    Now I'll share something with you. Insert your poles, open your hatch halfway, place the tent over the hatch then push your hatch the rest of the way open. The hatch will do the lifting for you, very little upper body needed and you won't wear yourself out setting it up, hope it helps. Safe Travels

    My husband did a bunch of research.on these tents, and landed on this one. Tonight he wanted to see what it looked like, so he searched the name and I told him to watch your video because "I trust RVA Hiker Girl!" He actually appreciated your set up video and the other one you did featuring the tent. We have done some camping with our van, and we want to do more in the future. The tent will give us more space and living area. Thanks RVA!

      @@RVAHikerGirl we took it to Pictured Rocks in Michigan in August (we had booked a campground that was "tent-only") and we were both so happy and impressed with how it did. @@sueb860 Yes! It really is a versitile tent with it being free standing and being able to connect to your car. It just gives you so much more space to move around, put gear, sleep. I bought the bigger 84000 a few weeks ago, and after trying and not really succeeding in setting it up in my too-small back yard, I started watching videos about solo setup. I think you nailed it by attaching it to the back of the vehicle FIRST. That is definitely what I'll be doing. Thanks!

    • @RVAHikerGirl
      @RVAHikerGirl  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have tried it many ways and after some of my viewer comments on how they did it it really helped. Draping the fly over before putting up the 4 poles helps so I don’t struggle with it now. Your tent would be a bit heavier than this one though. So That might work better for you to attach first. For me I like setting it up first then moving it to my car. Less pulling with its weight. Great video. Have the tent now and put it up alone thanks to this demonstration. Thanks for taking the time to do this. One trick I changed was how I started the fly. I tied one side to the vehicle which made it 'static'. Then went to the other side and was able to pull it up and tie it off. Went back to the other side where I tied and fixed it into place. This worked really well.

    I had such a rotten day practicing backing up my travel trailer and. Users out my back window (don’t ask😩).. before that had a terrible time just getting the trailer hitches to the car. Cried, then buckled up and thought “I selling it!” And I just bought it 7 weeks ago! But even with today’s headaches, I still crave to camp. I discovered your videos tonight, and they have made me feel so much better… thank you! Btw, I am 64 and have always loved the outdoors, and have really found a love of hiking the past few years. I’m a newbie camper, so what are the best type of camp sites for me?

      Oh no. Don't give up and keep practicing. You will get better with time. It's hard when you have the eyes of other campers watching you. Just do you and don't worry about others. Us gals can do anything we put our minds too. Camping is the best and I absolutely love it. Look for. campsites that you can pull through rather than backing up. They would be RV sites but that might make it easier. Look at Recreation.gov, HipCamp.com, state parks, National Parks, National Forests, there are boondocking apps and websites, as well as free camping websites and apps that I use. Hope that helps. Wishing you many amazing adventures this year! BTW I have another solo car camping video that may interest you as well. ~RVA~

      Yes camping tents are very different than backpacking tents. They are heavier and larger for sure. But I may be a little addicted to tents. I love creating a little home in the woods every chance I get. I just wanted to show all the solo travelers and campers out there that 1 person can set up this tent. So many women in particular are getting out there solo and I wanted to show that this sort of tent is a great addition to camping and sleeping just in your SUV. Before a roof top, check the specs for the vehicle; not all can take the load and if you have a full moonroof (front to almost rear) might not be a great idea. Also, roof tops are not for people with dogs, unless you have a small one you can carry up. Just some words of caution.

      Yep, you sure can close the hatch. You don't need your car at all for this tent to free stand on its own. You can detach it, zip it up, and drive away to a hike, etc. Then drive back and reattach. That's what makes this tent so versatile and amazing. ~RVA~

    I loved the video. I really liked that you showed the struggle of putting the rain guard up. My question to you is can you comfortably close your trunk with the tent set up while you are away and want your vehicle to be secure? Also, if you don't have the roof rack can you still clip it on to something?

