just to name a few). Think about what the Bible says of Abraham. Did God just unilaterally grant him favor and blessings? No. Abraham was found righteous BY FAITH. Oh, so God saw that Abraham had faith in his heart, and then granted him favor and preference? No. Abraham had faith and THEREFORE acted in faith and obedience, even taking his only son to the mountain for slaughter. That was the proof of Abraham's faith, and that's what James is talking about. Whenever Paul is talking about "faith not works," he's admonishing those who think that keeping Jewish law will save them. He's not referring to the command to be obedient to Christ. Solberg's way off here, and I suspect it's because he's a closet Calvinist.

Okay, so Romans 11 is introduced to argue that Paul sees works and grace as incompatible ideas. And while this is true of Paul’s view of grace, it isn’t necessarily true of how the rest of the Bible views the concept of grace. Grace is an Old Testament idea originally, long before paul started tampering with its meaning in his writings, and no one speaking of the use of grace in the Old Testament was asking people to come out from under the law to be under a lawless state of grace like Paul does in Romans 6:14. An observant Bible student would know that anyone speaking against the law and testimony and teaching spiritual anarchy like Paul does in Romans 6:14 is in direct violation of Isaiah 8:20-22 and has no light in them. God warns these people will curse both God and king and be driven into darkness. But, Christians ignore this warning and blindly follow Paul over a cliff anyway. This is concerning, because Paul admits openly to having a “messenger of Satan” in 2Corrinthians 12:7, after warning us in his previous chapter of 2Corrinthians 11 that Satan’s ministers are transformed into ministers of righteousness. This immediately raises the question of whether or not Paul was one of those transformed individuals parading around as a Christian, seeing he admits to having a “messenger of Satan”. And when God in 2Cor 12:7-10 does not remove Paul’s messenger of Satan, Paul makes up a convenient excuse that God’s grace is sufficient for him, revealing that Paul’s idea of grace leaves him high and dry, doing nothing to meaningfully resolve the problem with his messenger of Satan. Could that be God trying to tell us something serious about Paul that Christians are utterly ignoring? But, the greater problem with Paul’s excuse is that Paul claims to be an apostle. And in Luke 9:1, Christ gave all his true apostles power over ALL DEVILS, not merely a few. So, how is it that a man claiming to be an apostle like Paul can’t get rid of a “messenger of Satan” in 2Cor 12:7 if he is supposed to be an apostle??? Let me guess, Paul is the one apostle Christ didn’t give that power over all devils too? I mean, if we are truly going to test ideas according to the Scriptures, and not conveniently skirt around the dirty laundry here, we need to deal with the problem of Paul far more directly than Christians pretend to do when push comes to shove. Because Paul also blurts out in Acts 23:6 that he is still a Pharisee. Not only does this reveal that Paul is calling his conversion away from Phariseeism to become a follower of Christ into serious question, it also brings Paul under the scrutiny of Christ’s own warning in Matthew 16 to beware the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees; thus, calling the entire body of Paul’s doctrine into question: being another warning Christians like to conveniently ignore. Furthermore, Christ warns in Matthew 23:15 that Pharisees like Paul will make their procelites twice the child of hell than themselves and in John 8:44 that Pharisees like Paul are of their father the devil; thus, explaining why Paul would have a “messenger of Satan” as he openly admits in 2Cor 12:7. Not that Christians are paying attention. And if Matthew 5:20 has Christ arguing that unless our righteousness is greater than the Scribes and Pharisees we will in no wise enter the kingdom of God, we must then ask How Paul plans to get himself and his “messenger of Satan” in 2Cor 12:7 into the kingdom of God??? So, we might want to resolve some of these primary problems with Paul, before using Paul as an authority to call others into question. Because to fail to do so would be hipocrisy of the highest order-especially in light of the fact that in Deuteronomy 13 God makes it exceedingly clear that he will send in false prophets and such just to test to see if we love him or if we will follow after false teachers away from God. And Paul’s calling us out from under God’s law is not just provoking God to conclude in Isaiah 8:20 that there is no light in Paul, it is also revealing that Paul is opposing Isaiah 8:16 where God says to bind up the testimony and seal the law among my disciples. If you are a disciple of God, why would you follow Paul out from under the protection of the seal of God which is his law, to be under Paul’s lawless alternative of grace? The binding of the law to the right hand and forehead is a practice that is discussed in Deuteronomy 6, and the alternative in Revelation 14 is to receive the mark of the beast in one’s right hand and forehead instead. So, was Paul setting up millions of Christians to flee from the protection of God’s seal to be partakers of the mark of the beast? This might help to explain in greater detail why God says that those like Paul who speak against the law and testimony have NO LIGHT IN THEM in Isaiah 8:20. But, notice, those who get the victory and stand on the sea of glass do not sing the song of Paul and the Lamb, but the song of Moses and the lamb instead: because Moses and Christ are the two prophets of Deuteronomy 18. Paul is a liar, a fraud, a Pharisee with a messenger of Satan who tried to create a wedge between God’s law and the gospel of Christ to derail Christianity. It’s time Christians woke up to this reality already. Of course, if you go to Romans 4 and pull up Paul’s example of Abraham, you must also compare it to James 2:20-24, because James disagrees with Paul and insists Abraham was justified by works. James argues that it is works that makes our faith perfect, further holding to his former position in verse 17 that faith without works is dead being alone. So, when Paul pushes his idea of grace in Romans 4:1-4, and pushes justification by faith without works in verse 5, Paul comes under the scrutiny of James 2:17 which argues that Paul is teaching a doctrine of “dead faith”, seeing James holds that faith without works is dead, BEING ALONE, not a doctrine of living faith. By verse 18, James continues to test Paul’s idea of dead faith asking him to show he even has faith without his works. Just saying Paul has faith without works is not proof he has faith at all. By verse 19, James is arguing that even the devils believe, likely aware that Paul admits in 2Cor 12:7 to having a “messenger of Satan”; thus, helping to expose that Paul may not be the best source to get one’s doctrinal position on faith and grace from. And we have a pretty good idea that James 2 is a direct response to Romans 4, because these are the only two chapters in the New Testament which discuss this idea of imputing righteousness. So, this now leaves us with the question of are we really saved by dead, imperfect faith in Paul’s doctrine of salvation, or are we rather better off holding to a doctrine of living faith which is perfected by our works as James 2 teaches instead?
I used to listen to mtoi a lot. I heard him say, "Why are you searching for other rabbis, I should be enough." That was it for me. I listen to several studies, just as with all "religions" there is truth and there are lies. It is our job to discern the truth from lies. I don't push people to be torah observant, but I try my hardest to observe the commands of my father. Just as Messiah did. I WORK at it (where as it was easy for him, I am speculating). Messiah was the most precious gift of all time. When I fail misrably and fall short, the almightys gift of grace (through the sacrifice of his son) saves me.
