Sickle Weed Yeah this franchise has Star wars prequel stench all over it. Any bets they’re going to have a subplot on the origin of crookshanks and how Mr Lovegood’s newspaper came to be in the new movie?
I agree with everything said in this video. I've been a huge Harry Potter fan for a long time, I LOVED the first Fantastic Beast movie. However, Crimes of Grindelwald made no sense and was devoid of any fun. One of the things I love about JK Rowling in her original books and on Pottermore is that she is so consistent with her world-building and timeline, but all of that fell apart in this movie.
Alright, I'm gonna go ahead and guess the next batch of Honest Trailers. 3/19 − Aquaman 3/26 − Dumbo (1941) 4/2 − Bumblebee 4/9 − Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 4/16 − Glass 4/23 − The Avengers (1998) 4/30 − Ralph Breaks the Internet 5/7 − Pokémon: The First Movie 5/14 − John Wick: Chapter 2 5/21 − Aladdin II: The Return of Jafar 5/28 − The 1954 Toho Godzilla film (and/or its 1956 American dub called _Godzilla, King of the Monsters!_ ) 6/4 − Alita: Battle Angel 6/11 − Men in Black 6/18 − Toy Story 2 6/25 − Captain Marvel (300th episode!) Let's come back here in a few months and see how many of these were right.
I think the 2/4 (day goes 1st) one could be the Shazam tv show for the movie, and for Pokemon they will do a couple of the movies and same with Aladdin they will do both the direct to dvd films and maybe some of the tv show.
We should've expected this, Yates had the most depressing Harry Potter movies. I wish...I wish Alfonso Cuaron could direct these, Azkaban was the right mix of joy and sad
Minor nitpick. Hermione did not use the same spell on her parents as the thing that erased memories in the first Fantastic Beasts. She used Obliviate which is basically the spell version of the neuralizers from MIB
Grindlewald is more of a wizard Stalin than Hitler. Voldemort's got the Hitler thing covered. The Swooping Evil potion (extract) that Newt uses to wipe the memories of everyone in the first movie is not the same as the Obliviate spell. Newt states it can be used for erasing bad memories when he's extracting it early in the movie. (Not done watching the video yet but it bugs me that you'd get that wrong)
It's still silly writing because he needed to erase/obliviate the memories of all the people in New York who witnessed the magic at the end of the film. But while many people might have been scared or confused, it's likely at least a few of them would have been filled with wonder or happiness that such magic/beauty exists in the world so their memories would have been intact (and it's stupid for Newt to assume that all the muggles would only have bad memories of the event in the first place). So that means there are plenty of muggles walking around who are now fully aware that magic/wizards exist.
@@razzle2429 agreed. The people they showed all seemed to be a scared but there could be some Jacobs running around with partial memories. Even he forgot and only remembered subconsciously until Queenie showed up. I'd blame MACUSA for being uncharacteristically lazy to let Newt do what he did but the movie can only cover so much. It's semi-irrelevant to the plot to know if they are just keeping tabs on muggle chatter about events that were supposed to be forgotten in case the need to fully Obliviate them.
Just a small note, but what was used in the first movie to erase everyone's memories was not the spell obliviate from the books. Newt used venom from one of his creatures which he talked about earlier in the movie. He actually explained then that it was for removing bad memories. That being said, it's still terrible, because it is inconsistent: not erasing memories of wizards out in the rain, erasing memories of people not out in the rain, how does the venom discriminate between which bad memories it erases, and what about the people who saw the magic and thought it was cool (not frightening)?
@@gellertgrindelwald5891 go buy another scarf Gellert. Oh and i know your wizard hitler and everything. Still though how could you let Johnny Depp play you. A no talent hack that beats his wife. I mean he does the same thing in every role. Even wizard hitler should be annoyed with the casting

Thanks for including Spencer! (I miss him. I wish him a good and restful time with his baby) I didn't watched the first movie, so I was shocked that to find out that Newt's brother and Leda weren't in the first movie at all. Secondly - I totally missed the fact that Grindwald could have just let the double go to prison and went along with his plan and this would change nothing. If you do cut things, leave them here. Some things are too good to be left unseen.
Queenie's character pissed me off so much. Film one portrays her to be empathetic, resourceful, and level-headed. Film 2 overhauls that and makes her irrational, selfish, and inconsiderate with no context. She knows how bad Grindelwald is, why join him? She knows that Jacob loves her, why enchant and kidnap him to England? When Tina is in danger she quickly saves them with as much calm as possible, so why after leaving Jacob and failing to find Tina cause her to break down in the middle of the street?! She's been a Legilimens her whole life and now all of a sudden she can't seem to hold back anyone's emotions/thoughts?! WHAT!?!
