Turok: Evolution was mine and my dad’s favorite game. It was his first 3D video game and my first foray into brutal dismemberment. He loved it so much would even come in when I wasn’t around and ended up beating the single player campaign multiple times. Sure the game was Acclaim’s own self-sacrificial trash fire, but it’s so incredibly special to me for all the memories with my dad.
what a shame. this game had so much cool stuff in it. one of the levels took place in a fortress on the back of a giant sauropod. the level is awfully designed and has an alarm constantly blaring, but the idea was awesome at least.
I was stuck on that level for fucking WEEKS if not at least a MONTH! Between it and the flying level where you had to shoot into this..generator thing, I was so angry. Thankfully the latter was followed by what I concider my favorite part of the game, where you have allies of your own. I uh..Tended to shoot them for the fun of it. I may have enjoyed the dismemberment a bit too much, and it might explain why things had a habit of getting a bit harder. What I DIDN'T like was the fact that the game arbitarily tok some of your weapons from you when you entered a new chapter/level! It just tok your pistol/SNiper Rifle from you after chapter 3! WHY?! And the normal bow, too, which was honestly WAY more powerful than the Tekbow!
i tried my best to like turok evolution with all due respect but i really don't deep down, as far as enemies go i saw nothing new or creative, those skinny slegs and those other THICC slegs with shotguns make up like 95% of the enemies, turok 1 and 3 had great terrifying enemies i will never forget, (not a fan of T2 at all btw) they really rushed with evolution, every weapon is so lifeless, what happend to the MAG 60? why did they replace the badass grenade launcher with a handheld stupid grenade? where is the automatic shotgun? where are the red shotgun bullets? where is an assault rifle like every previous turok had? and what's up with the stupid bird levels? one chapter would be fine but the rest of 1/3 of the game are bird levels, not to mention no real boss fights smh, just a dude with a little more health, evolution needed a hell of a lot work!

