Yes. It's just silly to second-guess it. Even directors who say "oh this prequel is what I would've made first if I'd had the chance, I intend this to be the new first movie"...they released that movie to an audience who the vast majority HAD SEEN THE ORIGINAL before the prequel. There's NO WAY the prequel isn't going to work after seeing the originals. You can't go wrong with release order, it's how every other adult who cared about the franchise saw it!

And it's impossible to explain how incredible this was in 1977.
Movies in the mid 70's were gritty and bleak.
They built Industrial Light And Magic, the gold standard for effects work today, from scratch.
The industry was incapable of making Star Wars in 1976, so Lucas changed the industry.

R2 is an astromech, basically a mechanic robot so he can cut, weld, preform electrical repairs, access computer systems and do most everything required to fix mechanical devices, especially spacecraft, on the fly.

It is one of my pet peeves that occurs in many movies that a character's name gets pronounced in different ways. This happens in real life but is jarring in a movie. It is part of continuity and is often missed. Perhaps the worst offender in a great movie is in the Christmas film "The Bishop's Wife" (1947) in which nearly every character pronounces the Bishop's name differently.

As for the "proper order", you did it EXACTLY RIGHT. The first-time newbie should always watch the films in the order they were released to get the same experience the rest of us did when we had no choice but to wait 3 years for the next movie to be released. The reason is because of the plot twist reveals, and getting familiarized with the characters and things pertaining to the SWU (Star Wars Universe), like the Force, Jedis, Sith, etc.
After you finish Episode III, find a fan-made clip called "SC-38 (Scene 38) Reimagined" - it's the lightsaber duel for the first movie (Episode IV) between Vader and Kenobi on the Death Star - it has been expanded through modern tech and made int oa much more intense conflict. This has to wait til after Episode III due to elements for that film being mixed in for maximum emotional impact.
It's only 6 minutes, but so worth it.
Resuming the films, check out the "A Star Wars Story" films Solo (2018) and then Rogue One (2016) - and yes, they are in "reverse release order", but that's okay cos Solo is a kind of "origin story" of Han and Chewie, and Rogue One goes directly into Episode IV (the first movie). Finally, you can delve into the 3rd trilogy, Episodes VII, VIII, and IX.

Not just this movie. Not even just this trilogy. He's the main character of the whole 9-movie "Skywalker Saga" cycle. The crawling text at the beginning is his narration. (Luke is the *hero* of the OT but Star Wars wouldn't be the first story to be told from a supporting character's POV. And over the nine movies, the hero changes, but the *main protagonist* is always R2)

    1. Sir. Alec Guinness/Obi-Wan didn't want the part. Being a Shakespearian actor, he thought the entire idea was silly and was beneath him, but his wife talked him into taking the part.
    2. The shrug Chewy gives Luke after he scares the tiny black droid is 🤣
    3. These movies were put out in a certain order because there was limited technology and Lucas used and pushed forward the images needed to make a quality product. The best way to watch the is in the order they came out. We had to wait years for the next one. There was no internet where we had access to them whenever we wanted.
    4. No need to go into anything after VI. Disney took over and the quality dropped. I realize you have to.
    5. The only CGI was put in for the 25th anniversary package in this film are the critters the stormtroopers were riding at the beginning of the search for the robots, a couple of the huge critters outside the pub, the scene with Jabba the Hutt and other minor changes. Those were put in later after CGI was available. Otherwise, everything is what we had in 1977.
    6. Obi-Wan sacrificed himself after he told Vader he would be stronger than ever. He went back into the force. He knows it's Luke's job to take over.
    7. The awkwardness in the detention space is because Ford didn't know his lines. It was kept in the movie anyway because it worked.
    8. IMVHO the next two are the best of the series. Enjoy

Welcome to the SW universe! It's not hard to recreate the scene at 20:01-- I did it once. You will need the stormtrooper figures, the dewbacks, sand and an escape pod and lastly a blue white background for the sky; as Vader would say most impressive

Speaking of Buzz Lightyear and the Star Wars franchise, George had tried to sell Star Wars to Universal Studios and The Walt Disney Company. Both companies turned him down. That is fairly obvious, since no Disney or Universal Studios logos are shown before the movie. I just think Disney turning the movie down in the early to mid 70’s is a pretty wild story considering their purchase of the franchise decades later.

So many things happened in the 70-90's! Release order, as it was made. Lots of CGI added 20 or so years later, you can tell which ones. so 1977, 80, 83, then 99, 2001, 2003 (Should be correct).
    Remember R5-D4 (red droid)
    R2-D2 - Kenny Baker.
This movie changed how movie are made. John Williams composed for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, many more blockbusters.

Imperial gunners are on a point system. Shooting something that doesn't lead to a kill would would lower their Shots/Kill ratio is why they didn't shoot the escape pod.

When R2-D2 and C-3PO walk across the corridor while the storm troopers are shooting, everyone assumes the storm troopers couldn’t hit anything. When in actuality, there’s such good shots, they were aiming at the people with the guns and not the droids.. see that makes sense to me, but everyone always assumes that they’re terrible shots even when later on in the movie, Obi-Wan Kenobi talks about how precise the blasts were on the jaw crawler and only storm troopers could be that precise.

    • @ronweber1402
      @ronweber1402 หลายเดือนก่อน

Ya then in the rest of the movies the Storm Troopers couldn't hit anything if they were standing 4 feet away from it. Now the reasoning I've heard is that the Empire, while prolific, was also cheap. Cheap, mass produced weapons that were inaccurate or prone to malfunction and substandard training relying more on fear and multitudinous forces doing the work rather than expertise and superior technology. Looking at it now it is eerily similar to Russia's strategy in Ukraine.

Nope, no convincing needed -- I absolutely believe this girl hasn't seen the original Star Wars yet. What I don't believe is that she has any interest in seeing it here. This is her job now, so she's doing it for money. Because of course she is. In eight seconds you can tell this girl can name every last Kardashian, and not a single PM in her own government. We get what we deserve on TH-cam.
