It was quick, gas mileage was terrible and parts weren't cheap (my dad used it as a daily driver), but every time I heared that V8, I knew I was having fun. Too bad he sold it and ever since then, he only had quite boring bmw's, mercedes' and volvo's :(

  • @Nardib
    @Nardib 2 ปีที่แล้ว +41

Doug you missed some really fun quirks:
    - Air compressor for blowing tyres located under the seat (the actual compressor pump is in the trunk but you can put that hose thing into the passenger's front seat)
-Cigarette lighters/charging places underneath the glovebox where passenger's feet would be
-My GTS has a hidden compartment between the rear seats which expanded a quite long fabric that would go through the trunk. Figured that was a Ski pocket where you can put your ski gear in the trunk and they extend between the seats but the fabric would wrap it so no snow gets inside the seats

    • @Corvetteboy6988

Compressor/ pump is under the passengers seat, well, under the pass seat under the unibody/chassis, not under the actual seat, like the connection point for the air hose is. The compressor tank/accumulator is under the floor in the cargo area, not the compressor.

I have a 2009 Cayenne GTS, although it's the automatic 6-speed, and have taken it to the track and up in the mountains on logging roads - remarkably capable in both cases. The 2009 tech is a bit dated, but I still love the car. You missed the quirks about the 12v power plugs in the passenger foot well, double visors for driver and passenger, the mirror assist for parallel parking (passenger mirror drops to show the curb), heated steering wheel (perhaps that's an option?), and buttons on back of steering wheel to control lights on steering wheel buttons. Don't forget it can tow 7700 pounds, and sport mode also opens valves in the exhaust for a sportier sound.

It is surprising to me that when we go snowmobiling or even drag the trailer to the track, how often that I'm stopped and asked "you're pulling that (22' V-nose trailer) with this?" And the other was when a guy in Ford pickup rolled down his window at a traffic light and asked is the trailer empty?? Of course it wasn't.... I bought a '14 CGTS late last year and I can confirm it's an amazing suv....it handles like nothing else. Mine is PDCC equipped and I was keeping up with C8 vettes and bmw m4 through Tail of the Dragon, which is unreal for a 5k lb SUV! A proper ballerina. My previous car was a Maserati GranTurismo, and the GTS out accelerates, out-handles, and out performs that car in every measurable way while also being able to tow 7800 lbs, go off road, and carry 5 people in luxury and comfort. It's an amazing vehicle and so far has been rock solid at almost 80k miles. This gen of Cayenne didn't come with the manual but the 8 speed tiptronic is super, super quick. If you've ever driven a Macan, the shifts are as quick as the DCT in that. They are rev matched in sport mode, but obviously it's not quite as smooth as DCT. But it's very rapid, and the added benefit is an extra gear and the ability to tow huge amounts. I would love to drive one of these manuals one day super super cool truck!!!

I have no lights or catastrophic issues but the front end for example needs some work. Bushings/control arms etc. Parts are very expensive. So are basic things like oil changes, tires, etc. Make sure you can afford out of warranty maintenance for a 6 figure car and know most of it will be deferred when you buy it😂 but if you can it’s really a solid vehicle

Doug, the button on the wiper stalk that controls the little screen has been standard on all VW products for quite some time. At least from the mid 90s to the early 2010s. Quite intuitive when you use it for a little bit.
The parking lights are actually a legal requirement in Europe, there are certain situations where you are supposed to turn them on, and in order to not drain the battery as much it is like that on many European cars, leave the blinker on turns on the parking light on that side.

    • @SlaughterDog

Doug, there is minimal turbo lag in a 955/957 generation Cayenne (sounds like you need to drive one, you can visit me and review/drive mine!!!). This isnt late 80's early 90's turbo lag here (I have had many turbos over the years and still do). Maybe not like a 2022 turbo application, but you dont need to ring it out to 4000 rpm and then it smacks you in the back. I get the ~0.6-0.8 bar at ~ 2600 rpm. The relatively big engine displacement and not overly big turbos are the reasons. Peak torque is at 2250 rpm, so maybe even quicker spool up than I am noticing via the tac.

Stupid design imo, and I think they do it for a mix of cost savings and retro purposes. These cars are designed with auto transmissions in mind, so manual transmissions are put in as an afterthought. People won't watch if the videos are too long, and frankly a HUGE portion of the cars I review have things like double sun visors -- it's just not that interesting. Same goes for buttons you can press front or back on the steering wheel -- it's just not interesting to the majority of people. If I really let loose, I could do over an hour on each car, but then nobody would watch. Ultimately, my videos are a lesson in priorities: some people will be mad I didn't cover enough, some people will be mad the video was too long and I covered too much, and the goal is finding the right spot in the middle.

@@DougDeMuro Doug, thank you for actually addressing our concerns. Your point makes sense and yes, each enthusiast probably looks for different detail to be covered and not everything can be.
If I can offer some sincere feedback, can you research some of the options more? I'm sure you get a ton of cars and you get busy, but it really takes the quality down a notch when you aren't able to research some options and it looks like you're guessing.

One thing that might be nice is to put into the video description a slight teaser of vehicles coming up that you're going to review. In general though, I appreciate the reviews. I know that classic (muscle) cars don't get as many views, but I'd like to see a few thrown in here and there.

People complained the videos were too long, so this is what you have instead. Frankly it's better this way anyway -- now I get to give a good, full summary of the car instead of "Like every car in this class, practicality is a 7 out of 10" or whatever.

My dad started working at VW when the Touareg and Cayenne etc were being designed and he still laughs at people who bought the Cayenne because back then it was a worse Touareg for double the money, just with a different Badge. Even interally at VW they knew that the car was worse than the equivalent Touareg, but customers didnt care, they wanted the Porsche Badge

    • @meinimoe1346

Not true. We had both in our family and the cayenne feel more well build and have better finish. They were build by different people at different factories.

@@meinimoe1346 its the same chassis with the same engines, back then even the same gearbox. Its all platform PL71. Every electronic bit was the same behind the veneer. What led to the Cayenne being less reliable was the switches failing due to porsche having differnet switch gear to VW and Audi, and my guess, not having tested it enough

@Maxi My father has a 2007 Touareg & I have a Cayenne GTS 2008. I know that it's the same chassis, but the car feels completely diffrent & and the car looks diffrent. Even the 4.8L Engine in the Cayenne were only used in the Cayenne & Panamera. So i understand how you can say something like this. The only Toureg feeling you have is the door handle that's it.

14:08 Alright Doug, think about it a little harder. Let's say I need to use the cigarette lighter outlet or "automobile auxiliary power outlet" to plug up and recharge my cell phone while I am riding in the back seat of this Cayenne but where, oh where am I going to put the cigarette lighter while I am using the outlet? Maybe I use the storage compartment in the armrest or drop it into the footwell but then it will roll around making noise and be annoying. What should I do? If only the Porsche engineers thought about this and made a little spot to store the lighter where it will be secure while I am using the outlet... Yeah, I can be a smart-ass at times. Love the channel and all your videos. Keep up the great work.