I need this, having a revamped soundtrack alongside the originals would be fantastic! As unlikely as a return from Turok probably is I can just hope someone gives the series another honest run and surprises everybody! There is soooo much potential for a great series of games here it just needs some passion, competence, and imagination to get it going again!
You can't just expect me to hear the D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die theme in the outro an NOT want to suggest that game for the next episode. It's still one of my sorest heartbreaks for an abandoned game, and I think it should get its time to shine on an episode.
I liked d4, but one of the best story interactive movies to fail was blues and bullets. I lost respect for the company cause they were asked if it was cancelled and they said no and just never came back and put out the rest the episodes. Would of been one of the best story movie games next to wolf among us.
Maybe one day you could cover the forgettable Turok 2008, it would probably be an interesting Wha Happun cause the early HD era was a nightmare for all developers.
It's a shame because that game had so much potential and so many cool weapon types. Looking back on it, it was still light years better than the next Turok game.
What a coincidence that this video would come out talking about Turok Evolution. While i'm watching a TH-cam walkthrough on well, Turok Evolution lol. From what I've watched of it, the game looks like lots of fun. I bet Nightdive Studios could bring it back and improve upon it tremendously. I just want more Turok games because of how amazing the first two game were and still are because of Nightdive. I hope they also make their own Turok games at some point because I want this franchise to comeback because it's fucking awesome!
This was actually my favorite game to play as a kid, second only to Halo 2 when it came out. I loved Turok: Evolution so much that I would make Minecraft recreations of the levels for my friends to check out back in 2012. While I haven't been able to play it in a while, I'm still trying to figure out the best way to emulate it, though I have lackluster equipment, so my luck hasn't been the best.
I'm fine with that, the problem is Bruckner did very little as a villain for Turok. He only appears three times in the game. Two of which are in cutscenes, one at the beginning when Tal-Set and he get teleported to the Shadowlands. You then see him again after freeing the Wiseman from prison and escaping. Finally you encounter him at the end of the game for a final fight which is really easy. Bruckner needed to have more of an impact but does nothing. Given he's a Confederate, it would've been awesome to have him antagonise Tal throughout the game. The only villain you hear about in Evolution is Tyrannus who was clearly meant to appear in the sequel after you defeat his army and the Juggernaut.
I thought Evolution was a MIND BLOWING, incredibly good game... I loved it! Had a blast, played it several times, had a blast every time! the only first person shooters that impressed me as much as Turok Evolution did (at the time) were TimeSplitters 2 and Future Perfect...
I was a little boy when I played Turok 2, would eventually get the first one as well. I have so many fond memories of playing it and showing it off to friends.
Suggestion for a What Happened: Xenogears. Put down those torches and pitchforks. The first disk is amazing, yes. Unfortunately, the second disk is just a step above a storyboard.
I'm pretty sure that even the biggest Xeno fans will admit that the development of the games were a trainwreck until Monolith had Nintendo as a far more forgiving publisher when it came to deadlines.
FMNFB! Man, I'm happy to see this game pop up here. The music in the background was a wonderful little nostalgia kick. This was the only Turok game I ever played, and despite being janky and shallow for sure, I still have some good memories of my multiple playthroughs. Thank you, Matt!
I thought it was a one shot game not a series. I loved it when i was a kid on my PS2. I was so fuckin scare that i never finished it and it has the best disc jacket ever to me! This raptor got me nightmares
I’ve told myself that if I ever get ahold of millions of dollars I’m gonna hire Monolith to do an Evolution remake in the style of Shadow of Mordor. Brutally killing and assassinating sleg captains and generals working up to bruckner and tyrannis. Idk, weird fantasy of mine.
I would love to see Turok make a return. It's got to be one of the most unique IPs by a longshot, from the game series to its origins in comic books. With old franchises like Doom getting brought back to the game industry forefront, why not give the Dinosaur Hunter another chance?
This was my first fps game ever and a game that my dad and I played together a lot. I was so uses to evolutions style of gameplay that looking at the previous games made me uninterested in them thinking it just wasn't as good as evolution. I had fun with the multiplayer with friends and cheat codes. I remember looking at the back of the cover and seeing an enemy I still can not tell who it is the reticle was looking at. The disc was the best looking piece of art of the Tal'set in black and white. It's really sick look it up, the one on GameCube. idk what it looks like on others but I assume it's the same. I bought the turok remasters on switch but the nostalgia evolution still bugged me. This game means deeply to me and hearing anyone talk about turok makes me smile c: Maybe one day a new turok game will come out that sees the vision of evolution. Hell a doom style revival would be sick or nightwolf having a Tal'set skin in mk11 as a reference to acclaim publishing both MK and turok will would be sick.
I never understood how this was so bad. I had played the others, they were great. There was so much to build on. So much wasted. Then we get the turok on 360 and.... we dont talk about that one. On a side note, chefs luv shack is probably one of the most fun party games you could possibly find, ever.