My brother you have it all wrong. We are not saved by works of the law but by the works of faith. Mt.5:28-29; Rev 22:12. Works of the law (legalism) are futile attempts by the flesh to manifest deeds in obedience to the law. Works of faith are good deeds resulting from obedience to the good law by the Spirit. The rabbi is closer to the truth than you are. Yours is lawlessness which means there is no sin because there is no law!! Faith leads to grace Which then empowers us to obey God by His law, a transcript of His character and will. Rom.4:16; 8:1-7; Act 5:32. Saints are so because they keep law by the power of grace from the faith of Jesus. Rev.14:12. My brother, unless you're doing it deliberately, l pray that you get the following facts. 1. Sin is doing evil works through transgression of law 1Jn 3:4; 1Sam.15:24. 2. Obedience to God is foundation of worship. ''Trust And Obey, For there is no other way.... We obey God by keeping his commandments. Jn.15:10: 14:15. 3.Faith does not replace obedience to law.Rom.3:31. Faith is just but a means to an end, obedience by Spirit of grace to achieve salvation. My.19:17; Heb.5:9; Rom.8:3-4. 4. Just like the angels, unfallen Adam didn't need grace to keep law because he was also ''not under the law '' Ps.103:19-20. By the Spirit we are no longer under the law and we can keep the law because we are then as spiritual as the law. Gal 5:18. The opposite of to be under the law in Paul's language (Rome.6:14; Gal 4:4) is to be equal to or a match for the law. But we are not above the law just because there is empowering grace. Rom.6:15. 5. The ten moral commandments together constitute a transcript of the perfect character and will of God. To acquire that character we need to continually obey and meditate upon His law. 2Cor.3:8. But in our fallen flesh we can't keep it. Rom.7:14; 8:7. Christ came to provide us with the power of grace (gospel. Rome.1:16) so that we may once again regain the heavenly character just like the obedient angels whom we shall co-exist with. Moral commandments is everything to do with God's character. Works of faith is what we need because the Spirit enables us to manifest pleasing deeds of obedience. Gal.5:22-23. Works of the law is vanity because flesh can only manifest works of disobedience to God. Gal 5:19-21.
Now, Paul in Romans 3 and 5 is certainly claiming that grace is a “free gift”. But, Christ never teaches that grace is a “free gift”. Just as Christ never teaches this idea of man being “saved by grace” either. We first see this idea spoken of by Peter in Acts 15, but only after Peter has been influenced by that old Pharisee Paul during the debates which took place at the first church council. And Paul’s arguing that we are saved by grace in Ephesians 2:8-9 is problematic, because Christ comes back to John in Revelation 2, having John write to the same church of Ephesus to repent and DO THE FIRST WORKS, the exact opposite of Paul’s idea of being saved by grace and “NOT OF WORKS” in Ephesians 2:8-9. Christ warns that if they do not do this, he will remove their candlestick, and only those who overcome in the church of Ephesus Christ offers the tree of life, suggesting that salvation depends heavily on works. As for wages, Christ says he will pay a penny to those who come and work for him in one of his parables. The penny he is obviously talking about is eternal life, because it is the same penny that he gives all his workers in the parable. So, while it might offend Paul that people work to earn their salvation, that is not logically equivalent to it offending God. And if Christ didn’t believe works save us, why did Christ spare the sheep for the works they did, but destroyed the goats for the same list of works they failed to do in the parable of the sheep and goats in Matthew 25? Clearly, the goats should have responded to Christ and said, “But, Paul said we don’t have to do works to earn our salvation”. So, Christ introduced parables which argues for the opposite of what Paul is teaching. Again, this raises the question, should we be following Paul who has a messenger of Satan in 2Cor 12:7 and who blurts out he is still a Pharisee in Acts 23:6, or should we be more careful and realize Paul infiltrated Christ’s movement conveniently after Christ’s ascention, and we need to beware his doctrine as Christ warns us in Matthew 16 concerning Pharisees like Paul? As for the Abraham issue from Genesis, many argue that it is actually Abraham believing God and counting God as being righteous for the promise God makes with Abraham, not Abraham being counted righteous for simply believing God’s promise. So, Paul’s view depends on how one interprets the engagement between God and Abraham. Seeing that James counter’s Paul’s view and argues that Abraham is justified by works in James 2:20-24, it becomes evident that James wasn’t exactly buying into Paul’s interpretation of the Abraham issue. And just because Paul worries that a person might boast of their works, Paul does nothing to guarantee that they will necessarily boast, so even that argument from Paul is weak and mostly irrelevant to the fact of whether or not God views their works as relevant to their salvation. Paul is not the judge, so his word would not be even remotely final on such a matter. And notice, the sheep in the parable of the sheep and goats Christ saves according to the works Christ points out, he doesn’t portray those sheep as boasting at all. So, Paul is easily refuted in this line of reasoning from Christ’s own teachings. In fact, the last two parables of Matthew 25 finds the unprofitable servant and goats are both rejected, and those are the ones not doing works. Everyone else who does works is favored by Christ. Funny how Paul gets it so darn backwards and wrong. Yet, most Christians today follow Paul more than they follow Christ their Savior. Is it any wonder that Christ in Matthew 7 warns us that broad is the way to destruction and that very few will find the gate to life? So, the popular and broad grace delusion floating around in Christianity today might be just the thing Christ is trying to warn us about, helping us to understand that the true path to salvation is not this popular reworked idea of grace Paul cleverly peddled to the gullible masses. Because if grace is a free gift as paul claims, then the unprofitable servant and the goats of Matthew 25 should have pitched a fit and made a stink about that in the last two parables Christ gave on the subject. Clearly, God was upset when the unprofitable servant and the goats did no works. Casting the goats into the firey furnace prepared for Satan and his angels certainly makes their failure to do the works pointed out a testament to how Christ is saying our works are critical to our salvation whether Paul wanted to believe that truth or not. So, you need to decide if you follow Paul or if you follow Christ, because Christ warns us again that a man cannot serve two masters, and many Christians are in fact trying to serve two masters, but they over time love Paul and learn to hate Christ in the process, rejecting most of what Christ teaches as they follow Paul out from under the law into a lawless state of grace in Romans 6:14. But, there is a deeper issue we need to consider here. God warns us of those who have a heart like an adamant stone in Zechariah 7. These are people who will not hear God’s law, nor the words God sent by the Spirit through his servants the prophets. It’s the same rebellion God mentions in Isaiah 30, when he asks Isaiah to write it in a book how rebellius his people are, not hearing his law and wanting the prophets to speak lies and smooth things, as the people seek for the Most High to cease from before them. God knows intimately what man’s stony heart is all about, and in Ezekiel 11 and 36, God is going to help his true followers get rid of their stony heart, implying that these are people who will stop rejecting the law and the prophets of God. These people will receive a new heart, but those who keep rejecting the law and prophets will not receive a new heart, but will continue to follow Paul out from under the law and cement their stony heart in place. And when the curse starts to devour the earth in Isaiah 24:6, it will begin to become evident how right God was to warn us that our transgressing his law, changing his ordinance and breaking his everlasting covenant is the real cause for this outcome as the inhabitance of the earth will be burned for this. And by Isaiah 33, God warns that those who have developed good characters, however, will be able to dwell with everlasting burnings. They will not perish when the curse devours the earth like those who rejected and trampled all over God’s law.
The works spoken of in James 2: is exactly what Jesus said to the Jews, Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath? Doing a good deed on the Sabbath should never be considered as work. I was once in a situation where I had to take care of someone on the Sabbath. I donated the earnings for that day to a poor family and let God be my judge.

