This was an awesome series! I know the 5 shapes of the minor pentatonic scale, but learning these extensions really helped me piece it together in a way I never knew before! Thank you!!!
As a beginner, these lessons are great for so many reasons. Lessons 3 & 4 don't really work on an acoustic, so its a good job my electric guitar turns up this week. Thanks Marty!
Wow. Been playing guitar for about 19 years. Have never been able to make heads or tails of the technical stuff. You have made the basics incredibly accessible and easy to learn. 24 hours in and I am currently writing some simple solos for some of my songs. Beautiful. Thanks brother🙏 While new world!!
Marty, you have unlocked the neck for me! Obviously, I have a ton more to learn but you have absolutely taking me to the next level in my guitar playing! Much respect!
These mini series are so useful and awesome..I love when Marty reiterates the previous lessons in the series, connecting the concepts, and explains everything so that it's no overwhelming..Thanks, Marty! We speak you name!
I just watched the four instructional videos in a row. It actually makes sense. I was having a difficult time trying to play fluidly up and down the fretboard. Thanks Marty!!
I learned to play guitar watching all ur videos and i hav gotten pretty good at it..just wanted to say thanks bro...keep up the good work..love ur videos
Thank you Marty for bringing the flow of the scale up the neck. Perfect timing for me to watch this series! It helped me bring the connections together...great videos!!! :)
Really appreciate your videos, Marty! You do a great job of demystifying the dark art of lead guitar. Loving just noodling on the minor pentatonic scale all around the neck! Rock on!
Hi Marty, been screwing around with all of these patterns for a while; finally its starting to make sense. You have a great talent for bring it all together; thank you. I look forward to more of your lesson modules; their great!!
Phenomenal practice routine package brozak!! knowing exactly what to practice has improved my confidence and i 'am moving through the scales much smoother ...Thanks again Marty
on a different subject: Have been watching your videos Marty. And trying a month of your web site. The Theory section on Intervals is awesome. I have watched several times when can't play cause of building calluses.. I feel like I am getting a personal instructor to explain sources of intervals, all in down to earth people speak. Love it. Glad I tried even though not past beginner yet. Same on other lessons I tried. In case any of you wonder how good his Web site lessons are.
First learned these runs from Marty and they really are vital to learning to solo, I have proven it by experience, this is truly essential stuff. Got to get the basics down solid.
Can’t thank you enough for your help! Started watching part one yesterday and I’ve quite good at it all now,I keep practicing with a metronome to get faster but thank you sooooo much!
Marty first of all thx a lot , you're an amazing teacher !! I like the fact that you show a scale and show where you can play on the entire neck !! What's confuse me is when you talk about key and chords I'm lost! Minor , major , key of E but start with the A is so look confusion !! I can play but I wish I understand what I'm doing !!! I'll be watching all your teaching video ! Its help and its fun !! Thx again for sharing it and make it understand to comprehend!! ( sorry my English is not on point )
This is just so so useful and it really helps to open my eyes on how easily you can move around just by understanding a few principles, which you explain brilliantly, and then practicing them. Thank you so much it makes a huge difference to my enjoyment and is very motivational.
Awesome set of videos, I'm soloing up and down with D minor now! I only knew the open position 10 minutes ago. Much better than the "Stare at Scale Diagrams Til You're Brain Dead" method
At approx 1:56 of this video Marty says this is the E minor pentatonic scale. On the previous videos of this series (video 1) he said we are in the key of A (starting on the A root note) for this entire 4 part series. Is that an error or are we in the key of A using the E shape pentatonic? Love all the videos you do Marty! Big thank you from Canada
Amazing video thank you very much. But by viewing other videos, i am noticing you arr combining different positions together. You should explain to the viewers the whole different 2nd 3rd or 4th positions then how they match...not to mix up beginners 😊😊
Marty, think it's possible to show us the same things in key of E. I really enjoyed these and am practicing all weekend even to your backup soundtrack. I am having a blast! Thanks again. Really like to learn E also.
I will, but I challenge you Kevin to try and figure it out with these current lessons. For instance, this video would be played the same but the root on the A string for the key of E, is 7th fret on the A string. The shape would be the same. good luck.
Did it in E Marty. First finger on 5th fret, A string, ring finger on the 7th fret A string, First finger on the 5th fret D string, slide to the 7 fret, ring finger on the 9th fret, finger on the 7th fret G string, ring finger on the 9th fret, first finger on the 8th fret B string, slide to the 10th fret, ring finger on the 12th fret, you're first finger on the 10 the fret high E string, ring finger on the 12t fret. Hope I made sense. Sounds fight.
I started with this series. The A minor pentatonic, four series. Loved it. Then I got a scales book and noticed a lot was different and left out…am I missing something?
Is this an extension you came up with or is it a standard extension that people play and embellish on their own with bends and sustains and what ever else? I'm a beginner and trying to understand as much as possible.
Benny Lamb, this is an extension used by many players, getting to know the location of the root notes in what ever key you are playing in is a big also. The root notes help you get up & down the fretboard. Locate the root notes in the pentatonic box & key you are playing in.
Thanks again Marty! Quick question, just starting to learn scales. If I wanted to play say a C minor scale, I can just move all these shapes and patterns up 3 half steps?
i guess if new and using a non cut out acoustic Dio i pick this out with whatever fingers or skip. You always say learn it slow and right. Then speed up. I can't reach these high notes on my cheap Fender :]
I really appreciate this series but I'm left asking, "now what?" I can play these scales forwards and backwards no problem, but I can't seem to figure out how to make them musical. Even when I try to noodle and repeat with them. Could you point me to some videos I. should watch at this point?
Hi teacher, question... That 2nd position of A minor pentatonic in A string - that concept that you have used - can i apply the same concept to any other chords? Like finding the note on the A string ang do the same pattern???
This was an awesome series! I know the 5 shapes of the minor pentatonic scale, but learning these extensions really helped me piece it together in a way I never knew before! Thank you!!!
I'm so glad to hear that Dylan! Thanks so much for supporting me right here at "MartyMusci" - more NEW videos on the way!
Thanks Marty! Always something to learn here.
Dude your videos rock! I went from solely a rhythm player who was struggling to learn lead to flying around the neck now! TY!
Same here! Thanks so much!
As a beginner, these lessons are great for so many reasons. Lessons 3 & 4 don't really work on an acoustic, so its a good job my electric guitar turns up this week. Thanks Marty!
this series is amazing. i’ve just unlocked a huge amount of the fretboard. thanks marty!!!
Hi Marty, having just leaned position 1 and 4 of the minor pentatonic, this series of lessons just extended that knowledge heaps. Thanks.

