    In this video I was "gifted" some unsearched wheat penny rolls that a seller from eBay got their hands on. They actually sent me a few rolls to test out for them since I have bought from them before.
    I was really surprised by the finds in these two rolls and was happy that they gave them to me!
    Here's a link to their eBay Store since they have great feedback and I have done well with my purchases from them:

    If you look at the condition of the 50s wheats you can tell they have a lot more than 10 or 15 years of wear on them. Assuming they were wrapped in the 60s they would be in much better condition. Just look at the current coins that are 20 years old made in 2000 most have very good detail left. Sorry if it doesn't make sense, it does to me. Imo these are completely searched and seeded with certain coins to make people somewhat happy when unwrapping these.

    One thing I've learned is old isn't necessarily valuable, or very valuable. My grandmother was two years old when your 1888 was struck. Thinking of her it doesn't seem that old to me. But it is an interesting bunch for so called unsearched rolls. Had they been rolled in the 1950s I would think the coins of that era would have been minty.

    A couple of red flags: Cripple Creek CO but yet seemed heavily biased to lower cost P mints especially on the oldies. If they were truly from Colorado I doubt this would be the case. Also no memorials? Then it must have been 1958 or very early 1959. If so should be loaded with BU and AU 50s. Yes there were some but also some well circ brown ones. Those Indian Heads were the cheapies also and all seemed to not have a visible liberty headband which is a key grading criteria. I'm not buying it.

    These are absolutely well-searched and seeded. They are sure to load at least one "special" coin in each roll and a bunch of circulation-culled Wheats. You can get the wrappers printed for you and they most likely have a coin roller, then then age the rolls to make it look like they have been sitting in a vault somewhere for 50 years when in reality they were likely rolled within days of them showing up in your PO box. My local coin shop made and sold "Unsearched" rolls like this and made more money on eBay than from his retail store.

    It is unlikely that these are original for several reasons:
    1. The rolls have a ZIP code which dates them after 1963. You would expect a good many high grade early sixties Memorials.
    2. The Philadelphia Mint is overrepresented - Coins didn't move around the country as much 50+ years ago - I got rolls in California in the mid 70's and they were mostly "D" and "S" mints. I would expect the later coins to be almost all from Denver.
    3. There were Indian cents but all of them were discolored as if they were in a moist environment or a limited time in water. Almost none of the wheats were that way.
    The rolls would not be a bad deal if they were relatively cheap and would be a good way to start a collection.
    I have been an avid collector for over 50 years (most of my life) and I base this opinion on experiences over the years.

    The zip code on the roll indicates the coins had to have been rolled after zip codes were implemented, which would make the rolls from 1963 or later. The fact that coins rolled in 1963 don't have any coins from 1960, 1961, or 1962 means something is fishy.

    Did a little research on this bank, it failed on November 30, 1971. While it wouldn’t be impossible to get pennies that were wrapped in 1958, I am suspect of that date. One thing I noticed, those 1958 cents should’ve been coming out almost new and many had toned as if they had been in circulation for quite a while. Since there were no Lincoln Memorial cents in the mix I would doubt the roll could have been legitimately wrapped very far into 1959.
    Being that the bank failed those wrappers may have found their way into someone’s hands. The company that sold the bank wrappers may have even had a supply of those printed up for the bank when they failed & then sold them to a non-bank party.
    Overall though I enjoyed the video.

      I paid HIGH dollar for two Ebay rolls that were advertised as "true unsearched". When I received the rolls, the seller included a letter that said they were "good roles" but, if unsearched, how did the seller know? Secondly, the rolls were obviously assembled by the seller because the composition was a run of pennies -- one penny for each year -- which is impossible for a bank roll or mint roll. The seller promised unsearched and did not deliver.

    Back about 1963 my brother drove an ice cream truck in Houston TX. He'd come home with Indian heads, V nickles, and various Barber head coins, and I'd give him modern coins to replace them. Unfortunately, being a kid, I ended up spending most of them as time went on. I still have the 1881 S silver dollar he brought home one day.

