Hi Oli, you bring me back to 25 years ago when I was working in Xiamen, a fantastic memory. Xiamen was an unique beautiful city then but it's unbelievablly you can find beautiful places everywhere in China.
Such a beautiful island! Would love to see you do more videos on churches, temples and mosques in China though. They are everywhere all across China and rarely get much coverage!
This is a place in China I have never heard of. Glad you brought it to my attention. The next time I am in China I would like to try to visit the island.
Ooh I like this place and it is very nice. Those villa’s are really opulent and very beautiful. I wish I could spend time staying in some of those beautiful villa’s. The rental of those villa’s are beyond my budget really. Beautiful places, great weather, good food and wonderful music scene too. I recommend everyone to at least visit this place once.
Guangzhou Shamian is another area in mainland China that gives you an exotic feeling. It used to host many foreign diplomatic missions. Now, Polish consulate general is still there.
I’ve seen a couple of other vlogs on Gulangyu one of which is Jason’s but I love yours especially the aerial views. Wish you could have done more of the aerial of the island. Still very enjoyable thanks Oli.
The Chinese name of the Island is actually "The Billow of the Drums", so I guess it is more like an old time name describing the geographic location before the arrival of the foreign occupation. Thanks for sharing and you are amazing!
@@lnic178 it does mean island. Yu which is 屿 means islet/small island. So the full name Gu Lang Yu (鼓🥁 浪🌊 屿)means island/islet of drum wave/billow. Ps. the name of drum wave always reminds me of sound waves in concerts.
Another amazing place. Thanks for bringing that to us. Isn't this island also quite close to Kinmen County, Taiwan ? I believe there is also a ferry service between Xiamen and Kinmen ?
I'm Chinese, of course I can speak English, or Chinese English, or English with Chinese characteristics. my accent is chinaccent. do I know the culture of the English language ? if there is such a thing, whatever that means. Hi, thanks again, Oli, for showing another interesting part of China. Your deep masculine voice makes the commentary enjoyable. Would you care to sing a few lines of the Chinese song 🎤when appropriate in your future video clips? 😄This clip is under 15 mins and I really appreciate it because I'm sharing it with my friends and relatives. Well done! Take care, keep up the good work. 🙏Jeremy 趙耀勝(赵耀胜)
I've been living on this beautiful island for five years ,Gulangyu like My second home. It's really nice to see every streets and buildings from your version.Thank you sooooo much for let me go back again (Because of Covid “stuck”in another country)
Wow your pronunciation for certain chinese words are spot on! How long have you been in china! lol 'you got hard workers like this man over here, just absolutely doing bits everyday'😂
Thanks for introducing Gulangyu. I want to add something--while Western people built many of the earliest churches and consulates, most of the more sophisticated buildings on the island were built by overseas Chinese with a mix of European, Southern Min, and Southeastern architectural designs.
I’ve been to Gulangyu four times over ten years. It’s a lovely place, though sadly it gets worse every time. Last visit was two years ago shortly before Covid and I noticed a real decline in the maintenance of some of the buildings, most notably on the western side of the island where fewer tourists visit. Of course, the eastern side is crowded because it’s touristy. I’d still recommend it as a place to visit but go out of season when it’s quiet and/or stay overnight. Oh, another thing that annoys me now: You used to be able to take the ferry across the narrow channel for 5rmb a trip. Now only locals are allowed and tourists have to pay 20x that for a tourist cruise that takes half an hour at least. This sucks.
I’m curious about the boat you took actually. It might be a seasonal thing or maybe a post-covid policy, but the last two times I went tourists had to go from a different port on the western side of Xiamen island and were forbidden from using the five minute ferry across the channel which you seem to have done here. The cost was also more than 35rmb I’m sure and you had to book a specific boat like a train, with a fixed time. If you missed it, you had to book again. I wonder why it was different for you.
I went to this place 2 times. You can also swim there if you go at summer. Very peaceful place. There is also a Turkish ice cream shop. This island has art schools. 😊
I live in Quanzhou and got to go over to Xiamen for a day trip last year and visited Gulangyu for a few hours. It's so nice and peaceful there. I hope you get a chance to visit some of the attractions over here. There aren't a ton of TH-cam videos about Quanzhou, and I really feel like it's underappreciated.
Taking sugar or rather sweat cakes etc without enough magnesium to neutralize the bad effects will lead us more vulnerable to cancer growth in our body. Some doctors who have studied integrative medicine ie allopathic medicine plus naturopathic medicine will know this and that magnesium is one of the elixirs God has given us. There are many forms of magnesium, and magnesium bisglycinate or glycinate is one of the best forms. Magnesium cannot stand alone and it has to be combined with another element. Good luck to Lee !