@@TheGamingChad. I loved Turok Evolution. By far one of my most memorable games of my childhood along with Mercenaries Playground of Destruction. Everyone hated the flying levels but the same can be said for other games where they have hated levels, Like GTA San Andreas with the train chase level. Me and my friends loved the multiplayer, I loved the Sleg Fortress level so much that Id constantly replay that, the raptors used to scare the shit out of me, I loved all the weapons and I fell inlove with the Slegs which then made me start Lizardmen in Warhammer Fantasy, and adore Lizardfolk in D&D. This game opened the world for me. I have 3 copies of this game (just incase they break and 4 copies of Mercenaries, I even recently rebought a PS2 just to have the feels). I didnt like Turok 2, and I wasnt as invested in Turok 1 as I was with Evolution. The Boss fights could of been better, like the last battle, but overall I enjoyed this game.
I remember Turok scaring my brother and I when we were younger. Especially that multiplayer map where it's like a suspended jungle fort and if you fell down raptors would hunt you lol.
What a shame, this was my whole introduction to the entire Turok franchise back in the day. Now I'll wonder how different things would have been if I'd played the others first.
The context of expectation management can make such a difference. My first Turok game ever was Evolution and I actually absolutely loved it. My main motivation was anything that has dinosaurs, I'm in for it. And so I was pretty fine with what I got. Then later came Turok 2008, and it was different but I once again jumped in without expectations and I loved it so much.
It may be because Evolution was not only my first ps2 game but also my second time ever playing a turok game (first being seed of evil) But I honestly freaking LOVED evolution, i was so mad it's not on steam i legit spent $60 on a sealed hard copy off ebay. If they remastered evolution i would throw my money at instantly.
I remember being so hyped for this. I then read a review in CUBE magazine that said it was pretty poor. Ended up getting Timesplitters 2 instead. That was the right decision.
Turok Evolution was the first Turok game that I was introduced to when i was around 11 years old on the PS2. Despite all the negative talks about the game, I had fun. Along with my brothers, we would get up early in the morning on the weekends just to play this game, blasting through every dino mutants we see. We always get so hyped to find out that all the weapons had secondary fire modes, especially the one where the weapon turns into a triple barreled gatling gun. We'll also try to one up each other during the flight levels to see who can fly through the canyons without crashing. We didn't care why the dinos can shoot back. We didn't care if the big baddie is some plain old guy. All we had was plain fun blasting through each levels and replaying them. Our little brother who was just around 7 years old would also want to join in but since it is a little too violent, we always went to the codes area and typed "zoo", which teleports us to an area where they hold all the creatures in the game like a zoo. He would love to always jump into the enclosures and look at the dinosaurs and animals up close. Luckily he didn't know how to switch the weapons or attack yet or he'll be traumatised. All in all, we had fun. This game brought back memories of staying up late and enjoying a fun day plaing video games with my brothers. Was smiling the whole time just watching the gameplay footage again.
I loved Turok Evolution as a kid. It was one of the games that my grandpa and I played together and took turn on levels, if he was stuck I'd take over, and vice versa.
I was working at EB Games when this came out. Supposedly Acclaim taked the higher-ups into allowing store employees to take the game home before or on launch day to better familiarize themselves with the game. That was a very, very bad idea as the have did not play well. I remember us having to put it in the XBox demo unit and laughing at how poor the controls were in the Pterodactyl flying stages. One nudge of the left analog stick would send you flying into the ground or the side of a mountain.
I'd like to hear what happened behind the scenes with Metroid: Other M. The little snippeds I've read around the net make it seem like it might be a Tommy Wiseau/Devil's Third-esque scenario of a specific self-professed Auteur creator getting lost in the sauce of their own flawless-to-them vision, but I'd like to hear some of the facts behind that.
Yes, the choices made on that game truly demand explanation. I'm also shocked Nintendo went along with it, considering how careful they are with their core franchises in general.
Turok as a series has a special place in my heart. Turok 2 was the first fps game I've ever played. Even though Evolution didn't turn out to be that good, I still enjoyed it growing up. Nowadays, playing Turok 2 remastered not only gives me nostalgia and satisfaction of finally playing it properly on PC, it makes me long for a sequel. As a lifelong fan of the series, I would love to see a new Turok game.
@@Pavlinka__ Just because people liked it, doesn’t mean it can’t show up on the show. Plenty of good games like Doom, LA Noire and Metal Gear Rising have been featured on the show. I've always wondered why Disney of all people decided to take Toruk? What did they want from it? Why did they do so little with it? Disney and Turok don't sound like things that should go together if you ask me, it makes me confused. What was the plan if there was any?
Yeah the fact the franchise went to disney is still so weird. I'm surprised they they didn't try to make a turok movie in the vein of pirates or something
Took me years to beat this game as a kid! I had completely forgotten about the flying levels cause they were incredibly easy and finished in 5 minutes each. Whereas some of the ground levels were incredibly difficult, thus memorable
I owned this game and played with my cousin every week for years. It was both of our first FPS games that we played a multiplayer death match style in. There were some great things about the multiplayer, especially the variety in weapons and the gore. Looking at others comments has reminded me of the cray load outs you could do in this game which made every match feel different. The single player definitely wasn't great, but this game holds a special place in my heart and I'm surprised it has such low reviews. I'm guessing most didn't play it in the same capacity i did.
I never played any other game in the series since I was honestly just a kid when I played Turok: Evolution. It was my absolute favorite game as a kid. I have so much nostalgia for this game. Sometimes I even play the soundtrack when I am working to this day. I have a server on The Isle, called Turok: Evolution.
I remember those pterodactyl sections, utterly hated them. Once hit an autosave bug where I kept dying to a crash as soon as the game loaded, had to restart my whole game. Bah.
This is late, but I'd recommend doing a video on Dino Crisis 3. It's so mishandled and all over the place, that it's hard to believe it's a Dino Crisis title. It even killed the franchise, which is really sad cause the first two games were great That or the Atari Jaguar. I wanna know how that mess came to be
The only common thing is the dinosaurs lol. Turok is more like 007, perfect dark, or time splitters for the era. The game you talking about is more like old school resident evils.
This game is pure nostalgia to me. My parents gifted me Turok Evolution cause I was obsessed with dinosaurs, and they never thought the amount of gore it would have but still I spent HOURS playing on my PS2, just ripping lizard men limbs off. I just miss those times. As a kid I really didn't care so much for the story, the levels were a sandbox where I had fun experimenting with weapons and all sorts of dismemberment