    Yeah you can tell those were hand sealed because you can see the twist crimp at the end of each roll, where the one side is left perfectly crimped. the person definitely tried their hardest though to do a good job. Look at most bank sealed true wrapped rolls. The ends are always near perfect and symmetrical where these ones were symmetrically hand crimped. Just saying, people need to be honest when promoting their rolls on eBay or places like it. I sell rolls myself but I specifically put "hand rolled and filled copper roll" as to not be miss leading just to make a sale. Plus I use a 5x mag so I'm sure I'm missing some DDOs DDRs rpms ETc. Dishonesty hurts the person buying and the hobby as a whole

  • @williamfindspeople4341
    @williamfindspeople4341 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Save the roll paper. Also Indian Head pennies are are rated according to their color so either brown or red brown or they're red. That determines the base value that 1900 looks like a red Brown if that's so then it's worth $95. The 1903 is $10. The 1899 Brn $70...1888 is very difficult to find $175...1889 $40....1880 $105 if brn...

Also, did anyone else notice that the last 2/3 of the roll was in ONE ORIENTATION? Red flag alert: they were all (nearly?) heads-up. (This is all based on roll #1)

    Based on what we know, we can't fault the seller or the reviewer. These are probably just rolls that are now being sold under different pretenses. We think that coin dealers have been sorting, bagging, and selling circulated Wheats for many years now, and, just for fun, will put together "unsearched" rolls they have seeded with steel cents, low-grade 10s-20s-30s (we say Book I Wheat) and throw in a 1909 and a few cull Indians to up the ante. No way is the roll worth $20 (probably $5 to $8) but what the hell. It's a very old marketing gimmick --- but it works! We all love a mystery.

  • @sluggger
    @sluggger 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The most glaring thing to me is that if unsearched from the late 50s, #1) the coins from the 50s wouldn't have today's level of wear on them as they appear to have, since they would've just been new coins sitting in a roll, not to mention the roll would have, #2) at least conceivably, more distribution of coin dates i.e. more of the noticeably absent 30s representation and perhaps a few more from the 20s as well. I would also say 3 IH is suspect in any random sampling of two, even of the possible era of the rolls, but I guess that could come down from sheer luck. Someone could've repacked these over the years at some point and just did a very good job at it... or it could've been, by chance, some of the nicest individual rolls anyone's ever packed. Honestly, I'm not sure what to believe, but, the only thing I would say is to caution anyone buying similar rolls expecting the same results. That's really all that can be said on the issue of whether they're unsearched and whether it's a good idea to make purchases where the proposition is similar, is simply to advise caution. However, obviously, you got these for free which was a wonderful gift, and I was excited to see such nice pulls. Thanks for the video.

    I have 2 really rare pennies I’m wondering what the worth is?
    Both are 1830’s pennies(big half dollar sized)
    One is very worn, could barely read it says “1835”. This one has a hole on it sadly so I just wear it as a necklace. Figure even with a hole, it’s still worth something but I like the look of it.
    The other is very clear, very good condition, still a decent amount of circulation dings but not too much wear. It’s 1836 and has no hole like the one above lol.

    I have purchased these type of rolls in the past... Just out of curiosity... And there is always 2 or three token indian heads and usually no teen or 20s wheats or maybe 1 or 2 in horrible condition the rest always seem to be 1956..57..58....and never an s mintmark... I cant comment directly on this particular ebay store... I am not sure if its same as i purchased from because it was prob 6 or 7 years ago. As you say... Its fun to get any indian heads because they are next to imposible to find in search boxes or pocket change....so to add to a collection you would have to buy individually on line or at LCS or coinshow... So i guess if you like the mystery and hunt... And can get them delivered in your mail... It would be fun for older people or shut ins to do for fun.... If you want to get rich quick... Prob not the best way.... But some people spend 10 ...20 bux.. or way more per week on drive through coffee.... Lol.... So i say... ""do what you love people... If it makes you happy" at least you get to keep these! That cup of coffee is gone forever!.....wink.. Wink😜👍
