    A tip for navigating the keys in Turok: Dinosaur Hunter:
    Look at the floor in front of each portal in "the hub" and notice the symbols on each key. If a key on the grass floor isn't lit up, it means that this key hasn't been picked up from within that specific level. The keys on the portal pillar structure indicate which symbols are needed to unlock that portal. It's a subtle indicator, but it definitely helps.

    But Turok as a franchise remains a comfort series. The OG comics pre-Acclaim are just okay, but Acclaim definitely changed it for the better. The Lost Lands are conducive to everything being wacky and mixed

    I had a similar feeling the first time I played Turok 2, it was such a large "open-world" map that I got lost quickly, and eventually moved on. I think the key hunting works so well in games like Doom because they're contained within each level. Having said that, it was impressive what they were doing on consoles with FPSs. I felt Medal of Honor was also quite revolutionary for a console FPS.

    I love nightdive remasters, especially since the kex engine all of the games are ported onto supports multiple input types at the same time. It allows for a lot of customizability, and in the case for me, allows me to have gyro aiming better than most of thier implementations.

    I recently replayed Turok 1 and 2 as remasters.
    While Turok 1 has its rough edges and it's fair share of jank, it's well playable.
    Turok 2 however has some mapdesign that is so painful that not even the added mapmarkers can save it.
    That suffocates a lot of the potential the pretty ambitious game otherwise had.

It's got its own feel like a lot of old school shooters do where if someone put a part of the game into another game such as the snowboard style movement, you would instantly recognize it as Turok. I played Turok 1 for the first time with the Nightdive remaster and thoroughly enjoyed it: finished in just under 7 hours with 7 out of 10 achievements (I'm missing "kill 3 people at once with a knife," the time trial one, and finding all secrets). I fell off playing Turok 2, but I think that's mostly because I played them back-to-back and should have taken a break between them.

    Also it just didn't do much to stand out, most games played in the day were rentals, you rent this game, play it but you never get the compulsion to complete it as it seems repetitive and requires too much time-wasting with exploration and so it got returned and nobody returned to it, Turok 2 to a lesser extent thanks to it's more striking combat, music and gameplay but still most would probably rent, get stuck on the first level because they couldn't find the children and not bother buying it.
    I played the original, I downloadeds 'Turok+' from the Workshop which opens up extra options, I chose to make the enemies fast and a bit more deadly but they don't respawn, to make the level combat linear, I highly recommend that in addition to HQ texture pack.

  • @HK47_115
    @HK47_115 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Oh my god, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who got stuck on this game. I remember the last time I played this game I was replaying the original levels I played and got so lost and couldn't figure out where to go. Eventually I gave up and stopped playing that game and thought maybe one day I would come back around 2:00 when there were gameplays available on youtube, and we could actually afford internet.
    That day didn't come until mid life cycle of the 360 days, and by that time I no longer have my original Xbox or the turok game. I honestly don't even remember what happened to it. I don't know what I did with it. I don't know if we lost it when packing to move to a new home, I lost it, or broke it as a kid, one of my siblings broke it, or if we sold it off or whatever the heck. I honestly don't know what I did with that game.
    Eventually I just moved on to a couple of other games like jet set radio and true crime Streets of L.A.
    Overtime I just forgot to rock ever existed and never went back to it. Especially around the time I actually got an Xbox 360. But every now and then I think of that game and think about getting again and going back to revisit old memories and finally be in an old challenge.
    And if somebody who does the video game series on my channel checking out games I missed out on when I was young or in the prime, checking out what I missed, this will be a great game to go back to. Don't know when that's going to happen because it's far down on my list of games revisit or check out for the first time. Multiplayer, it's even further down on the list. Anything with a still alive multiplayer but barely alive, dying fast, has to be played first. At least for the Sega video game preservation and getting footage to archive.
    Edit: it has a hub world to select levels? I never figured as odd as a kid and now I feel stupid. But now this makes a question, how the fuck do I even finish the level in the first place? I mean I feel like the fact that I never figured this out as a kid goes to show they didn't explain this very well. And just for the simple fact I didn't know how to finish or exit the level shows that I would have never figured it out. How the fuck was anybody supposed to figure that out they didn't finish the level? How the fuck did you even finish the level? Where do you go?!