"A rapotoid claw" *no more heroes electric quitar strum* this is why I'm subscribed to you.
This game was so poorly recieved, Electronic Gaming Monthly referenced it in their annual Tobias Bruckner Memorial Awards .
Yeah! I remember those worst of worst awards presented by Tobias Bruckner haha
The GBA Turok Evolution was actually a decent side scrolling shooter.
what a shame. this game had so much cool stuff in it. one of the levels took place in a fortress on the back of a giant sauropod. the level is awfully designed and has an alarm constantly blaring, but the idea was awesome at least.
That
fucking
alarm
And to this day I'm imagining ID software would pick up the rights and make a Turok sequel picking up after shadow of Oblivion. Man can dream.
I have been waiting to see what happens ever since playing Shadow of Oblivion the first time... Back when I was a kid! They left things on such an open ended note I really hope Turok gets the Doom treatment and makes a return!
@@omegamysterio3701 And they keep Mick Gordon. Imagine him putting a spin on the first and second games soundtracks. Make them optional to play through each play through while he makes a new track for the sequel.
Just as soon as Todd buys DreamWorks. 😂

I highly recommend playing the 2 episodes of blues and bullets anyways yes it's still worth it.

Maybe one day you could cover the forgettable Turok 2008, it would probably be an interesting Wha Happun cause the early HD era was a nightmare for all developers.

I used to play this game every night when I was a kid
Still have fond memories
It's a shame because that game had so much potential and so many cool weapon types. Looking back on it, it was still light years better than the next Turok game.
Honestly Turok was my very first video game, so this just makes me feel incredible sad.

"Cap-tain Bruck-ner!!" sounds like something the crowd would shout at a WWE event, when Brock Lesnar is being a lazy git.
Lmao what up my dude!
@@MrAllmightyCornholioz lol sup.
I thought Evolution was a MIND BLOWING, incredibly good game... I loved it! Had a blast, played it several times, had a blast every time! the only first person shooters that impressed me as much as Turok Evolution did (at the time) were TimeSplitters 2 and Future Perfect...
it really is a fantastic game
This is seriously the best series on TH-cam.
Thank you for doing this. This game had so much potential and I’m sad to see wha happun to it.
One of my cherished childhood memories is playing this with friends at sleepovers while getting a stomach ache from too many milk duds and Mt dew
So much nostalgia. Despite its many flaws, I love that game. Transports me to my childhood like nothing else
FMNFB! Man, I'm happy to see this game pop up here. The music in the background was a wonderful little nostalgia kick. This was the only Turok game I ever played, and despite being janky and shallow for sure, I still have some good memories of my multiple playthroughs. Thank you, Matt!

