One year later Holger Rune passes some AMAZING drop shots in Paris atp 1000 final against one of the best player for a decade and win the title... what a coach!!!!
@@Piggy123407 Yes. The more it bounced before the ball reached the service line, the better. It shows that the ball is slowing down and is harder to reach by the opponent. If it only bounces once or twice before the service line, the ball is in the air longer after the first bounce, and the opponent can easily reach it.
What really impressed me was when Patrick asked Holger where HE wanted to put the target instead of just telling him where the target should be. From a psychological point of view this is the difference between a person centered approach and analysis. By inviting his student to participate in the coaching, Holger takes ownership of the process, and is in turn empowered and more invested in his own progress. Throughout the video Patrick communicates in a way that minimizes his ego and makes his student the center of attention. This is really great coaching and the techniques Patrick uses can be utilized by everyones especially parents and teachers.
@@eduardochernia Make no mistake about it, that's a business deal. Rune is accommodated in the top-notch Mouratoglou facilities, and has agreed to do this in exchange of paying less. He has absolutely NO need of tennis "instruction" from a person who has never competed professionally.
Marc, you nailed it. And you didn't even mention "the little birdie" in Holger's mind. Creative visualization certainly rounds out Patrick's participative coaching!
Currently watching Holger play Stefanos at the French Open and Rune's dropshots are outstanding! They may have won this first set for him.... fantastic work!
At the last open in Miami, when Sinner was playing against Kyrgios he tried several drop shots, they mostly (75%) ended in the net. It happened when at the time of impact he completely stopped with his body. The few times he moved into and pass the impact zone with the ball he made it over the net. I find it simpler and more effective to execute a drop shot using my body's momentum to move ball forward while use the hand on a continental grip just to give rpm. Patrick's advice is spot on
Last week I saw a match of Holger and I thought to myself: I want to be able to play dropshots like him. And I found your video :) Thank you so much for the great content. Merci beaucoup :)
I saw this video after Rune won the Paris masters..weelll this practice explain the story behind..with all this great coaching and full of motivation with happiness they get the result they desired imo..I wish to have a similar teacher, lecturer or what so ever similar to Patrick.. this is not a simple training lesson, this is a kind of motivational therapy. Great team !
I hope Patrick manages to bring the very best out of Holger. He is most definitely a passionate coach & has a young and upcoming star who will shine for many glorious years to come!
I wonder why he failed Serena so much, 6 finals in the last few years, and not one win, if Serena never gets past 23, questions and suspicions will be raised.
for the tennis nerds here: you do understand we are talking about a fully formed top 100 player here (Rune) who can do a drop shot to perfection in a training setting and this is content produced for Muratoglu Academy for marketing reasons to attract as many tennis nerds as possible to the 5 star resort + tennis academy as possible. Not being a party pooper (I might be one of those clients next summer) ,but I am amused by the comments.
@@akontecetks9749 The word “few” is meaningless, and so your comment regarding Nadal’s serve is unintelligible. And, what is the relevance of Nadal’s serve anyway?
@@akontecetks9749 Top players do change their techniques indeed, most often the serve. Most of the time that is because their regular technique is causing them injury not because they can't get a quality shot. Occasionally you see a top player changing from platform to pinpoint stance, trading stability and leg power for height and forward leaning ... But you will never see a top player being schooled on basic technique, instantly producing higher quality shots, especially not when he's being asked to revert his modern technique to old school. That's just a fraud.
Great teacher. Visual, showing the movement, complimenting, taking elements step by step and adding something all the time. Great listener as well. Sometimes i would love to hear why he wants to see a particular movement more. With follow through he does that by saying it adds control. Other times like when extending in the direction he wants to slice the ball, i would love to hear the reasoning or science behind the movement.
People talk shit about Mouratoglou's actual impact as a coach but its clear he knows how to help his students. Rune just had arguably the best Masters run ever and is heading in to 2023 looking like a top 5 player.
After 1 year ..at the final with the number one DJOKE.. an Holger Rune with a Patrick engine made 10 drop shots at the final.. the 90% was a point... The miracle called Mouratoglu.. ( also great work of Holger)
Patrick is not only great trainer but also coach, when he says to him, don't judge yourselves that you hit the ball to high, think that the ball had a goos spin and you need to just do it a bit lower...positive coaching!
That was pretty cool! We had the same advice from a former local pro, young lady coach who tought my son in 1h how to execute a drop shot.I was amazed how fast he learnt and he still remebers her advice. Everything fits except for the basket 🤣
When hitting a drop shot dont stop do the opposite so follow through but with ur legs and when u hit ur drop shot when u hit the racket after the impact point the ball goes behind ur racket and bring the ball over the net with ur legs (feel like)
Holger Rune has broken through at Munich 2022! He was a completely different player a few weeks ago. He now looks like he backs himself. Patrick, what was the transformation??
Now I have a question: how do you retrieve a drop shot? I believe the best way is down the line rather than cross in order to block the angles to the opponent
Actually some good tips... Most pros forget to teach trajectory and also walking the shot in after contact... He did forget to state you only walk it in if the ball is medium to slow speed... If the ball is coming fast (i.e., it's short but tons of topspin) you can't walk it in as much or you will have too power on it... But in most cases the terminology is that all drop shots are also approach shots but not bad overall Pat ✌️
How this drop shots stroke by Patrick compared to Alcaraz drop shot? My opinion is to teach drop shot and also how the fake or disguise with out being detected by an opponent
This geezer is funny. When is a fantastic player going to hit the ball mid-court? And even if he does the points over you don’t need to hit a drop shot If Rune will practise drop shot there is two things to bear in mind : 1 your hitting the ball from the base line from quiet deep position where you could of chose to take a good swipe at it and 2 your having the action or you start by disguising it as though your going to rip the ball either cross court or back and after you fake you follow through with a drop shot catching the opponent off guard . You need to hit with right trajectory as the instructor shows very well in this video. The drop shot itself part teaching is good. No problem
12/8/2021 Please talk about the different grips for different shots. For example, talk about the grip for topspin, for a slice serve, for one-handed backhand. I use a Western grip for topspin groundstroke. Is that correct/incorrect?
Forehand topspin: your grip will suffice, although for anyone under 4.5 ntrp / 7 UTR, the western fh grip is hard bc it requires a lot of acceleration Slice and flat serve, slice groundstokes, volleys, overheads, and drop shots: continental grip - shake hands with the racket One hand / two hand drive backhand: easter backhand grip, the opposite of the western fh grip but less extreme.
Also whats very important for playing a drop shop, swing of your forhand or very helpful. Rune has a perfect forhand for drop shots because his swing is short in general ,so he can hide it better..
Good for Rune that after all those years of training, finally someone explains the drop shot to him. That may be the difference between a top 100 and a top 10 player! And such a quick learner too!
That is true, but when the ball is coming faster, the player can play a dropshot with less effort. This video is more for technique instruction. A rally at the end or a match with some dropshots would have been better!