    • @RVAHikerGirl
      @RVAHikerGirl  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I keep it real in my videos for sure showing the good and bad of my adventures and whatever I am doing. And keep it honest for my viewers on stuff. On my key chain I have a button I hit to open and close my hatch. But when I have the tent on I don't close the hatch. I keep it open for the fresh air, well except in the winter when it's really cold. Otherwise I don't think it would be very easy to close the hatch while in the car. And yes I have had the question before about no roof rack. If you just have side roof rails you can use those or the tent comes with some long straps that you can attach and run to your hood area. I have seen other people attach to the door handles inside the car as well. Hope this info helps. ~RVA~

      @peggywalshcraig659 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The part of the tent that attaches to the hatch can be zipped off for when you drive away and leave the tent on site. It seems like you might get rain inside because the RAI fly does t cover the hatch area, but I left mine in a heavy rain and water didn’t get inside the tent. It’s excellent and I have managed to put it up solo a number of times. 71-year-old female

    Great work! Saw that you've modified how you set it up, but nicely done. :)

      Thank you! Yes I think the more and more you use any outdoor equipment the more you cater it to your needs and figure new ways to set up and take down etc. Thanks for stopping by the channel. ~RVA~

    Awesome video! Came across your video while looking for an annex tent that I can set-up by myself, while camping across the country with my dogs, for the first time. I came across another video saying that I should not put away my tent, when it is wet. My cross-country trip does follow a timeline, so I have to get back on the road by a certain time. Do you have any tips or suggestions, when the tent is wet and I have to leave the campsite? Thanks!

      Happy you found my channel. Welcome to the my TH-cam family! Yes don't put a tent away wet. It will get moldy. Lay it out in your vehicle if you can to dry. Or let it dry before you pack up if possible. Not sure if that was what you were asking. If not ask, again. Always happy to help. ~RVA~

    Do you think it would work better with putting up the rain fly if you put velcro on the tent pole areas and the fly (like 4 sides) roll the fly up and then just unroll it as you put the poles in? Like so the fly is already attached when you put it up so you don't have to struggle to pull it over? I LOVE this video! Thank you so much!!! I'm interested in one of these and I feel confident that it will work for me after watching this!! 👏👏💚💚

      After making this video and talking with several people who own this one, I have discovered there are so many different ways to put up this tent. Yes, that is one of the ways someone suggested but you can't roll up the sides of the fly to keep it out of the way to see what you're doing. You would have to go underneath it to put up the side polls. I think as a solo individual you just have to put it up several times and figure out a way that works best for you. This is such a great tent and it really is versatile in so many ways. Very glad this video helped you and let me know what you think if you decide to get this one. I would love to hear about it. ~RVA~

      Just drape fly over front end of vehicle (much lower height) then move it toward back door and it glides over roof and down onto top of tent

    I've got that same Napier SUV tent but with the side room on LH side. I had a small piece of black netting like a tiny tent that I think was meant to go at the top apex somehow? I found that the tent was so hot with the fly over top. TY for the great tip not to use the fly at all if setting up under tree cover

      That little piece attaches inside to make a little shelf for items. But I didn't use it because I couldn't reach it. Yes it is much cooler with the fly off. I have sleep with it both ways may times and much prefer it off. Not sure if you can been in it when it rains really hard. A light rain no biggy. But for thunderstorms with hours of heavy rain it needs to be seam sealed. Especially up close to the car where the water is coming off the roof of your car and down in the holes below the bumper.

    Wow great video! Can you attach it with the hatch closed & open it after you have the poles attached?

      Thanks a bunch! Yes you can put up the tent with or without it being attached to the car. The hatch can be opened or closed, which ever you prefer. Hope that helps. ~RVA~

    Consider using a spring clamp during setup to act as a second hand, especially when prepositioning the rain fly. A mark/piece of tape on the tent fabric indicating the final placement will aid in where to set the spring clamp.

      I have set this tent up a bunch since making this video. I learned to attach fly to the top before putting up the poles. Now no more struggling. 👍🏼

    I have watched so many videos and yours by far was the best! We are looking for our next family tent because we need an upgrade! How does this stand up to high winds like at the beach?

      Aww so happy it’s helpful. I have never taken my car on the beach because I don’t have a four-wheel-drive vehicle so I don’t know as far as camping on the beach. I’ve been in one storm with it and it did leak some so I had to go in and seam seal all the seams, and then I spray sealed the rest of the tent, and the fly. With that being said, I seam and spray seal all of my tents that I own, unless they are made from dyneema which is waterproof.