It's so weird that she would put an enchantment on ANYONE because she can read minds. Even if she initially thought it was a good idea, wouldn't she be able to read Jacob's mind and be horrified at just how much the enchantment has destroyed his thoughts and personality? And wouldn't she be able to read Grindelwald's mind and realize he's full of crap and will most likely kill Jacob/other muggles.
I feel like there is much too much hate on for this. There were redeemable points to it, the creature design was on point and when the creature moments that happened were magical. I agree the Queenie twist was stupid, and the Dumbledore twist at the end I still don’t know how I feel about. I would still argue it was better than Chamber of Secrets which I hate with a firey passion.
Next weeks trailer was mentioned in this trailer? Oh better go watch the trailer now then brb;) Edit ok I’m back maybe aquaman? Bohemian rhapsody maybe spiderverse?( tho don’t think that was mentioned)
Just finished Lethal White and it was great. Funny how she is able to portray a "will they or won't they" relationship better in her Strike books than her HP books.
@@MyssBlewm Yea, most of the relationships like that in Harry Potter feel pretty childish. Which kinda makes sense, I guess, since for most of the books they were kids.
The one bad thing about Marvel is, they did their job so good in creating a cinematic universe, that EVERYONE thinks they can do it; and so far, everyone else has failed. Whatever they are paying Kevin Feige, they need to double it. Just because a series was good, doesn't mean you need to then go and try to milk every aspect of it for a movie. If you do, people see that, and you will fail.
I hated almost everything about this movie. One more thing about the terrible and logically impossible thing done to Queenie and Jacob: Queenie can't help hearing other people's thoughts. In the first movie she has a loving, generous character and can see the truth of a person's motivations. So now we are supposed to believe that she would destroy Jacob's will, making him a confused slave. Now this sweet mind reader glues herself to the worst people in the world, who constantly lie and would murder Jacob. The Queenie we knew in the first movie would never crush Jacob like that and would have seen through and loathed Grindelwald and his followers instantly. I despise what was done to these characters and so much else in this movie. It reveals something disturbing about Rowling, that she would make these decisions and neither see how wrong they are nor listen to honest criticism.
Hermione I think used a spell on her parents to make them forget if she existed. Newt I think used potion from one of his animals sweeping evil to make people of new york forget the day's events. Also Newt mentioned it is capable to remove ones bad memories in the 1st one
Yes thats right; I might be wrong but i think Newt said something like if made correctly it is capable of only removing bad memory. You can make the case that sweeping evil might have not worked correctly but luckily it did.
I've never been into Harry Potter, but listening to this description of this movie sounds like Zack Snyder directed it lol. Where is the Snyder cut of Fantastic Beasts?

"...drain them of all joy and fun and laughter".... and wizard robes! Considering that wizards don't know how to dress like Muggles, this is the best dressed and tweedy (and dreary) group of wizards. #SlytherinPride
they should’ve casted a young dumbledore and a young grindelwald and tell their story for 3 movies max. would’ve been very interesting since dumbledores past raised a lot of questions in the book. but no they abused the character of newt scarmander who’s completely unnecessary for their story and put in some CGI monsters so the title makes sense and they could stretch it out for 5 movies.
Yeah, the Grindelwald story should have had Dumbledore as the protagonist since Dumbledore has the most investment in Grindelwald's story and we (as the audience) have the most investment in Dumbledore since we got to know him over the span of the Harry Potter books/movies. There's no reason Newt should even be a part of any of this. He seems like the sort of guy who'd be halfway across the world trying to rescue magical creatures from a cruel wizard zoo, helping a town that is being attacked by a dragon without having to harm/kill it, or discovering new species of creatures in the deepest darkest African jungles.

Sickle Weed Yeah this franchise has Star wars prequel stench all over it. Any bets they’re going to have a subplot on the origin of crookshanks and how Mr Lovegood’s newspaper came to be in the new movie?
@@PoojaPatel-mj7pz Honestly, who knows at this point. Since JKR still has control over the next 3 movies, it's really up to what she plans to cover.
Joe's beard hated this movie so much apparently it ran away.
Joe is a 9 year old confirmed.
