You do what help you function day to day. Even minute to minute. I read scriptures. The best way to help with your depression is to go out of your way to help someone else. Yes I know, how are supposed to do that depressed?
      Start small, make yourself. Just a simple phone call to ask how someone else is doing. Bring someone some cookies or bread. Practice being nice to everyone you come in contact with even if it takes all your effort. It will eventually help keep you “ even.”

    I fostered a stray Husky for a few months that showed up at the golf course I was working at. I put a lost & found ad in the local paper hoping I would find the owner but never did. Let me tell you, there is never a dull moment living with a husky! The amount of hair was like nothing I've ever seen before (I've only owned standard poodles lol). I did eventually find a good forever home for her (I was living in a small townhouse at the time), as a retired couple that had a large property and had owned huskies before agreed to take her.

    Thank you so much for these videos! I rescued a husky (approximately 9 mos old at the time) on June 7, 2023. She had been abandoned on a logging road, captured, and sent to an overcrowded animal control facility. Her previous owners had not taken care of her spring blowout, so she was a matted mess. After adoption fees, vaccinations, spaying, and other veterinary care, I could not afford to have her professionally groomed. Thanks to your videos, I knew what essential tools I needed to take out the matted mess. She is what I have been told is a split coat husky. Her coat is naturally short and smooth in some areas and wooly in others. The initial groom took me 3 hours (with 2 breaks). Once groomed, I have been able to maintain her coat throughout the summer, and the autumn blowout only too 2 hours (with 1 break). Thank you for explaining what you do and why so clearly. Without your videos to learn from, I would have ended up shaving my Taimyr and making a choppy mess of things.

      @@TheNinnyfee My granfather was a master zoologist working for the forestry department. As a result, I had a remarkable childhood full of animals. I helped take care of orphaned deer and foxes. He had a 3-legged racoon as a pet. He had child sized protective equipment made so I could learn to handle poisonous snakes (I held the body while he milked them and sent the venom to a lab to make anitvenin) and injured, wild animals. Love of animals was instilled young. Responsibility for taking care of them was instilled young. When I saw her picture in a local social media group, I could not let her die. I wanted to take every single cat and dog home with me, but I couldn't. So, I saved one, and she is amazing. In 4 months, she has learned that when I come home with groceries, she does not get attention until they are put away. She runs into the kitchen and opens the refrigerator door (but she never raids the fridge) for me. I can hand her the toilet paper, and she will take it to the bathroom and place it next to the toilet without ripping it up. I didn't train her to do these things. She just does them on her own so she can play with me after. I have 3 other dogs that are her pack, and seeing them when I come home from work is the best part of my day.

    Vanessa comments about the dogs being able to sense if you're stressed is SO true.
    If I've had a rought time getting to my shift at doggy daycare, I get into the kitchen/room where we leave our stuff, and after I get ready I have to take a couple of deep calming breaths, shake it off, and get going.
    Working with dogs takes a lot of patience, and if you don't have it one day, it WILL spiral. If the dogs are feeling the stress radiating off of you, they will act differently.
    Bless my favorite daycare dogs, both have them have ended up hanging out by my feet and guarding me from other dogs on days that I'm not feeling well, and letting me pet them the whole time. I would kill and die for them, but they can't be guarding things and I need to walk and get to other dogs to do my job 😂

    25 years ago I had a female Malamute named Sassy and a male Huskie Wolf mix named Sam . They both were characters ! Both were great dogs , but they were hard headed and loved to argue with you . Both would watch over my 3 girls and my wife , inside the house or outside . Door bell ring , they were there to always stand between the girls and whoever was at the door ! Outside the same thing , they were the bouncers and were checking ID's You didn't come in unless they knew you or we said it was alright . Anyway in the spring they both would get a big brushing . We had a kennel for them in the backyard , backyard was also fenced in with an inground pool . My wife would sit in the kennel and give them a thorough brushing for hours . She would put hand fulls of fur in the kennel's fence holes . We would watch birds and even squirrels gather the fur up for their nest . I'm pretty sure they all had warm homes . Summer time they would stay in the house , because if you've had huskies or malamutes . You know how much they loved the heat !!! Sassy died of cancer at 13 and Sam died from loneliness 2 weeks later at 12 !!

    Something I find that works well with a dog that doesn't want nozzle used for de-shedding....while coat is soaped up or with lots of conditioner (depending of dogs coat/skin) use a slicker brush. It collects the hair in soapy clumps that you can just toss in trash as it is collected.

    • @Hi_Im_Akward
      @Hi_Im_Akward 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +71

      Yes! This works great for the hairy beasts, just can't get too over zealous because both the skin and hair is more vulnerable when wet and it's a lot easier to brush burn them and with longer haired dogs like newfies, you can break and damage the coat.

    • @katiedotson704
      @katiedotson704 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I do this even with my short haired dogs. On long haired dogs I had in the past, I would start off with a comb that had wide set teeth, like the comb used toward the end of this video, then graduate to a dematting rake. This was done methodically, looking for mats or other problem areas. I would go back to the comb during the rinse, Keep in mind that the goal is to remove loose hair, not to pluck the dog bald.
      When a dog has managed to find something hideous or greasy to roll in, I start off with Dawn Dish Detergent, avoiding the face and eyes. I use a human grade conditioner that is also soothing to the skin and has no perfumes or dyes.
      While this has worked for me with both dogs and horses for over 25 years, that is not to say that I don't learn a lot by watching this channel. I certainly do.