I agree, Rabbi Berkson makes some problematic statements, none represented in this video. To be fair, if you're not familiar with Rabbi's teachings, the video you played was an "Infocus" which is a snippet of an hour long teaching, in this case the teaching, Be Set Apart. In this particular snippet of this teaching, Rabbi briefly addresses the topic of Grace. He doesn't go into proper detail here because he has already laid out a teaching which is a 14 hour study, line by line, verse by verse on what the Scripture says about Grace. Rabbi's expectation as he teaches is that when he references a topic that he's already covered, you're better to go back to that teaching to understand the concept. The way you interpret Romans 6:23 contradicts all prior verses of the chapter. The Greek word for gift is charisma, which is grace, charis, with ma tacked on the end, which recharacterizes the word as being the result of grace. Go back to verse 22, the fruit unto holiness (grace) and the end (result), everlasting life. You are so intrenched in Evangelical theology that you cannot see it. The way grace is defined in Evangelical theology is situational. Grace is more than a word, it is an entity which shows up in many situations. If you can't see grace as an object, your definition will fall short. Consider the dollar. Is it a piece of paper with George's picture? Is it the units of an amount in your bank account? Is it the amount you paid for you car? If you define it situationally, you are not wrong, but you mischaracterize it, then defend it to the death with evidence (the dollar bill you hod in your hand). The church is the bride of Christ, he is our husband, together we have children (Isaiah 54:1,5). As the Father loved Jesus (he conceived him by the Holy Spirit), so has he loved us (we are born again by the Holy Spirit). As he has loved us (we are born again), we are to love one another (we, as the bride of Christ, give birth to others by the Holy Spirit). This love that flows from the Father to the Son to us to one another, is by the Holy Spirit, and this love is grace, God's divine love. It is by this love that we bear fruit. When we bear fruit in this way, do you consider this our works? It is the righteousness of the law fulfilled in you. This is where you err, when you consider the work done in us as being done by us; you confuse our works with the works of the Spirit in us. This adds a new dimension to the discussion. There is a third option that you have neglected to consider. The ministry of life is the law of the Spirit of life. What I am sharing is considered as fringe theology. It is easy to be persuaded by you, after all, you are confident, sure of yourself. But you are preaching another (heteros - different) gospel, that is not another (allow - similar) Galatians 1:6,7. I take you at your word, that you seek the truth. But from your usage of the word, truth, I doubt that you have considered the Biblical meaning of the word. I feel you I have a small dissertation with time stamps i'm waiting on a reply for. People get so stuck on Paul letter to their own destruction like Peter warned. If He'd just add another witness like it is commanded in Deuteronomy and even by Paul in 1 Corinthians it would help correct this misunderstanding of scripture.

*Paul might think so as he argues that we are saved by grace and not of works in Ephesians 2:8-9. Yet, Christ comes back to these same Ephesians in Revelation 2 and warns them if they don’t “Repent and DO THE FIRST WORKS” that he will remove their candlestick, only granting right to the tree of life to those who overcome in this message. Why didn’t Christ rather say, “Look, don’t bother, just believe grace will save you?” like Paul was peddling? Do you not find it interesting that all you can imagine to offer to God is your sins, not your love or your obedience or your loyalty in what you said above??? Let me explain why you find yourself in this unfortunate situation.
Paul in Acts 23:6 admits he is still very much a Pharisee, bringing the entire body of his doctrine under Christ’s warning in Matthew 16 to beware the doctrine of the Pharisees: a warning most Christians ignore to their own detriment. Christ also warns us that Pharisees like Paul make their converts twice the child of hell than themselves in Matthew 23:15. And this Pharisee Paul, after warning us in 2Cor 11 to not marvel that Satan’s ministers are transformed into ministers of righteousness in the very next chapter in 2Cor 12:7 admits to having a “messenger of Satan”. You would think more Christians would sit up and take notice of that before buying into Paul’s ideas of grace. Because Christ also warns us that Pharisees like Paul are of their father the devil in John 8:44, which leaves me wondering how a Pharisee like Paul with his messenger of Satan in 2Cor 12:7 is going to pass Christ’s qualifications of having righteousness greater than that of a Scribe and Pharisee which is required in order to enter the kingdom of God in Matthew 5:20-especially when Christ in Matthew 23:13 is rebuking the Scribes and Pharisees like Paul for not entering his kingdom and not suffering others to enter in???
The moment Paul tried to lure people out from under God’s law to be under his grace alternative instead in Romans 6:14, Paul brought himself under the warning of God in Isaiah 8:20 where God says that anyone like Paul speaking not according to the law and testimony has no light in them. Because God binds up the testimony and seals his law among his disciples in Isaiah 8:16. So, Paul is trying to rob people of becoming God’s disciples by teaching them to join him in rejecting the very seal of God. This idea of binding up the testimony and being sealed by the law comes from Deuteronomy 6 where God urges people to bind the law to their right hand and forehead. This is to protect us from the problem arising in Revelation 14 under the Third Angel’s Message where people take instead the mark of the beast in their right hand and forehead. The question is which choice will we ultimately make here? Will we come under the protection of God’s law or will we abandon God’s law for the mark of the beast???

