I was about to buy Z2, I like it more as a design and I thought its camera would be superior over S5, but after watching this video, man... I don't know. The S5 looks better on the most categories... and the sound is way better and realistic. Tough I don't wanna buy S5, I don't like the design and I read that its material feels kinda cheap. I can't decide now...
I'm the same, want to buy the Z2. Don't forget, this video was using Z2 on auto mode which means it was only using 8MP capability whereas if he was using the manual mode it would have been using the full 20.7MP and would probably be better.
soulja boy yes but Samsung does this in full resolution wich is 16 megapixels and the z2 only 8 megapixels in manual you can use the full 20.7 megapixels
+lorisje wuytens Manual take much worse photos if you dont know what are you doing. Superior Auto is easier to use in the Z2. Which is kind of lame if you ask me, manual S5 Photo Mode is much simpler but just as good.
As much as I'm a Sony fan and a true and loyal Sony and Sony Xperia user, (since Xperia P,U,J and M) I admit that the Galaxy S5 won here, I know more of us expects the Z2 will win in terms of camera on paper and the galaxy S5 has no match to it, but shockingly watching this vid proves many of us wrong and in disbelief, I should say that Sony must fix their Camera process algorithms on their next firmware update, it's too bad for such a great camera phone.

I agree with the flash it seems the Samsung is better but it also depends on settings. In video the Sony beat it hands down, colours looked real and not saturated like the s5.
An excellent comparison! I have a Z2 and my wife has an S5. I find that the S5 has overall a better camera in auto mode. It's auto focus is much better and it gets a clearer image nearly every time whereas my Sony is much more hit and miss in it's superior auto mode. And this is a shame because in terms of pure specs, the Sony should trump the Samsung! Images on my Z2 are often less vibrant than on the S5 and this applies even when lighting conditions are ideal. The HDR in the Samsung is also much better than the Sony and it can also be previewed before taking a shot, unlike in the Sony. Regarding video, I found both to be decent although as the reviewer noted, the Samsung's audio quality was 'richer'. The Sony's audio quality almost had a cheaper mp3 quality about it which again is a shame considering Sony prides itself for it's audio quality! It might sound like I'm being very biased towards the S5. But in fact, I really like the Z2 camera when it's auto focus is working ok. I find that the S5's images can be over saturated or 'too colourful' at times. However this might also be due to the S5's AMLOED display? Saying all this, I'm hoping that Sony have done something about their auto focus in their newer smartphones like the Z3 and newer Z3+. The Galaxy S6 is supposed to be a massive step up in terms of camera as compared to the S5 (which itself has a great camera IMHO). Sony shouldn't be playing catch up with Samsung but it appears they're doing just that when comparing their high end smartphone cameras. Oh well, perhaps the Xperia Z5 will wipe the slate clean????? For now, I'll give the better camera award to Samsung, despite preferring my Sony for everything else especially GUI!

The Z2 is slightly better in terms of detail and dynamic range due to the 1/2.3" F2.0 sensor, but the S5 is significantly better when it comes to color reproduction and that is very important. Software in general really seems to be far better on the Samsung phone. The Z2 does seem to have better image stabilisation for video than the S5 though, but the S5 mic is considerably better.

Front facing : Sony looking sharper then samsung, Samsung did a great job in audio and larger angle Rear facing camera: Sony's camera did great job in taking more natural and original color , Samsung did it in over saturated and make it look like a big dot of red at the flower
Xperia Z2 is more than billion times better than the S5 hands down, no competition here. The Z2 looked so much better and even the stabilization is so much better
if someone is ready to take on manual shots every time, hen he/she should go with Z2. otherwise if you mostly use ur phone to capture memories fast and frequently i would suggest S5.
Z2 takes crappy pictures when set to full 20mp; however, when set to superior auto mode (8mp), sensor pixel-binning will kick in and the results will be a lot better!!!

I mean the cameras don't even change focus, you just move it from one subject to another, and the focus is still unchanged. I would suggest trying to focus on 1 object and then the background, and doing so more than once, to confirm the focus speed.

it is true that colour and resolution on S5 is really good, but it seems to be unreal. For example, a bright red object through s5 will turn into orange. On contrary, Z2 is so much closer to bring out the real thing as your eyes look at things. So definitely Z2
You can increase color saturation on Z2... so even if S5 looks more vivd in these videos, you can actually make Z2 display as, or more vivid colors than S5.
Both do a good job to be honest but I've had a z1 compact which they say is the same 20.7 megapixel as the z2 , but z2 has better software .The reason I sold the z1 was the camera, it wasn't the best in low light . I own a s5 at the moment and think it is a great camera , just think Samsung need to stop over saturating the image and really improve there software all over the platform, both phones will not have me selling my rx100 anytime soon

Yıldırım Sertbaş the pictures taken outside are much better on the z2 in my opinion. The quality of the camera is far superior and catches greater detail. You tube doesn't do both these cameras justice, I've got a z2 and have compared it to the S5 which it beats most of the time

The z2's camera is for more professional use, auto mode does a great job but the manual is perfect if you know how to use it.

The post processing of the S5 makes it look better due to its contrast and saturation. You should compare RAW files though.
I want to prefer the z2's camera, but the s5's was just better. I think the z2 slightly edged ahead at 4k recording though.
