One of the very first things to do on a machine like this is a compression check. Find where it leaks compression... Then, an oil change... Then a valve adjustment, then clean-up the spark plugs, then clean the points & static time it... If it fires at all, it means the coil is working. So if there is no spark on one of the cylinders, try a new set of plug wires, still firing on 1 cyl. means that maybe a spark plug is bad. If the dead cylinder happens on the other cylinder after the spark plug swap, then the spark plugs are the problem. The fuel filter on the inlet side of the pump is wrong, it should be on the outlet side, especially when he is lifting it up 36" from the floor... If the fuel tank was located higher than the carburetor, and the filter was on the OUTLET side of the pump, then He might have gotten better results... If he does have this thing up for sale, a good DIY-er would probably swoop on it quickly... BTW, the right thing to use for naked stater windings in a motor or generator is called : 'Glypkote' ....
I did get it to fire on one cyl but never made it generate electricity. She needed gaskets and much more love. But yeah posted it for free on fb marketplace and someone swooped it up - said they liked fixing old machines.
Please, you gotta help me out. What kind of coil are you using? My stock onan cck coil from 1966 is shot. And I can’t find any coils that will work. Please let me know
Man I'm not too sure. It came with the machine. I no longer own it, I donated it to someone who fixes these old things and I did not want to scrap it. Have you used a multi meter to test it?
B Wood, There are several dual output ignition coils on the market for several types of engines that operate on the 'wasted spark' principle... One that has a primary resistance of 3Ω to 4Ω would run these engines very well... Some of the Onan's had mechanical flyweight type of advancers... But those added some complexity to this already simple, sturdy and efficient power plant... Good clean ignition points are a must to keep a machine like this running properly...
I ended up giving it to a guy that restores em. It's just beyond my time to mess with it and I didn't want to chunk it being some awesome machinery that's made it this long. It had some helacious blow by.. poor thing needed some rings. Lol
It's long gone lol. It was too much for me so I let someone who fixes old machines take it. So take it from my experience - these big old engines that are static load are not good off the bat. You'll wanna go EFI or with an ATV/mikuni style carb. The carb that ships with em is good for static loads like generators or pressure washers. They're also super heavy lol
Great video. Editing the necessary and right to the point.
What model is the welder i have a marquette exactly like yours would like to get the manual for the miller

Two cylinder engines. One to run one for a spare. Seriousldy i hear that these are great engines.

I WANT MORE POWER
Gimme the motor to make a baby gokart, check my terrible channel, thanks! Haha