Grace as Jason staples has shown in greek is a term for reciprocation meaning yiu have now been given the spirit so you can be obedient and do the works that lead to a good judgement. "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Salvation is something you work towards as Paul states you don't already have it as him and jesus make clear the final judgment will be based on works.
An example from my own life... I was addicted to porn. It took me a while to realize that I CAN'T free myself of the addiction. It was getting somewhat better due to my own attempts, but when the Holy Spirit set me free from it, there was NO QUESTION that I would be forever 100% free from it. The deliverance came over me in an instant. Not that I may never stumble ever again, but that's not even my focus or worry anymore, and the sin no longer has dominion over me. I'm not a slave to it anymore. It's been about 2 years now, and I haven't gone back to porn, PRAISE JESUS! It's a deliverance that can only come from God. And it only comes when we REPENT from our self righteous deeds and throw ourselves at His mercy that we don't deserve and that we'll never deserve. And He will cleanse us of our sin. The good "works" of a Christian truly do come from a changed heart. We are new creations!!!

If I understand you correctly, you don't seem to believe the Words that came out of the mouth of Yeshua (Jesus) Yeshua said He didn't come to do away with the Law, is the true or false? In fact, after that in Matthew 5:19 He says "Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Thanks so much for these studies. I was also a sabbath keeper, when I first heard about sabbath and other things I was excited to do all that I thought God wanted from me and I remember feeling prideful because I was in the true church. As time passed my questions and doubts grew. I battled with guilt for years, afraid that I was doing the wrong thing by leaving this denomination and losing my salvation, I’m so grateful the Lord has revealed His truth.
Keeping the Sabbath holy is not something that makes us better than others. Even gentiles should honour the Sabbath but it’s not a law for them. There is no punishment for not keeping it but a reward if they do. Any church that threatens with hellfire is just a cult. God is a righteous judge, not a monster who enjoys torturing people for all eternity, no matter how evil they were. People are judged according to what they have done, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Eternal punishment is no just punishment for something you did for a period of time. The church has made God into a monster who you must love or else you go to hell. Thats not God at all. God loves you, even if you sin, and rejoices when you repent.

Maybe, but unfortunately we don’t have the letters of the other side. The Roman church was very good to destroy all evidence that contradicted their theology and only kept what agreed with them. Those who didn’t go along with their doctrines were expelled and called heretics. Later they burned them on the stake. That’s how the “orthodox” doctrines survived and were made popular.
When I found out that the word Believe means "rest in", that changed everything! I literally thought the word Believe was an action word because of legalistic preachers!
Recommend you look up Strong's greek 4100, it is the word Pisteuo that is often translated believe. I think you will find out that whoever told you that believe means to rest in was't being honest.
That’s interesting but how did you find this out? To me believe is an action word because it means to trust God and do what he tells you to do. When you trust someone you just do what they tell you without wanting to know the exact reason why you should do something. So I guess in a way we’re ‘resting in’ them by just trusting them that everything will be ok.

Works (I believe) does not mean the fallowing of the 613 laws. It means the expressing the LOVE of God and each other that Christ taught through His life. On these hang all the laws and prophets. These are the works of faith.
If one believes the law Giver (Jesus) they will do what He says. There is about 170 of those laws that apply to most men.

@@marksr49341 yes, they are laws given to the nation of Israel. That’s why in the book of Acts at the Jerusalem council it was decided that believers in Jesus who are gentiles don’t need to be circumcised but are only bound by the Noahide laws that are given for all mankind.
Yet Christians often take it further than that even trying to convince Jews in Israel that the law has been abolished. Yet even in the gospels of the New Testament Jesus made it very clear that he did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. Fulfilling the law was an obligation for all the Jews, it means to fully follow all commandments. It doesn’t mean to abolish it.
In the book of Acts Paul goes out of his way to prove that he is not teaching apostasy from the law of Moses by undergoing a purification ritual together with other men which includes an animal sacrifice. He clearly still followed all the required Jewish laws which makes us question, is this the same Paul who wrote the letters saying the law has been abolished. Something clearly doesn’t add up here unless Paul was a deceiver who only pretended to keep the law of Moses.

I didn't see this coming. After 18 years of marriage my husband has become torah observant and is upset that I do not submit to his authority in this belief. I am numb after so many conversations. I love my husband but my soul is not comfortable at all with following all the 613 laws. I feel condemned daily by my spouse. Lord open the eyes of those falling for this heresy and show them grace and truth, bring peace to my soul as I try to be submissive.

When I hear such claims (that salvation = grace + works), I immediately want to ask several questions:
1) How many works, and which ones, do I have to do to earn my salvation? Please give me a list of them and the criteria for measuring them from the Bible. The only unambiguous and terrifying criterion I found is "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
2) What about a single failure/sin in my life, even after repentance? Does it count somehow, curse me, or what? What will be the mathematical formula of my accordance on the scales of the highest court in the end?
3) What works were done by the thief on the cross to whom Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise"? Are these the same amount and type of works that should be done according to the answer to the first question? If yes, I can tell the list of works is quite short 😅. If no, it means Jesus lied to this man.
1) Which ones? Read the front of the book.. The way Jesus/Apostles/Paul tells others to do.
2) Reflect and read Paul's letters to the Ephesians and Galatians, moreover 1 John and James
3) If he was an Israelite is it possible he had a repentant heart - a contrite heart? He may have understood breaking the law and justice is how the world works. [all we can do is speculate]

It's not difficult. When you sin, just repent. If you stole, do restitution as much as you can. If you sinned against your brother, go to him and apologise. The sinner on the cross was justified because he sincerely repented and it was demonstrated by him defending Jesus, which is a good work.
Salvation is not a one time done deal thing.
Faith will make you do works. They go hand in hand. Grace comes first.

The reality is that most Christians don't fact check the doctrines taught in their churches. Pastors don't usually encourage to fact check. Sometimes they might say to check your bible but I never heard of any pastor who tells their congregation to learn Hebrew or consult Rabbis who know Hebrew so they can really fact-check because they know that once you do this you will become a problem for them.

I agree with the first half of your statement that 'true faith naturally produces good works', however the second part is questionable. As James in his letter pointed out, Rahab, a prostitute, was saved by what she did. She wasn't a Israelite but she recognised that He had given the Israelites the land because of the stories she heard about the Exodus. Now she was not the only one who heard the stories because she said that they all heard about these stories and were terrified. What distinguished her from the others was that she had the opportunity to do a good work for the Israelites and did it. Her good works together with the opportunity given produced saving grace.
Jesus also said that they make the Word of God to no effect, teaching their traditions of men. He also said if we break one of the least of the commandment, we will be least in the Kingdom.