3/19 − Aquaman
3/26 − Dumbo (1941)
4/2 − Bumblebee
4/9 − Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
4/16 − Glass
4/23 − The Avengers (1998)
4/30 − Ralph Breaks the Internet
5/7 − Pokémon: The First Movie
5/14 − John Wick: Chapter 2
5/21 − Aladdin II: The Return of Jafar
5/28 − The 1954 Toho Godzilla film (and/or its 1956 American dub called _Godzilla, King of the Monsters!_ )
6/4 − Alita: Battle Angel
6/11 − Men in Black
6/18 − Toy Story 2
6/25 − Captain Marvel (300th episode!)
Let's come back here in a few months and see how many of these were right.
Don't they wait for the Blu-Ray release of the movie before making the Honest Trailer? Is Into the Spider-Verse Blu-Ray out yet?
@@ethanjones1327 I feel bad he had to watch Dark Shadows
I think the 2/4 (day goes 1st) one could be the Shazam tv show for the movie, and for Pokemon they will do a couple of the movies and same with Aladdin they will do both the direct to dvd films and maybe some of the tv show.
U were right about Aquaman 😁
I'm so so SO happy to see Danielle in this Honest Trailer Commentary!!!
More Danielle Radford content please.
I lost it at "the greater good"! Hot fuzz is one of my favorites. Thanks for the laugh. 😆
Glad to see Danielle on the Commentary!!!!
I CAUGHT THE SOLANGE REFERENCE
I was really expecting “Warner Brothers and the Crimes of Rowling” for the last title screen honestly.
We should've expected this, Yates had the most depressing Harry Potter movies. I wish...I wish Alfonso Cuaron could direct these, Azkaban was the right mix of joy and sad
@Harry O'Driscoll yeah, I agree, I just thought they weren't as nicely edited and put together as Azkaban
Have not liked a single one of Yates' HP films.
Azkaban broke my heart and made it soar. I love all the books and everything but that was my fav movie.
Great casual Bunnicula reference Joe Starr. And Dan Murrell is elevating us with references to classic literature. Well done both of you!
As a certain wise man would say, the Aquaman Honest Trailer is gonna be tight!
Are*
Cactus Jones 2.0 Ah, is that what the pirates sound like?
It'll probably be super easy to make, barely an inconvenience
7:35: "Bunniculaed"? God bless you, Joe. You just became my favorite nerd on the planet. Well done.
Great commentary, great trailer, terrible movie. Though usually, the best honest trailers are for the worst movies! Love it!
Minor nitpick. Hermione did not use the same spell on her parents as the thing that erased memories in the first Fantastic Beasts. She used Obliviate which is basically the spell version of the neuralizers from MIB
Yay! Danielle, this will be fun!! :D Just wanted to comment before watching the show ;)
Grindlewald is more of a wizard Stalin than Hitler.
Rowling has seemed real quiet about the future of the Fantastic Beasts lately...I wonder why...?
As per WB she is working hard on FB3 script. maybe that's why
This movie is just.... depressing. Even my infinite love for the Harry Potter books can't save it for me.... :(
It's the first time I almost fell asleep during a HP movie...twice...and wanted to walk out. I felt so sad that it was such a disappointment.
Danielle was killin it today 🔥🔥🔥
“I don’t even know about Fantastic Beasts, or where one might find them”
Just a small note, but what was used in the first movie to erase everyone's memories was not the spell obliviate from the books.
Oof anyone remember how excited Spencer and Roth were for this movie? Seriously they were SOOOO pumped it just hurts me now.
Fantastic Beasts and How to Destroy a Franchise
Fantastic beasts and please stop moaning
@@gellertgrindelwald5891 go buy another scarf Gellert. Oh and i know your wizard hitler and everything. Still though how could you let Johnny Depp play you. A no talent hack that beats his wife. I mean he does the same thing in every role. Even wizard hitler should be annoyed with the casting
21pilots tillidie he was just proven innocent..Amber Heard used metoo to destroy Johnny Depps career. Have some research
@@gellertgrindelwald5891 what? He was not just proven innocent dummy. He filed a defamation lawsuit against her. In what world does that make him innocent? Instead of telling me to do research you should follow your own advice. As at this point you're the one that is just making shit up. Also even putting aside his domestic abuse. He is still a wannabe rock star that can't act. He hasn't had a decent acting role in years and he is beyond terrible in Fantastic Beasts. If you can't admit that then you must be Doug Stanhope.
Yes Danielle is here!! Love you Danielle 😘
Is the *MAGIC* of the Harry Potter Universe gone?
All of this and more on Honest Trailer Commentaries, NOW!
The Magic gathered to Wizards of the Coast.
Thanks for including Spencer! (I miss him. I wish him a good and restful time with his baby)
I didn't watched the first movie, so I was shocked that to find out that Newt's brother and Leda weren't in the first movie at all.