    • @carolinacoreas7716
      @carolinacoreas7716 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I used to do that with my spitz mix who tends to get an impacted coat when it blows, but I got scared that doing this while his coat is wet may damage his coat because wet hair breaks easier. The great thing is, he has never had matting, he just gets a ton of impacted coat that I can spend hours pulling out by hand or by just taking like an hour to brush it out with a slicker brush.
      What I do now is, I brush his coat prior to giving him a bath. I find it helps get the soap deep into the undercoat. It takes away excess hair that can float on the surface of the coat, and in the long run, it makes his bath last shorter which is good for him because he hates baths and gets cold easily.

She was an amazing. beautiful, funny, adorable, extremely intelligent, manipulative, gorgeous, loyal, sweet-as-pie little girl. She looked like a fox with all the Sheltie markings and a curled Pomeranian tail, my 18lb "Golden Sheltie" would never take her eyes off of me and she was the fasted dog I'd ever seen. She was a Lady through and through, and had such a lovely singing voice. She was a good listener too and so very well-behaved, but she did have certain peculiarities. For one, she would never allow me to brush her without making my neighbors think I was hacking her to pieces. Though, of course, her groomers always reported her to be a Good Girl.

    Skylar was acting very similar to my cranky old husky. If they don't want to do something, they will do everything in their power to not do it, including acting as if they are going to nip. What I've found that works is to have a second person to love on the dog to distract them, also allowing an older dog to lay down and get comfortable tends to help as well. Their mindset goes from "there is no way I am doing this" to "ok, I don't like this, but this is tolerable"

    Honestly, just... so much respect here. I spent a hot minute working as a dog bather almost 20 years ago, and currently have two huskies at home. They are SO difficult! I won't even take them to groomers; they're hard enough with people and environments they know and love that I don't want to subject the groomers to them. One hates all brushes ever, and the other screams and bites at anything touching his claws (not his paws, those are fine. just claws). They love to play and romp in water, but even that might be a challenge around strangers.

Her fur was like a huskie’s too; fur coming out in handfuls in the summer. But she was yellow. So maybe she was huskie and golden retriever? I’ll never know, but she was a great dog for a kid like me.

      I had what I’m pretty sure was a Yellow Lab-Husky mix, Goldie. All yellow gold color. She never howled, but her coat was a Husky type coat, and she shed like a Husky. I found her on the road, and she was the best girl.

      Shepherds can be, er, musical, too. My mom's GSD has a groany lower pitched almost howl for when he's especially enjoying a pet or having an itchy spot scratched and a yodel (for lack of a better descriptor) for when when he's distressed (eg with bathing or if his supper is taking too long and he becomes convinced he's dying). One of the videos on either this channel or the original includes a GSD who "sings" throughout his unwanted bath.

    I really enjoy the uncontrolled laughing. What a beautiful busy life you both have chosen for yourselves. Keep doing the same exact thing that has brought you to where you are now. From my perspective you are both brave and courageous for living the best life you can, and saving lots of animals.

    She had a lot of unprintable comments/lyrics lol... She certainly wasn't the worst but she was definitely being a pill. Climbing up to do her nails is dedication, indeed. You always do a good job "reading" your clients, be they cat or dog. Never thought I'd be watching grooming vids but enjoy the dry humor and how you deal with all the different fur-face personalities. Subscribed here, as well and happy to help out. Thanks for sharing

    Compared to some of the Huskies you have groomed, she was really well-behaved! She also didn't to deafen you (too much!). She really is an absolutely beautiful dog. I love her face and ears.

    I don't know much about huskies, but it seem like even though they like to howl a lot, they hardly ever growl?
    Also, I love how when you said, "We're going to go outside", her ears immediately perked up and she was like, "What groom? I get to go outside!" :D

      Had huskies for 30 years, none of them were really vocal, and rarely growled. All dogs of any breed are individuals, and none act exactly the same 😊

      I almost never hear them really bark either. I have heard huskies growl but it usually is a variation of howl tones more than a normal growl sounds.

    • @tay13666
      @tay13666 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      Trust me, they growl. And it sounds kind of vicious and scary when they do.
      But I've only heard it when they are playing with each other. It sounds like they are going to kill each other when they snarl, growl and mouth. But they don't seem to ever actually hurt each other. They play rough and seem to revel in it.
      The scariest thing is their strength. You don't realize just how strong they are until you stop petting them and they grab your arm with one of their shovel-paws and pull it back to them for you to keep petting. And if they wrap both front paws around your arm, you aren't getting it back until they are satisfied with the amount of pets.

    I like how she very clearly has mixed feelings about the blow dryer. Most of the time shes the typical husky just screaming in protest but other times it seemed like she was leaning into it like "oh actually thats really good" 😅😅😅

    I have missed this version of Canada's Got Talent!: the Husky opera and tap dance competition! Skyler was a very good girl, considering how (apparently) new and unwelcome getting groomed is for her. (I also like how her very light colored eyes give her a semi-permanent "Why is this happening to me?!" expression.)