However, we need to differentiate between Jews and Gentiles. The law applies to all men but not every law applies to every person. There are laws that only apply to priests, others only apply to Jews and still others that only apply to Gentiles, also called strangers. Noah was no Jew, nor was Abraham. They are said to have kept all of God’s laws and statutes. The law or Torah therefore existed even before Moses gave the law to the people of Israel.

Unfortunately this happened then and we still suffer the consequences of it. It's very difficult today to distinguish between truth and error because for nearly two thousand years the church participated in the destruction of all that which contradicted the orthodox faith, including exiling bishops, burning their writings and even using torture and burning them on the stake with the justification that they only were trying to save their souls from hell. I teach and believe that obedience is God’s “love language.” Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). And I'm sure you would agree that not every command that God has given applies to every person at all times. Some of His commands only apply to certain people (i.e., men, women, parents, Levitical priests) or for certain times (i.e., building an ark, gathering manna, while in exile). And I'm sure you would also agree that we are each only expected to keep the commands of God that apply to us. The NT teaches that the ceremonial commands given under the Law of the Sinai Covenant do not apply to Christians today. (ex. Repeated blood sacrifices for sin are no longer required (Heb 10:18).) We still serve God and obey His commands, “But now we are released from the law, having died with Christ to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code” (Rom 7:6).

The very definition of grace shows that salvation is free in and of itself. Grace translates to the Greek word CHARIS which means "unmeritted favor." This is why Paul says in ephesians "for by grace you have been saved (past tense) through faith and NOT OF YOURSELVES, it is a gift of God. Not of works so that no one may boast." This is also why in John's gospel (the one actually written to save the lost; see john 21:30-31) he gives the sole criteria to be saved which is to believe. This is also why Paul tells the church of Rome the difference between grace and works in Romans 11:7 "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." Believe the gospel performed on your behalf (the death, burial and resurrection) and recieve eternal life today. Jesus died to pay the penalty for your sin which is death. If he already payed your debt then there is only one place to go.
The danger in these types of teachings that the Rabbi makes is that they appeal to our nature of getting things done and the truth of relying in the Holy Spirit is completely foreign to humanity

@@simonskinner1450 I wouldn't be so sure. In James 4 he references the law in the context of not judging your brother, that if you judge the law you are not a doer of the law, but a judge. He also references the prophets (which includes Moses) as an example to follow (Jam 5:10).

Because you don't know the law, You're left in a dark about what's going on. Please read numbers 6. Paul is performing what is done starting at verse 13. They have to make a sacrifice prior to shaving their head.

I enjoy your videos. And I have to admit that I was decieved into the Hebrew Roots doctrine nearly 10 years ago. I no longer share these viewpoints as of around two years ago.
Since well before I entered the doctrine of Hebrew Roots/Messianics congregations I have felt a calling on my life to teach and share the message of truth. And in late 2018, my family and I relocated to Cleveland, TN under the impression (that he gives) that this man would train me to become the teacher that I "thought" I needed to be. We spent one year with this congregation, and it was one of the worst years of my family's journey to grow closer to God. I don't like to degrade people, nor personally attack anyone, so I will not be saying too much more about his character or his personal issues. But I can and will say that he teaches so many things that are contrary to the way Yeshua would have us to live our lives and treat others.
While I take issue with some of the things that you teach as well, I highly respect your approach and humility. I also appreciate the fact that you leave your comment section open for opposing views that we may (as you called it) be bereans. I too welcome all opposing doctrine as thisvis the only way we truly get to the bottom of what the truth really is.
Now, I do teach others about the word of God, but I am not yet a TH-cam video maker, "so to speak" that I can make rebuttal videos against any doctrines I encounter.
But maybe one day I will be able to send you a link to my rebuttal video to your teachings that we may have a meaningful discussion. 🙂

What happens to a person who believes in Christ and doesn't obey Christ? According to James he will not be saved for he is just like a demon. To be obedient to Christ YOU have to do something. The fact is you don't 'work' for salvation but you do work for your faith. You can't do 'nothing' and be obedient to Christ and receive the free gift of salvation. James is talking to already saved Christians about the faith of the believers to be useful to others. Help the less fortunate etc. It's not about salvation.

My family was torn apart by this man's teaching. I fought with all my heart to save my wife and children from this teaching. In the end a 23 year marriage was destroyed and my children were taken away from me. There are many broken families in this congregation. The teaching is that you can get a divorce for any reason. Most of the error of you arguments is because you stick almost exclusively Paul. As Peter said many people would twist Paul's letters to their own destruction (II Peter 3:16). This why all but one scripture is from Paul as evidence though Paul and the bible say that the knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation (II Peter 1:20) so you should at least have another writer cosign as said in scripture in Deuteronomy 19:15 which is echoed by Paul in 2 Corinthians 13:1

It's funny, DeVeau, because when my Hebrew Roots friends want to challenge my interpretation of Paul, what would you guess is the number one thing they say? They'll point me to 2 Peter 3:16, which says that Paul's letters contain some things that are hard to understand which ignorant and unstable people distort. So what exactly is Peter talking about when he says that "some things" are hard to understand? What "things" is he talking about? Well, if we read the whole chapter, we find that Peter is talking about the delay of Christ's return. That's the issue that's hard to understand! He says humans are impatient and it's hard to know why Jesus is so slow in returning, but we need to stay strong and be ready. Read the chapter for yourself. So we can't use this verse as a catch-all to describe anything in Paul's letters that we think someone else doesn't understand. Doing that is not only intellectually dishonest, it's weaponizing scripture to try to win an argument, and, respectfully, that's just wrong.

But the reason why you're being defensive on this is because your whole ideology rests on Paul, knowing that the Bersia Jews wouldn't be searching Paul's letters as scripture..
With that said, I have presented a plethora scriptures to support the case that you are that you happen to address. Because even without Paul Christ to be found within the scripture, and the idea of work and faith pair is also common in scripture. That is the discussion at hand if you'd like to respond.
This is not to weaponize but to rightly divide. Again, just like prophecy, the Bible is not up to a private interpretation. All matter should be established by two or three witnesses. So someone else in the Bible should be agreeing with Paul or preaching a similar message.

The Laws of the OC that must be performed are the Ten Commandments - Deuteronomy 4:13.