    I feel Turok 2 striked the perfect balance with keeping key hunting interesting with each level being completely fresh an unique and having to collect power ups to reach new areas like a Metroidvania. The only issue I had with Turok 2 on the N64 was the frame rate took a serious hit with pushing back the fog but fortunately the Night Dive remaster completely addresses that.

    I love the remake Nightdive did and this is gonna seem weird, I sort of gained an over fascination with the human enemies, like, the first few goons looked normal yet practical, like the first goons armed with knives have muscle shirts, cargo pants, metal spiked bracers..
    Also, Jarek, you said that the game does not tell you what level the missing key is in, the game actually tells you what level the key is in, you are indicated what keys are in the level, as well as piece of the chronocepter. The indication is on the ground infront of the levels.
    You complain Turok is a collectathon, if what is in turok bothers you, and since you are a dragon, not a minotaur, you are gonna hate Turok 2, which has several objectives that must be collected, the levels are huge and some are very much maze-like, one of those maze likes also is complimented with auditory poison.

    • @Tucher97
      @Tucher97 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey hey, I also like to mention that Turok 2 seem to have a problem on not knowing what the flying fuck it wants to have as an arsenal, as in, you have two different tranq guns, one becomes useless, yes tranq weapons, I think you are supposed to use them with your melee weapons, yes plural, you have 2, your talons and the warblade.
      There is a throwing disk which is like a uh extended melee, you throw it and it comes back. Also, the final boss invalidates the secret end weapon, the nuke launcher, I aint gonna hide it because A or B about things, it still fucking sucks.

    It's was a good game for its time. Memorable weapons and enemies. But my God, you can get lost in that game. Same with Turok 2. It's a Dungeon shooter pretty much.

    The Nightdive that everyone adores did a great job with Turok 1 and 2, but they completely dropped the ball with the missing multiplayer content of T3, and flat out refuse to finish the N64 Turok library with Rage Wars. If there's one TH-camr who pays attention to the games he plays and can actually take the Nightdive blinkers off for a moment to see how they shafted players... I imagine it would be Jarek. Call out Nightdive's s#:++y behaviour there, no matter how much we love the rest of their work.

      I'll be honest, saying nightdive "shafted players" for missing the multiplayer on an amazing remaster of the single player is a huge over reaction. Especially saying that's s**** behavior. Like c'mon my guy calm down a bit.

      The amount of entitlement. Turok Rage Wars was just a multiplayer experience for the N64 with no story at all. What would be the point of remastering it? Same for Turok 3's multiplayer. Why spend resources on a mode no one would even play? The single player experience is the the only thing that matters in these games, and Nightdive did a banger job on all 3.

      @@Shark_Toonz The *point*, Mr Toonz, is that it sets a dangerous precedent. If a game is to be remastered, the whole game should be remastered. If companies start picking and choosing what parts of a game they're going to include, then the quality of remasters in general is going to suffer. You don't like Unreal Tournament style gameplay? Good for you. But if we don't call out selective remastering from the get go, then who's going to help you when they come for gameplay that you DO care about?

      @@_Braised Well, Mr_Braised, what exactly is stopping you from buying or emulating the original release? It's not like the company is forcing you to buy this remaster. I don't think you understand the point of this rerelease of the game. The way I see it, this remaster is to bring back a beloved classic to an old and new audience and possibly bring life back to this franchise. I don't know what Unreal Tournament style gameplay has to do with anything, but you seem to be complaining about nothing.

    • @_Braised
      @_Braised 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Shark_Toonz nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything. Does that render product criticism invalid? Of course not. All I'm saying is if you want to bring a beloved classic back to an old and new audience, you should bring *the whole* experience back. Not play god and just 'decide' you're gonna skip some parts. If a remaster is incomplete, it should be called out as such. And I brought up Unreal Tournament's style because that's literally what Rage Wars is for Turok. Strange that you didn't get that. Or any of the other points either, come to think of it.
