      Yes it makes for such a simple and great meal. You can also add some pickles and have it with rice. Rice dhal and pickles might seem a plain meal but sometimes is exactly what you need to hit the spot!

    I saw your dhall video. I want to boil and freeze. I want to know must the dhall break in pieces or be firm for freezing. Please let me know. I watch your videos and cook. My food comes out perfect. Thank u so much.

      We boil the dhal until it is soft and then freeze it, which results in smoother dhal when we braise it. Leaving it firm means it will remain grainy after defrosting and cooking.

      If we are boiling larger quantities of dhal we don't add the salt and hurdee and we boil it until the dhal is cooked. We then make smaller portions and freeze them. When we are braising we pop a portion into the pot and add a little bit of water and it will melt. When it comes to a boil again we braise just like this video.

    is it the finished dahl you freeze in portions or did you just mean the cooked yellow split peas you freeze in portions ?

      We freeze dhal that we boil. So we boil the dhal with the hurdee and sometimes with salt. And we freeze that.

      Dhal will thicken as it stands and cools. The trick is to make it weaker if you not going to consume all on the day.

      Hi it is Yellow Split peas. I think the Indian name would be Matar Dal but not sure on that one. It’s none of the 3 you mention though.