The thing is, trusting in Jesus for salvation based on the mercy and grace of Yahweh alone fits the model already well established in the history of Israel. Over and over and over again we see how obedience to the voice of God alone leads to salvation and deliverance. They’re no better than Moses who struck the rock for water when God didn’t tell him to.
I can see where the confusion comes from. The majority of Christianity doesn't understand the Torah and therefore doesn't really know who God is. Therefore there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. Yes, but when are you in Christ? When you obey His commandments. If you say you know Jesus, but don't obey Him we are liars (1 John 2:4). What you do definitely matters where you end up in the Kingdom (Matthew 5:18-19) and not following His commandments will not even get you in the Kingdom (Matthew 7:21). Following commandments are not getting you salvation, but it will show if you truly know Jesus. It's like getting a passport for a country you want to live in, but not wanting to follow the rules of the country. The death of Jesus gets us a passage into the Kingdom, but we should learn the rules of the Kingdom (the Torah + prophets). If we don't want to follow the rules of the Kingdom, why we want to earn the passage anyway? God asked us to be holy, for He is holy. Do we fail? Yes. Should we therefore stop trying? No! Is the rabbi wrong about teaching that salvation is merited? Yes, but I also understand what he is trying to say. The Pharisees were keeping the law to earn their salvation. Salvation can only come through faith and faith will bring you to keep the law out of gratitude. The law is the goal to get you to understand you need Jesus, when you know Jesus, you want to follow His commandments. It's that simple. Grace cannot exist without the law and without the law you don't need Jesus. God or Jesus never promises us a life in heaven, but only eternal life. You either die (be destroyed) or be granted eternal life in Gods Kingdom here on earth. When you have the spirit and a new heart it will make you walk out the law (Ezekiel 11:19-21). Trying to obey God because we love Him definitely doesn't lead to death, but following the law without faith and without Jesus does. Saying we believe in Jesus while we are not following the law, makes us liars.

Grace is not just about our forgiveness of past, present and future sins (as in sinning- verb-action of iniquity. )
But grace also includes our flesh dying to sin so that sin may no longer be our master. We died with Christ! Grace not only gives us a right standing before God, but also gives us victory over sins power.

I like a lot of what Solberg does. But, he's offering a biased and incomplete doctrine here, so I call foul. Sadly, he cherry picks passages out of context. He avoids the numerous passages where the New Testament (and Jesus in specific) clearly states that obedience to Christ's commands are a required evidence of faith (Matthew 3:10, John 8:31, John 13:34, John 14:15, Luke 10:37, Romans 6:16, James 1:22 just to name a few). Think about what the Bible says of Abraham. Did God just unilaterally grant him favor and blessings? No. Abraham was found righteous BY FAITH. Oh, so God saw that Abraham had faith in his heart, and then granted him favor and preference? No. Abraham had faith and THEREFORE acted in faith and obedience, even taking his only son to the mountain for slaughter. That was the proof of Abraham's faith, and that's what James is talking about. Whenever Paul is talking about "faith not works," he's admonishing those who think that keeping Jewish law will save them. He's not referring to the command to be obedient to Christ. Solberg's way off here, and I suspect it's because he's a closet Calvinist.

Okay, so Romans 11 is introduced to argue that Paul sees works and grace as incompatible ideas. And while this is true of Paul’s view of grace, it isn’t necessarily true of how the rest of the Bible views the concept of grace. Grace is an Old Testament idea originally, long before paul started tampering with its meaning in his writings, and no one speaking of the use of grace in the Old Testament was asking people to come out from under the law to be under a lawless state of grace like Paul does in Romans 6:14. An observant Bible student would know that anyone speaking against the law and testimony and teaching spiritual anarchy like Paul does in Romans 6:14 is in direct violation of Isaiah 8:20-22 and has no light in them. God warns these people will curse both God and king and be driven into darkness. But, Christians ignore this warning and blindly follow Paul over a cliff anyway. This is concerning, because Paul admits openly to having a “messenger of Satan” in 2Corrinthians 12:7, after warning us in his previous chapter of 2Corrinthians 11 that Satan’s ministers are transformed into ministers of righteousness. This immediately raises the question of whether or not Paul was one of those transformed individuals parading around as a Christian, seeing he admits to having a “messenger of Satan”. And when God in 2Cor 12:7-10 does not remove Paul’s messenger of Satan, Paul makes up a convenient excuse that God’s grace is sufficient for him, revealing that Paul’s idea of grace leaves him high and dry, doing nothing to meaningfully resolve the problem with his messenger of Satan. Could that be God trying to tell us something serious about Paul that Christians are utterly ignoring? But, the greater problem with Paul’s excuse is that Paul claims to be an apostle. And in Luke 9:1, Christ gave all his true apostles power over ALL DEVILS, not merely a few. So, how is it that a man claiming to be an apostle like Paul can’t get rid of a “messenger of Satan” in 2Cor 12:7 if he is supposed to be an apostle??? Let me guess, Paul is the one apostle Christ didn’t give that power over all devils too? I mean, if we are truly going to test ideas according to the Scriptures, and not conveniently skirt around the dirty laundry here, we need to deal with the problem of Paul far more directly than Christians pretend to do when push comes to shove. Because Paul also blurts out in Acts 23:6 that he is still a Pharisee. Not only does this reveal that Paul is calling his conversion away from Phariseeism to become a follower of Christ into serious question, it also brings Paul under the scrutiny of Christ’s own warning in Matthew 16 to beware the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees; thus, calling the entire body of Paul’s doctrine into question: being another warning Christians like to conveniently ignore. Furthermore, Christ warns in Matthew 23:15 that Pharisees like Paul will make their procelites twice the child of hell than themselves and in John 8:44 that Pharisees like Paul are of their father the devil; thus, explaining why Paul would have a “messenger of Satan” as he openly admits in 2Cor 12:7. Not that Christians are paying attention. And if Matthew 5:20 has Christ arguing that unless our righteousness is greater than the Scribes and Pharisees we will in no wise enter the kingdom of God, we must then ask How Paul plans to get himself and his “messenger of Satan” in 2Cor 12:7 into the kingdom of God??? So, we might want to resolve some of these primary problems with Paul, before using Paul as an authority to call others into question. Because to fail to do so would be hipocrisy of the highest order-especially in light of the fact that in Deuteronomy 13 God makes it exceedingly clear that he will send in false prophets and such just to test to see if we love him or if we will follow after false teachers away from God. And Paul’s calling us out from under God’s law is not just provoking God to conclude in Isaiah 8:20 that there is no light in Paul, it is also revealing that Paul is opposing Isaiah 8:16 where God says to bind up the testimony and seal the law among my disciples. If you are a disciple of God, why would you follow Paul out from under the protection of the seal of God which is his law, to be under Paul’s lawless alternative of grace? The binding of the law to the right hand and forehead is a practice that is discussed in Deuteronomy 6, and the alternative in Revelation 14 is to receive the mark of the beast in one’s right hand and forehead instead. So, was Paul setting up millions of Christians to flee from the protection of God’s seal to be partakers of the mark of the beast? This might help to explain in greater detail why God says that those like Paul who speak against the law and testimony have NO LIGHT IN THEM in Isaiah 8:20. But, notice, those who get the victory and stand on the sea of glass do not sing the song of Paul and the Lamb, but the song of Moses and the lamb instead: because Moses and Christ are the two prophets of Deuteronomy 18. Paul is a liar, a fraud, a Pharisee with a messenger of Satan who tried to create a wedge between God’s law and the gospel of Christ to derail Christianity. It’s time Christians woke up to this reality already.
Of course, if you go to Romans 4 and pull up Paul’s example of Abraham, you must also compare it to James 2:20-24, because James disagrees with Paul and insists Abraham was justified by works. James argues that it is works that makes our faith perfect, further holding to his former position in verse 17 that faith without works is dead being alone. So, when Paul pushes his idea of grace in Romans 4:1-4, and pushes justification by faith without works in verse 5, Paul comes under the scrutiny of James 2:17 which argues that Paul is teaching a doctrine of “dead faith”, seeing James holds that faith without works is dead, BEING ALONE, not a doctrine of living faith. By verse 18, James continues to test Paul’s idea of dead faith asking him to show he even has faith without his works. Just saying Paul has faith without works is not proof he has faith at all. By verse 19, James is arguing that even the devils believe, likely aware that Paul admits in 2Cor 12:7 to having a “messenger of Satan”; thus, helping to expose that Paul may not be the best source to get one’s doctrinal position on faith and grace from. And we have a pretty good idea that James 2 is a direct response to Romans 4, because these are the only two chapters in the New Testament which discuss this idea of imputing righteousness. So, this now leaves us with the question of are we really saved by dead, imperfect faith in Paul’s doctrine of salvation, or are we rather better off holding to a doctrine of living faith which is perfected by our works as James 2 teaches instead?

