You are wrong. If it was an honest and real “estate sale” then yes, it’s good because you could win something like in a lottery. But most of them now are borderline scams since they use the “estate sale” term as a tag to attract attention of buyers who think that it’s an honest estate sale. An honest and real estate sale is basically where you actually buy a bunch of stuff and can get occasional very valuable thing. But if they filtered it all for every potentially valuable coin then it’s not very honest because you already get left over which aren’t worth the time for the seller.
I genuinely love your channel! I talk about exactly the same thing on my tiny channel...not so I can be big and famous like you (I work full time!) but just because I love the opening of "vintage" rolls, for decades now. Lucky that you found one! My grandpa gave me my great granddads collection and found an O mint 1854 half dime in very fine condition, along with a bunch of old silver coins. Love your videos man!
I'd give the seller fair marks, they may or may not have known about the possibility of "truly searched" coins. Now they've been truly searched for sure. Excellent and informative video. Thank You ~
pretty lucky. I have had ok luck with (unsearched) rolls brought, but nothing like you luck. I just got 12 rolls and they were for sure searched. only 4 late 20's and 6 30's. the rest were 50's and 60's. I guess it depends on the seller.
Wow VDB!!! sweet finds man im about to go through some of the same rolls, well same style packaging! wish me luck! also got a couple nickel rolls from the early 60's :)
it is a hit-or-miss, I bought rolls because I like it and I usually find good dates specially S mints. Pacific West Metals, d.b.metals and Stoneyt66 (eBay sellers) have good rolls worth the price but again it is a hit-or-miss. ( I have also get rolls from my local bank 25 dollars worth and you get them at face value.... that is if you have time to search for Wheaties) Have a great day and happy hunting
@@RobFindsTreasure got my rolls been busy Finnally finished them mostly 40 s and 50s couple finds defiantly searched. Ill do a little checking and give it another shot. Got to love the hunt
Kinda the same story here but i wasn’t working there and it was a different store the guy at the cash register gave me my change i went through it i saw a dime thought it was a Canadian dime but it was actually a 1942 d mercury dime!
also i was at a Mcdonalds ordering food I got my food and change and the lady gave me a 1955 d penny too bad it wasn’t the double die, but at least I got something
Watching the video made me curious..I used to work in a convenience store as a full time social job while I was caring for my parents.. and over the few years I would run across wheatbacks.. and roll them..Opened the two rolls I could find, and all but 8 of the coins were 40s and 50s. One was chewed up and unreadable, a 1917,a 1920, a 1929, a 1930, a 1935or36, a 1936,and a 1939 the 35-36 is worn and my eyes aren't what they used to be...No no 43steelies... I also have about $15.00 in solid silver but they are locked up in a storage room. Its amazing what you come across in retail
6:37 The 1937-S was in nice shape, yes, but sometimes a VF/XF will have some original mint luster The first few coins from a new die are known among Mint employees for their brilliance, sometimes a "proof-like" quality. No proofs from San Francisco, though --- not until 1968.
Hi my name is Rosie and I've been watching all day and that you get these callings and mail can I ask you for the phone number please I really want to get some coins from them thank you please let me know
Rob did you see the video with the 4 "unsearched" rolls I got from a local coin shoppe? They were 4 INCREDIBLE rolls. From 1910's to 11 steel cents, to lots of S mint marks, a Key Date 1933D AND a CHROMED 1956 in mint condition!!!! the other Rob
Got screwed by an eBay dealer selling unseached wheat cents. He pulled a bait and switch on me and no telling how many others. He showed old rolls in the description picture. When the pennies came they were in new style rollers just like I get at the bank. When contacted he told me that he would refund my money. Never saw any money. There is no such thing as a unsearched wheat cent roll on eBay. The dealers buy the pennies and then try to sell the junk they don’t want. U won’t get anything but 1940’sand1950’s. Ebay lets them get away with it.
You did better than I did at least you got an Indian Head and some 09 s I didn't get those but then again I don't buy any more from eBay I've been ripped off too many times
I have a wheat penny with vdb on the lower back between the wheat a 1909. I also have a 1914 D in really good condition. Also, I have a Susan B. Anthony with a small rim around the coin.let me take a picture of the 1909.
Wow! I'm really excited and happy for you and just a tiny bit jealous. But that's good, right? It means there's still hope for the rest of us to come across some of those oldies!
Proofs were minted in Philadelphia 1964 and earlier so no, that 1937-S was not a proof. It was also pretty worn so it could have been cleaned or damaged chemically in some way.
i bought a unsearched roll on ebay last week and found a 1909 vdb and other semi rare coins. definitely worth what i paid for it. but i have bought others that were definitely searched. from my experience buy from people that show both ends... you usually can tell rolls that have been opened by how tight the ends are.
That 1937 D you found is a proof-like (pl) coin. So the machines that had the dies for the coins were polished once in a while, and the first coins that they printed the design on have a proof like shine. So that penny is worth more than the average 1937 D.
I always take "unsearched" as they haven't been searched for varieties and such...I could never believe someone would sell potentially valuable cents in lots unsearched...I do like buying these lots though to search for varieties and have yielded great finds. Better than actually hunting boxes even.
ALWAYS check an 1888 Indian Head cent for the remnants of a 7 poking out to the lower left of the final 8. That's an 1888/7 overdate and would probably be worth $1000 or more in that condition. I don't see evidence of an overdate in the video.
Henry S most eBay sellers get unique stock from garage sales, estate sales, thrift stores. A lot of liquidation too. I’d say estate sale is the most believable
Michael Leftwich I’ve been trying to find a VDB for 20 years. I’ve never bought rolls though. I’m going to the bank tomorrow. Coin rolls look like fun.
Parker Ebert the Penny Horder Funny thing is I did. I got two boxes that turned out some good finds. Then went back the next week & got a 3rd box from the same bank. That 3rd box had a roll with a wheatie ender. The end was a 40’ something & there was also a 1909 in the roll as well believe it or not. Unfortunately it was not a VDB, but it did fill a spot in my book. Coin roll hunting is where it’s at. Can’t believe I didn’t think of it years ago. You can go through a lifetime of pocket change in one weekend.
Sal Andrade Thanks Sal. The VDB stands for Victor David Brenner. He was the designer of the Lincoln Cent and placed his initials on the reverse of the 1909 Lincoln Wheat Cent. Coal Worsfold Hey Carl - that sounds like a ”filled die” error. Grease is usually the reason for it. Sometimes parts of the die is filled with grease and as it strikes the planchet it can omit letters or numbers.
