Marty is one of the most cheerful guitar teachers I've seen. I've spent more time listening to him than my actual physical Guitar teacher. This man has been the structural BACKBONE of my learning

The E pentatonic scale was one of the first things I learned on guitar around 2014, and I constantly saw people moving up and down the neck and wanted to learn so bad... 2 seconds of your video and it all clicked. You're the man!

Thanks for the lesson. It makes much more sense when you have the minor scale formula in front of you, using which you can write down notes of Am scale (A B C D E F G A) and then derive Am pentatonic scale using the positions 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th, which makes A C D E G. Finally download a fretboard image with marked notes and set it as your mobile wallpaper, so you know which notes youre hitting when practising with this video.

I have been following you since my guitar journey started 7 years ago with all your song lessons, I got myself to a point I don’t need the direction because I can pick it up by ear. However this stuff is where I want to go now as I feel very confident in rhythm guitar. I credit that to watching videos on guitar over and over .I just wanted to thank you for helping shaping my skill.

Marty, you have been a great help for me learning to play guitar. I saw GNR with Slash and Duff back in 2016 in Toronto and I got so inspired I bought an acoustic guitar and then an electric. I have learned lots of songs from your youtube page. I've gotten to the point where I'm playing the main riffs and basic rhythm guitar of songs like Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise City from your lessons. I'm started learning the Pentatonic Scales now so I can learn all the solos. This lesson helped me understand more theory of how it works. Thank man.

I think this is really going to help me because I've been having trouble with power chords because I'm not very good at moving side to side on the fretboard, I've gotten really good at staying in a box and moving up & down but this seems to be a good exercise for moving side to side. just memorize the scales man . get a good book that has the most popular scales mapped out. learn the natural scales minor and major. they are exactly like the pentatonic just with 7 notes instead of 5. same shapes same positions though. the only short cut is hardwork.

I have always held off on just using 2 fingers on this extended scale and I feel it has slowed me down from my speed and comfort with the fret board. Not sure were I learned it or why I felt that way but it makes so much more sense to play it with two fingers. I think Marty's goal in life is to have the entire world play better guitar. You're way ahead of yourself if you're only two days in- you should be working on chords right now and maybe small three- four note phrases just get your fingers used to fretting a note and following a pattern. Unless you're some kind of prodigy you need to slow down and learn to walk before trying to run. You will never meet a good lead guitarist who can't play rhythm exceptionally well- for a reason. It teaches how to keep time; it teaches how chords are built from scales, how progressions are built from chords, and finally- how solos are built from scales to flow over those chords melodically.
