    Man. During the earlier rallies, there doesn't feel like there is a level difference between you and him, despite the difference in rankings. Huge props to your skill to keep the rally going despite how heavy his balls are.
    Once he starts attacking with his heavy ground strokes, it's hard to reach the ball. Once you add his serve and return, it must be a completely different ball game.
    Thanks for uploading and commentating it! Love to hear a pro's experience against a top player

    It's amazing...even in that first clip, it looks like you guys hit shots on the same level, but then I notice Sinner looks like he's having a warmup while you are scrambling to keep up. It is always mind blowing to me how much better and better players can be than someone already so good. Sometimes it is inspiring, other times it is discouraging 😂

    For all you folks that watch tennis on TV and say, I can do that…you can’t! These were massive shots. You can’t handle this pace, depth, and heaviness. Go watch a 5.0 or D1 college tennis player practice and then come back and look at this practice. It’s apples and oranges; night and day.
    Great content and great job hanging with a top 10 player! 😊

    • @davidgpz
      @davidgpz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Best D1 college players have ATP rankings tho, they are not 5.0, those guys are much much better than a 5.0. At my university we've got 4 or 5 ATP ranked players and we are not even top 10 on the University tennis rankings. Our best player is a 900 ATP ranked player

      @andrer3764 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      As another hobby player just fyi it's not uncommon for players as "low as" 5.0 to rally and practice with pros. However, the difference is that once point construction comes into play, the consistency of the pros become relevant. You don't see that in rallies like this.

    Love Jannik. Class act...and so are you my friend. I think if it wasn't for your inner dialogue and Jannik's superb confidence, you'd be at the exact same level of his hits...this is not to take anything away from his incredible talent, but to say that you are barely any different level wise/ability wise.

    • @ericzhong5863
      @ericzhong5863 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you take a look at around 7:00 mark, you will notice that there is quite a significant difference in quality of shots.
      However, the "significant difference" is still very small because that is how the top of the sport is like. Technique wise, I think Sinner has a very penetrating, forward-going swing path that barely gets the ball over the net, but the ball is very fast; it is just so efficient.
      Obviously not taking anything away from Simon, he is just incredible.

    • @-Munditimum-
      @-Munditimum- ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ericzhong5863 I can see what you're saying for sure, but what you consider a "higher quality shot" (as you mentioned - around 7:00 mark, which is a short duration) maybe one that's more low to the net and faster, and many will agree with you. It's honestly not a bad assessment. I chose to see it in a way where they are just two different types of shots. Simon's stroke progressions, even when he is warming up with Jannik is much more of a "ball shaper" than a fast-though stroke, designed for better percentages and net clearance. This can help Simon be safer as he progresses towards higher ATP rankings where most are concerned with hard hitting shots that are less safe as far as percentages go. In addition, my statement above is not a conclusion from this video but from quite a few where I've observed Simon play with flatter and harder shots. Thirdly, this video is a shortened version of the practice, so we can't be really sure if maybe there were times that Simon was hitting very aggressively, however I don't think honestly that would be the case since Jannik's coach was directing Simon as well for the practice session (from what I understand-I maybe wrong). Lastly, I would be quite tight knowing that I'm playing somebody as talented as Jannik and that in itself will take away quite a bit from swinging the racquet properly. I hope you can see my point. Thanks for your comment. Cheers! 🙂

  • @icypwnageify
    @icypwnageify ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In my humble opinion:
    Seems like how he is winning against is that he always pulls you off balance (could be a combination of his powerful shots and/or footwork issue on your part), so you feel like you are in panic mode and your next shot is not as stable or powerful.
    Like especially when you are pulled wide on your backhand you slice or step across the body to make a backhand drive, so it makes your subsequent recovery and next shot less stable, and he can just push you around the court after that.
    His body in response to your shots is mostly stable, like when he is pulled wide on the backhand he does that Djokovic backhand drive reach with the left leg stepping out wide, which subsequently allows for his stable recovery and next shot more stable.
    I would recommend rallying with a wider base and getting to the ball with a more stable footwork. (I humbly assume that you are not used to his level of pace so your footwork is not trained to be stable against a top 10).
    Other than that I believe your upper body stroke and wrist(looseness) can be just as good as his no problem. It just seems to me to be a stability/lower body/footwork issue.

      @Simon.Freund  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi @icypwnageify! Really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and insight, and I really agree with your conclusion.
      Thank really is something I struggle with, on the both sides when I get push I struggle to find the weight and depth necessary in order to “survive” against better players. Really trying to improve that with strength and movement, but my recent foot injuries haven’t helped that process haha… work in progress!! Thanks again, really good insight and thoughts 👊

    Short question: I'm sure that hitting with players like this is a reward on its own, but could you shed some light on how payment arrangements work for this kind of hitting? Like, touring pro player is in town and needs people to hit with-- do the local pros hit with him for free and for the experience, or does the touring pro usually pay them a fee for their time?

      Horrible, I can't believe how players today DON"T have a complete game, (when he said he has a complete game, I choked, he didn't even leave the baseline) their game is one dimensional, baseline only!!! This entire 15 minute video, he came to the net maybe once and he looked horrible as he has no skills at the net, there is no net play, no volley, no drop shots, and most players today use that safe weak limited 2 handed backhand (with limited reach) and net play or volleying at the net for a winner is eliminated if you use a 2 handed backhand, how can these players come to the net and make adjustments to place 2 hands on the backhand side for a net volley? It's impossible. This entire session was someone standing on the baseline and trading shots, where is the charisma, creativity, shot making, volleys ???? They don't exist, they don't have the hands for the net anymore, it's become a game of advanced rackets and string technology that do most of the work, so why get off the baseline, the racket will assist them today. Todays tennis is robotic and boring, it's a shame, the real tennis players were in the 80's and 90's, its unrecognizable today, todays players would not be playing if they had to use the equipment from the 80's and 90's and be forced to S/V and rush to the net on every point, they simply could not play today. The technology assists them like a handicap. Same thing happened to Golf.

    I really enjoyed that, mainly because it looked like a pretty competitive hit. How did YOU feel about it? I'd love to know what areas you thought you might want to work on after observing Jannik. Not because of wanting to emulate him necessarily, but when you get a feel for the shots of another player, it makes you think "I need to hit it like X, Y, or Z".

    It almost feels as if he has an impervious effect..insofar as he casts this spell of machine like consistency of super high quality balls and one could quite easily convince oneself just to put the ball back over the net without any real expectation of making a dent.Many of the players he meets will have been beaten before they go on court.

    He has all the potential, probably needs to improve his physio a bit to hang in there isn’t he slams and the long season, but with his hands, his wheels and shot making, he surely could get there