I hope you’ve figure this out 7 months later, but it’s the A Minor Pentatonic, but the root note starts on the E string.
Amazing video thank you very much. But by viewing other videos, i am noticing you arr combining different positions together. You should explain to the viewers the whole different 2nd 3rd or 4th positions then how they match...not to mix up beginners 😊😊

Without Marty music I would not know shit amen lol
haha @ 10:34, nice touch there ;p
Awesome channel! Any chance you could throw a jazz lesson or two into the mix?
Focus on 7:00, 9:00 and 10:13
Did it in E Marty. Sounds fight.
sounds good Kevin!

Thanks for another Great Lesson in the Books Marty!
Marty, you move so easily around the fretboard, I find that difficult, how hard are you fretting each note, super lightly I think??
Thanks again Marty! Quick question, just starting to learn scales. If I wanted to play say a C minor scale, I can just move all these shapes and patterns up 3 half steps?
i guess if new and using a non cut out acoustic Dio i pick this out with whatever fingers or skip. You always say learn it slow and right. Then speed up. I can't reach these high notes on my cheap Fender :]

Marty why is it so important to only use your index with the sliding scales?
hey Marty could u do sucker for pain
Hi teacher, question... That 2nd position of A minor pentatonic in A string - that concept that you have used - can i apply the same concept to any other chords? Like finding the note on the A string ang do the same pattern???