I just recently beat Turok 1 and at the end of Turok 2 now. I have absolutely loved it even by today’s standards the game play is fun!
the only turok game I have played was the one on ps3, I remember it being pretty alright but I am sure the other games are better
The Turok game on PS3/X360 has nothing in commen with the N64 games, except the name & being First-Person.
This game is criminally underrated. The multiplayer is a huge part of my childhood.
I actually kind of like this game

This game means deeply to me and hearing anyone talk about turok makes me smile c:
Maybe one day a new turok game will come out that sees the vision of evolution. Hell a doom style revival would be sick or nightwolf having a Tal'set skin in mk11 as a reference to acclaim publishing both MK and turok will would be sick.
The Jurassic Park bit got a hearty chuckle out of me. Loved the video, great work as always

During this particular time period (Gamecube), you had "Timesplitters 2" (Best Multiplayer), and "Turok: Evolution" (Best Solo Campaign).
While I have no experience with Turok, I remember playing the heck out of the demo for Vexx.
THE VERY RIGHT CHOICE
If you're doing movies, then what about Blade: Trinity? I heard that movie had a very troubled production.
I loved Turok Evolution as a kid. It was one of the games that my grandpa and I played together and took turn on levels, if he was stuck I'd take over, and vice versa.

" *NO-ONE'S EVER REALLY GONE!!* "
I was working at EB Games when this came out. Supposedly Acclaim taked the higher-ups into allowing store employees to take the game home before or on launch day to better familiarize themselves with the game. That was a very, very bad idea as the have did not play well. I remember us having to put it in the XBox demo unit and laughing at how poor the controls were in the Pterodactyl flying stages. One nudge of the left analog stick would send you flying into the ground or the side of a mountain.
Idc I love this game! It was my first game on my ps2 and as a kid who never had pc games and only had a SNES and PS1...it blew my mind!
Recently discovered your content and really fell in love with it. Especially the 'What Happened' series. Keep up the great work.
I really enjoyed this game. making enemies puke to death with poison arrows and especially that multiplayer map with the raptors below the tree forts.
Some of the playable multiplayer characters were raptors
I used to be real scared of falling down there.
Jesus the memories of watching my cuzzins play turok and then me playing the games were years of awesomeness
I'm betting TLoU part 2 is gonna be on this show.
Why? I mean, its story is utter trash, but I bet more than enough people were ok-ish with it.
@@Pavlinka__ Just because people liked it, doesn’t mean it can’t show up on the show. Plenty of good games like Doom, LA Noire and Metal Gear Rising have been featured on the show. The primary factor in deciding whether a game gets on the show is if it had a troubled development.
Bad games are just easier targets.
Turok in Kingdom Hearts when?
I COMPLETELY forgot about Vexx, oh my gosh. Such a throwback!
Woaaah people still talkin about Turok, this is awesome!! I actually quite enjoyed this game, aldoe it's hard asf
I want Turok Evolution to be revived again. :(
I never played any other game in the series since I was honestly just a kid when I played Turok: Evolution. It was my absolute favorite game as a kid. I have so much nostalgia for this game. Sometimes I even play the soundtrack when I am working to this day. I have a server on The Isle, called Turok: Evolution.
I wish they just continued where turok 3 ended.
It even killed the franchise, which is really sad cause the first two games were great
That or the Atari Jaguar. I wanna know how that mess came to be
The only common thing is the dinosaurs lol. Turok is more like 007, perfect dark, or time splitters for the era. The game you talking about is more like old school resident evils.
Dino Crisis NEEDS a RE2R/RE7 style remake.
This was actually the only Turok game I've played. I liked it.
Maybe something about the Wii U tittle "Lost Reavers"? Probably not that interesting, but that thing came and went.