I don't push people to be torah observant, but I try my hardest to observe the commands of my father. Just as Messiah did. I WORK at it (where as it was easy for him, I am speculating). Messiah was the most precious gift of all time. When I fail misrably and fall short, the almightys gift of grace (through the sacrifice of his son) saves me.

My brother you have it all wrong. We are not saved by works of the law but by the works of faith. Mt.5:28-29; Rev 22:12. Works of the law (legalism) are futile attempts by the flesh to manifest deeds in obedience to the law. Works of faith are good deeds resulting from obedience to the good law by the Spirit. The rabbi is closer to the truth than you are. Yours is lawlessness which means there is no sin because there is no law!! Faith leads to grace Which then empowers us to obey God by His law, a transcript of His character and will. Rom.4:16; 8:1-7; Act 5:32. Saints are so because they keep law by the power of grace from the faith of Jesus. Rev.14:12. My brother, unless you're doing it deliberately, l pray that you get the following facts. 1. Sin is doing evil works through transgression of law 1Jn 3:4; 1Sam.15:24. 2. Obedience to God is foundation of worship. ''Trust And Obey, For there is no other way.... We obey God by keeping his commandments. Jn.15:10: 14:15. 3.Faith does not replace obedience to law.Rom.3:31. Faith is just but a means to an end, obedience by Spirit of grace to achieve salvation. My.19:17; Heb.5:9; Rom.8:3-4. 4. Just like the angels, unfallen Adam didn't need grace to keep law because he was also ''not under the law '' Ps.103:19-20. By the Spirit we are no longer under the law and we can keep the law because we are then as spiritual as the law. Gal 5:18. The opposite of to be under the law in Paul's language (Rome.6:14; Gal 4:4) is to be equal to or a match for the law. But we are not above the law just because there is empowering grace. Rom.6:15.
5. The ten moral commandments together constitute a transcript of the perfect character and will of God. To acquire that character we need to continually obey and meditate upon His law. 2Cor.3:8. But in our fallen flesh we can't keep it. Rom.7:14; 8:7. Christ came to provide us with the power of grace (gospel. Rome.1:16) so that we may once again regain the heavenly character just like the obedient angels whom we shall co-exist with. Moral commandments is everything to do with God's character. Works of faith is what we need because the Spirit enables us to manifest pleasing deeds of obedience. Gal.5:22-23. Works of the law is vanity because flesh can only manifest works of disobedience to God. Gal 5:19-21.
Now, Paul in Romans 3 and 5 is certainly claiming that grace is a “free gift”. But, Christ never teaches that grace is a “free gift”. Just as Christ never teaches this idea of man being “saved by grace” either. We first see this idea spoken of by Peter in Acts 15, but only after Peter has been influenced by that old Pharisee Paul during the debates which took place at the first church council. And Paul’s arguing that we are saved by grace in Ephesians 2:8-9 is problematic, because Christ comes back to John in Revelation 2, having John write to the same church of Ephesus to repent and DO THE FIRST WORKS, the exact opposite of Paul’s idea of being saved by grace and “NOT OF WORKS” in Ephesians 2:8-9. Christ warns that if they do not do this, he will remove their candlestick, and only those who overcome in the church of Ephesus Christ offers the tree of life, suggesting that salvation depends heavily on works. As for wages, Christ says he will pay a penny to those who come and work for him in one of his parables. The penny he is obviously talking about is eternal life, because it is the same penny that he gives all his workers in the parable. So, while it might offend Paul that people work to earn their salvation, that is not logically equivalent to it offending God. And if Christ didn’t believe works save us, why did Christ spare the sheep for the works they did, but destroyed the goats for the same list of works they failed to do in the parable of the sheep and goats in Matthew 25? Clearly, the goats should have responded to Christ and said, “But, Paul said we don’t have to do works to earn our salvation”. So, Christ introduced parables which argues for the opposite of what Paul is teaching. Again, this raises the question, should we be following Paul who has a messenger of Satan in 2Cor 12:7 and who blurts out he is still a Pharisee in Acts 23:6, or should we be more careful and realize Paul infiltrated Christ’s movement conveniently after Christ’s ascention, and we need to beware his doctrine as Christ warns us in Matthew 16 concerning Pharisees like Paul? As for the Abraham issue from Genesis, many argue that it is actually Abraham believing God and counting God as being righteous for the promise God makes with Abraham, not Abraham being counted righteous for simply believing God’s promise. So, Paul’s view depends on how one interprets the engagement between God and Abraham. Seeing that James counter’s Paul’s view and argues that Abraham is justified by works in James 2:20-24, it becomes evident that James wasn’t exactly buying into Paul’s interpretation of the Abraham issue. And just because Paul worries that a person might boast of their works, Paul does nothing to guarantee that they will necessarily boast, so even that argument from Paul is weak and mostly irrelevant to the fact of whether or not God views their works as relevant to their salvation. Paul is not the judge, so his word would not be even remotely final on such a matter. And notice, the sheep in the parable of the sheep and goats Christ saves according to the works Christ points out, he doesn’t portray those sheep as boasting at all. So, Paul is easily refuted in this line of reasoning from Christ’s own teachings. In fact, the last two parables of Matthew 25 finds the unprofitable servant and goats are both rejected, and those are the ones not doing works. Everyone else who does works is favored by Christ. Funny how Paul gets it so darn backwards and wrong. Yet, most Christians today follow Paul more than they follow Christ their Savior. Is it any wonder that Christ in Matthew 7 warns us that broad is the way to destruction and that very few will find the gate to life? So, the popular and broad grace delusion floating around in Christianity today might be just the thing Christ is trying to warn us about, helping us to understand that the true path to salvation is not this popular reworked idea of grace Paul cleverly peddled to the gullible masses. Because if grace is a free gift as paul claims, then the unprofitable servant and the goats of Matthew 25 should have pitched a fit and made a stink about that in the last two parables Christ gave on the subject. Clearly, God was upset when the unprofitable servant and the goats did no works. Casting the goats into the firey furnace prepared for Satan and his angels certainly makes their failure to do the works pointed out a testament to how Christ is saying our works are critical to our salvation whether Paul wanted to believe that truth or not. So, you need to decide if you follow Paul or if you follow Christ, because Christ warns us again that a man cannot serve two masters, and many Christians are in fact trying to serve two masters, but they over time love Paul and learn to hate Christ in the process, rejecting most of what Christ teaches as they follow Paul out from under the law into a lawless state of grace in Romans 6:14.
But, there is a deeper issue we need to consider here. God warns us of those who have a heart like an adamant stone in Zechariah 7. These are people who will not hear God’s law, nor the words God sent by the Spirit through his servants the prophets. It’s the same rebellion God mentions in Isaiah 30, when he asks Isaiah to write it in a book how rebellius his people are, not hearing his law and wanting the prophets to speak lies and smooth things, as the people seek for the Most High to cease from before them. God knows intimately what man’s stony heart is all about, and in Ezekiel 11 and 36, God is going to help his true followers get rid of their stony heart, implying that these are people who will stop rejecting the law and the prophets of God. These people will receive a new heart, but those who keep rejecting the law and prophets will not receive a new heart, but will continue to follow Paul out from under the law and cement their stony heart in place. And when the curse starts to devour the earth in Isaiah 24:6, it will begin to become evident how right God was to warn us that our transgressing his law, changing his ordinance and breaking his everlasting covenant is the real cause for this outcome as the inhabitance of the earth will be burned for this. And by Isaiah 33, God warns that those who have developed good characters, however, will be able to dwell with everlasting burnings. They will not perish when the curse devours the earth like those who rejected and trampled all over God’s law.