Secondly - I totally missed the fact that Grindwald could have just let the double go to prison and went along with his plan and this would change nothing.
If you do cut things, leave them here. Some things are too good to be left unseen.
Danielle Radford in an HT Commentary? Yes please!
Congratulations getting everyone watching this to go back and rewatch the honest trailer.
EDIT: It's Aquaman.
DANIELLE IS ON COMMENTARIES! YAY!!! Also, Joe referring to himself as a nine year old boy is... so accurate.
I am so glad I missed this in the theaters. It was on my go to list, and by fate, I'll never have to suffer through it.
Danielle in a HTC? You guys keep spoiling us :) THANK YOU!
WHAT!?!
I didn't go to see FB2 in theatres because I heard about her character assassination. Queenie was my favorite character in FB1 too.
I love that Spencer contributed to this 🤘🏻
lcd130 surprise snark attack
I liked the video the moment I saw the Dans!
Next weeks trailer was mentioned in this trailer? Oh better go watch the trailer now then brb;)
Edit ok I’m back maybe aquaman? Bohemian rhapsody maybe spiderverse?( tho don’t think that was mentioned)
That's exactly what I did lol! (And my guess is also Aquaman.)
I'm hoping for Hot Fuzz, but Aquaman works too!
I think Bohemian Rhapsody.
Killer Queenie reference I caught
@@chrisxx5583 True maybe that's a good thought;)
Looks like they're holding off on Spider-Verse for a while.
Bunnicula!!!! I understood that reference. Y’all just made my day.
Loving the Dan sandwich :)
It's my favourite kind of sandwich
A Danwich :)
you suggest watching the honest trailer before the show but i like watching this straight away .
As someone who doesn't give a damn about Harry Potter I think Rowling's mystery books are legit really good. Hope she keeps writing them
Just finished Lethal White and it was great. Funny how she is able to portray a "will they or won't they" relationship better in her Strike books than her HP books.
@@MyssBlewm Yea, most of the relationships like that in Harry Potter feel pretty childish. Which kinda makes sense, I guess, since for most of the books they were kids.
Man, I love you guys. I hope to someday love my job and coworkers as much as you guys do. ;)
I definitely thought "The Greater Gooood" in the theater every time they said it.
Im thankful for this trailer and commentary. Joe, you didnt enjoy the movie but you got through it for the greater good
Love Danielle... She should be a regular on the commentaries panel 😍
“Ackio spell” made me giggle. Also Danielle is awesome. Love seeing her on the show. And congrats to the new dad!
Eating chocolate frogs 🐸 to counteract this Dementor of a film. That should’ve been in the trailer!
Keep Danielle after Spencer returns. She's great!
I had to replay the trailer's intro 3+ times just to experience Spenny's escalating wrath with the franchise. And it's marvelous.
This was awesome AND YAY DANIELLE 💜
OMG Danielle is HILARIOUS!!!!
I had paragraphs planned, but... THE GREATER GOOD!
I've never been into Harry Potter, but listening to this description of this movie sounds like Zack Snyder directed it lol. Where is the Snyder cut of Fantastic Beasts?
lol y'all ... talk. That's the point. We saw the trailer sans commentary and we're here now to see you spiral down dark rabbit holes and tangents of no return. No more of this "ugh - we'll be here forever- play video" malarkey.
Obliviate isnt the same spell as what happend to him in the rain.
Stacey Sales so glad someone pointed this out.
will u guys ever have jon on the commentaries?
No, Luna did not marry Neville. She married one of Newt's grandchildren (great-grandson).
"...drain them of all joy and fun and laughter".... and wizard robes! Considering that wizards don't know how to dress like Muggles, this is the best dressed and tweedy (and dreary) group of wizards. #SlytherinPride
22:07 needs to be turned into a GIF. It’s wonderful.
Joe! Ive missed yu on sju hope your day is great
The Crime was the movie itself 😲😱 well played JK, well played.
I could have sat thru three hours of you guys talking about FB. It was good therapy for me.
they should’ve casted a young dumbledore and a young grindelwald and tell their story for 3 movies max. would’ve been very interesting since dumbledores past raised a lot of questions in the book. but no they abused the character of newt scarmander who’s completely unnecessary for their story and put in some CGI monsters so the title makes sense and they could stretch it out for 5 movies.
The pure love of seeing your child and raising her and equally being tired and sleep deprived could only be beaten by a movie this bad
Loving Danielle's dress!!
This is my all time favorite Honest Trailer Commentary for how much they dunk on it.
