Great reaction, Lizzy! Dusty is British and was a star during the British Invasion with big, dramatic hits like You Don't Have To Say You Love Me. Son of a Preacher Man was from arguably her best album, 1969's Dusty In Memphis, recorded with crack soul musicians. The entire album is a masterpiece. She fell off the charts soon thereafter, but kept making great records well into the '70s. She left us much too soon. Great singer.
Dusty Springfield has an extensive catalogue, some of her tracks which I recommend are: "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me", "I Close My Eyes and Count to Ten", "Wishin' and Hopin'", "Spooky", "I Only Want to Be With You", "If You Go Away", "The Look of Love", "You Don't Own Me", "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself", "Little By Little", "Am I the Same Girl", "Just a Little Lovin'", "Goin' Back", "In the Middle of Nowhere", "Nothing Has Been Proved" with 'The Pet Shop Boys', "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" with 'The Pet Shop Boys'. There are many more but these are great ones to continue with.
Absolutely wonderful reaction! Dusty's vocals never disappoint, EVER. Here are some more Dusty suggestions per your request Liz: I Only Want To Be With You; Wishin' And Hopin'; You Don't Have To Say You Love Me; and of course you must react to THE LOOK OF LOVE. Thanks again for this reaction Liz and to your mom for requesting Dusty!
Dusty Springfield did one of my favorite covers of "Look Of Love". Your reaction to "Son Of A Preacher Man" has the animated joy I feel when this washes thoroughly over me, Lizzie. You really expressed those lyrics with the emphasis on "her man gotta have some Christ".
A MUST HEAR Classic track + incredibly beautiful vocals + A HUGE HIT when released = Rose Royce "I'm Going Down"..TRUST ME on this one my music lovin' sister!! 🔥 ❤🔥
Dusty (Mary O'Brien) was one of the greatest singers ever. Was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame shortly after her passing. Other very good songs: You don't have to Say you Love Me, I only Wanna Be With You, A Brand New Me, Wishing and Hoping and more.
That whole album is incredibly good. She did a lot of Carole King covers, the best of which is I Can't Make It Alone, where you will feel your soul be crushed when she sings the word "soul."
Dusty (Mary O'Brien) was one of the greatest singers ever. Many very good songs Others here have provided her great songs. A Brand New Me gets overlooked, great song. Also like Linda Ronstadt does covers as good or better than the original singer. Got into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame shortly after her passing, she surely deserved it.
In the mid-70's at the height of his notoriety, I went to see Alice Cooper in concert, part oif his Billion Dollar Babies tour. I was a kid. It was crazy. Before the band came out, the lights went off and this song by Dusty played from the speakers. For all his crazy and horror and darkness and pretend-evil rock lifetsyle our dear Alice himself was the son of a preacher man. Love him and Dusty to this very day. Love to you too Lizzie!
What's going on Liz? Love that song very soulful, way to go Mom! Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien (Dusty Springfield "her stage name") believe it or not an English singer! died in 1999 of brest cancer, she was 59yrs! Thank Mom again, haven't heard that song in ages! Alright my dear take care and stay safe! Vide Squad Out!
The British Invasion of the mid-1960s included several female singers like Dusty. In addition to her other songs in the previous comments, I'd suggest you check out Petula Clark ("Downtown") and Lulu ("To Sir, with Love").
A lesser-known but great Dusty track is her cover of Carole King's " Some of Your Lovin' " th-cam.com/video/WgTYdwrrFLo/w-d-xo.html . But Dusty (real name Mary O'Brien) left a Folk/Country trio she formed with her brother Dion (aka Tom Springfield) in order to pursue her first love, Soul and R&B. They called themselves the Springfields because it sounded American and had just scored their biggest hit, 'Island of Dreams', th-cam.com/video/rhF-Mqn-HEQ/w-d-xo.html when she left to branch out on her own having been influenced by, in her own words, "those great girl singers at Tamla Motown". Dion carried on as a songwriter and, as Tom Springfield, wrote most of the hits recorded by Australian folk quartet, the Seekers.
Hello Lizzie!. Dusty was a UK icon. Here are two suggestions for you! (you don’t have to say you love me.) And ( I only want to be with you! ) I look forward to hearing them. cheers,❤👍

So shocked to only recently discovered she was a Brit!! No trace of the accent in this tune, as far as I can hear.
She was a part of the British Invasion as well as Petula Clark, Cilia Black, Shirley Bassey
Dusty and her SOULFUL VOICE@!
More Dusty:
"I Don't Want to Hear It Anymore"
"The Windmills of Your Mind"
"I’ve Been Wrong Before"

good advice
A more unusual, but great, track by her is "If you go away" - actually a translated version of a French song. Real soul !
Smokey smooth Dusty Springfield. Nice reaction to a great old song Liz 🎉
As smooth, as butter.
This whole album will blow your mind. Such a fantastic singer.
Dusty Springfield a classic Great singer

Lotta peoples with heritage from the "Old Sod" sang with that soul sound! Van Morrison, Dusty etc.
This music is from when I was a kid. I huddled around the AM radio. Thanks for 'reacting', sending love
Try "You Don't have to Say You Love Me"
The British Invasion of the mid-1960s included several female singers like Dusty. In addition to her other songs in the previous comments, I'd suggest you check out Petula Clark ("Downtown") and Lulu ("To Sir, with Love").
Lulu was from Scotland. I love her voice. Oh me Oh My is very good also , gets overlooked
@Scott - Cilla Black was hot in the 60s. P.P. Arnold was working out of England in the 1960s.
Love it!!!
Hi Lizzie, Your Mom has great taste in music and it is evident that she knows good soul music!!!
Don't overlook her incredible version of "The Look of Love." It's been covered by a lot of people, but her version was the best.
Good stuff, Liz! 🙏😊❤️

All great suggestions from everyone, but especially "The Look of Love" and the more obscure "I've Been Wrong Before" (IMHO).

Stax Soul sound.
You should have your mother on with you she sounds great
Aretha Franklin turned actually down that song so they gave it to Dusty. It became her signature tune.
Listen to your Mom Lizzie! She knows best.
