I don't know if you've ever heard of Cilla Black but, she was a great friend to all the bands that played in Liverpool in the late 1950's and early 1960's. She had the same manager as The Beatles. I thought you might like to hear three of her tracks, "Anyone Who Had A Heart." "You're My World." and "Step Inside Love." There's also a Don Williams track to listen to. "Tears Of The Lonely."
One of the singers Elvis lived to hear as a young man was Roy Hamilton. Hamilton had a hit with this as well as Unchained Melody ten years earlier in 1955. Roy was a black artist with an operatic voice and was one of the first black artists to top the pop charts.
THE VERSION of this song is by Patty Labelle and the Bluebelles. The live performance in a theatre in Brooklyn in 1965 (black and white video) is the greatest live performance I have ever seen.

The ME told Bill without surgery he couldn't see him surviving the month. He never got to do that show; he died in his sleep the night before.