The works spoken of in James 2: is exactly what Jesus said to the Jews, Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath? Doing a good deed on the Sabbath should never be considered as work. I was once in a situation where I had to take care of someone on the Sabbath. I donated the earnings for that day to a poor family and let God be my judge.

Now, I was raised in Christianity, and also used to attend MTOI. I agree, Rabbi Berkson makes some problematic statements, none represented in this video.
To be fair, if you're not familiar with Rabbi's teachings, the video you played was an "Infocus" which is a snippet of an hour long teaching, in this case the teaching, Be Set Apart. In this particular snippet of this teaching, Rabbi briefly addresses the topic of Grace. He doesn't go into proper detail here because he has already laid out a teaching which is a 14 hour study, line by line, verse by verse on what the Scripture says about Grace. Rabbi's expectation as he teaches is that when he references a topic that he's already covered, you're better to go back to that teaching to understand the concept.
Rather than addressing a two minute sound bite. I'd be interested to hear the conclusion you come to after following Rabbi line by line through Scripture. Seriously.

The rabi's doctrines lines up-with the front of the bible. Your doctrines would give a failing grade to Paul if it was taken through the Deuteronomy 13 test
The way you interpret Romans 6:23 contradicts all prior verses of the chapter. The Greek word for gift is charisma, which is grace, charis, with ma tacked on the end, which recharacterizes the word as being the result of grace. Go back to verse 22, the fruit unto holiness (grace) and the end (result), everlasting life.
You are so intrenched in Evangelical theology that you cannot see it.
The way grace is defined in Evangelical theology is situational. Grace is more than a word, it is an entity which shows up in many situations. If you can't see grace as an object, your definition will fall short. Consider the dollar. Is it a piece of paper with George's picture? Is it the units of an amount in your bank account? Is it the amount you paid for you car? If you define it situationally, you are not wrong, but you mischaracterize it, then defend it to the death with evidence (the dollar bill you hod in your hand).
The church is the bride of Christ, he is our husband, together we have children (Isaiah 54:1,5). As the Father loved Jesus (he conceived him by the Holy Spirit), so has he loved us (we are born again by the Holy Spirit). As he has loved us (we are born again), we are to love one another (we, as the bride of Christ, give birth to others by the Holy Spirit). This love that flows from the Father to the Son to us to one another, is by the Holy Spirit, and this love is grace, God's divine love. It is by this love that we bear fruit. When we bear fruit in this way, do you consider this our works? It is the righteousness of the law fulfilled in you.
This is where you err, when you consider the work done in us as being done by us; you confuse our works with the works of the Spirit in us. This adds a new dimension to the discussion. There is a third option that you have neglected to consider. The ministry of life is the law of the Spirit of life.
What I am sharing is considered as fringe theology. It is easy to be persuaded by you, after all, you are confident, sure of yourself. But you are preaching another (heteros - different) gospel, that is not another (allow - similar) Galatians 1:6,7.

I feel you I have a small dissertation with time stamps i'm waiting on a reply for. People get so stuck on Paul letter to their own destruction like Peter warned. If He'd just add another witness like it is commanded in Deuteronomy and even by Paul in 1 Corinthians it would help correct this misunderstanding of scripture.
