I just want to say that by watching your videos I've learned twice as much in 2 weeks as I did after a year and a half of guitar lessons. You explain things very clearly and make it easy to understand. Thank you for the time, effort and work that you've put into your videos.
Who the fuck thumbs down this? What did you expect when you clicked on a guitar tuition video? This guy is one of the best, if not THE best online teachers out there. Get lost trolls. Way to go Marty!
No kidding. Marty is a goldmine. I say his name in my prayers at night. 😆 Going from a guy who wished he could play guitar, to somebody who can hack away at 30 or so pop songs upon request was 90% Marty's hard work and 10% me wanting a skill that's fun to have.
Can only echo what others have said. You have put into context for me what other other videos and books have failed to do re The Blues minor Pentatonic scale patterns. Can now move out of the 'first box'. Many thanks - oh, and for your free Blues Manual E-Book - a great companion to your vids. Merry Christmas and Stay safe Marty.
Love watching these older uploads Marty, your channel really is a library with a wealth of solid information, the amount of inspiration I’ve gotten over the years and things I’ve learned from yourself im really grateful for, you’ve 100% helped me become a better all round guitar player. Whenever I want to quickly learn something I always come here 1st, I don’t think there has ever been a time where you haven’t covered a song that I’ve wanted to play, would be nice to see a bit more Oasis though 🏴🇬🇧 So yeah, just wanted to say thanks Marty Your the Man 🎸👌🏼👍🏼 Oh and I love this strat, is it fiesta red? Man I need a fiesta red strat 😁
When using this pattern, if you start ascending from the 12th fret of the low E string you’re playing the root and flatted 3rd of the Em pentatonic scale. It doesn’t sound right. You can get away with it while descending because you’re repeating the descending notes that you started with on the high E string. (G & E). So, if you want to play a pure Am pentatonic scale at the 12th fret, I’d stay off the low E string.
Great videos. This is 4th pattern, yes? Also, have you done videos on tips and tricks to allow your right hand to "float" over the strings but still keep track of what strings you are picking?
Hey Marty, it would be fantastic if you could suggest some songs that would use this whole extended scale or maybe even make a lesson using a song that integrates it! great work really
Have you done a lesson on bending ? Imho bending can separate the good from the average. Seems BB King and EC use much different methods yet both get great results. Maybe a quick look how they each do it.
Ive been learning with Marty for about 4 months now and I have gotten the basic chords down and ive even learned a couple song intros like stairway to heaven and sweet home alabama(the forbidden riffs) and a few others. My dad has helped me out a bit but im still struggling. I am learning scales r n, thats why im on this video, but I still feel stuck like why am I practicing this scale, what else can I do other than the basics. It feels like so much chaos and disorder when I see others play. It sounds good but the hand work doesnt seem to have a pattern because its to complex for me. I know im thinking into the future a lot but if anybody has advice on what to do next to keep learning I would love to know
I'm a beginner, so I don't have much advice 🙄😐 except to trust the plan! I watch Marty and Justin Guitar as well, and I follow their beginner videos and trust what they teach. I try spending my practice time in thirds: - 1/3 learning and practicing Chords and Scales - 1/3 Learning Riffs to my favorite songs (because I need some encouragement, and when I play recognizable songs, it makes me feel like I'm progressing!) - 1/3 just messing around [noodling] (but using what I learned to mess around in a positive way) i.e. messing around with the E minor or the A minor scales, trying to do some solos and some 'licks' within the scales. It reinforces the scales, but it also provides some freedom so I don't get bogged down with the 'boring' stuff. Then again, I've been playing only 2 months, so what do I know?!?! 😉 Keep practicing and keep learning something new. The new stuff probably doesn't get any easier, and will feel just as clumsy and hard as the first chord and scale you learned. And like everything else in life: Enjoy the process, and when you mess up, laugh at yourself and try again🤘
I just cant reach up on the E and A string with my pinky on the 15th fret. is it okay to use the 4th finger for that, or will it make some things harder later on.?
Marty, or anyone, once your in that box or area you can also go back to the 5th fret A box area to include in improvising? Also, is this pattern the same, say playing key of E 5th fret on the A string? Sorry for the dumb questions. Beginner here.
Love your teaching. BUT, I really wish you would call out the name of the notes. When you say things like "7 of the G, 3 of the A, 5 of the D," etc., etc. It would be helpful for us that are learning all the notes up & down the throat of the guitar. Yes I said the throat. Like, I like to play with words sometimes.
If you have a traditional dreadnaught acoustic, it's incredibly difficult. I have one, and anything about the 12th fret is pretty much a "no fly" zone. There are acoustics with cutaways that let you access the upper registry, though.
Long time fan. One critique, I really wish you had been naming the notes in the scales instead of the fret number. I can see the fret very easy & its number. But, the individual note names would have been a much better learning reinforcement for us trying to learn & retain all the notes on the neck. Thanks for the lessons though.
Thanks!

stairway to heaven solo is based on this lesson. well partially

Long way to go.
I need another guitar, this one only comfortably does to fret 12. Anyways thanks Marty for the pentatonic scale exercises these should help me solo

Great lesson Marty Music! Is there a trick to finding the MAJOR pentatonic on the A string root similar to the trick on the E string root?
12 15
12 14
12 14
13 15 mis and pinky
12 15
Backerds
15 12 on low e
Ty :)
Hey Marty could u start comparing guitars like teles and les Paul's and just talk about the differences if not no big deal
yes, thanks!
I just cant reach up on the E and A string with my pinky on the 15th fret. is it okay to use the 4th finger for that, or will it make some things harder later on.?
Sir Marty probably this same one is used by the Great guitar player Toni Iomi? You may have noticed it on many of BS songs
starts at 1.20
Sorry theory noob , so if the key changes are the patterns completely different or is it just the spot on the guitar where it starts changes?
Sounds like some srv at the end there
But this pentatonic pattern is different from the ones before right?
What kinda last name is Music?
Marty, or anyone, once your in that box or area you can also go back to the 5th fret A box area to include in improvising? Also, is this pattern the same, say playing key of E 5th fret on the A string? Sorry for the dumb questions. Beginner here.
If i understand your question correctly then yes.
THATS HOW YOU LEARN BROTHER THATS NOT A STUPID ?
is the pinky mandatory?

Michael Powell shut up
Isn’t this the 4th position of the A Minor Scale??
How do I reach that far in an acoustic guitar :(
You don't
If you have a traditional dreadnaught acoustic, it's incredibly difficult. I have one, and anything about the 12th fret is pretty much a "no fly" zone. There are acoustics with cutaways that let you access the upper registry, though.
is there a part 4 link not popping up

Am I hearing the "Twilight Zone" theme on that B-sring??
Can't really do that on my acoustic xd

minor same as maior
I can barely reach them on acustic lol
Dalton Scruggs just play it in a different key by starting on a different fret.
