Pain, tension, stiffness, etc. How can you begin to see your body beyond a mechanical part and see any part of your body as a part of whole, YOU? When you begin to see any part of your body as a part of whole, you will begin to understand that pain, tension, stiffness is not a problem of a specific body part, but is a problem of its relationship with other parts, a problem of whole, a problem of integration, coordination, kinesthetic awareness. These connections, interrelationships, coordination are not something you make in your head, but something you sense and experience in your body. How did you learn to walk for the first time? How did you learn to skip, jump, run, ride a bicycle for the first time? You did not learn by thinking about how to do them, did you? You did not learn by reading manuals, did you? You learned by doing them, feeling, sensing your body, making mistakes, making adjustments, gradually figured out how to do them. I am quite certain you were very well connected with your body when you were learning those things. This is simply how we learn movement, and acquire motor skills. This is called kinesthetic learning, which we all did when we were a child, and is a natural way of learning. How do you learn movement now? Do you learn the same way you did as a child? Or are you learning movement in your head? Do you feel as connected to your body when you learn movement as you did as a child? Most of us, adults, have learned to comprehend intellectually and apply this to movement and motor skills. This is what I'm referring to "our modernized culture trains us to disconnect us from our bodies". This is why I keep talking about connecting with YOUR BODY so you can go back to organic learning, the way you learned about your body and movement when you were a child! This is a key to bringing comfort, ease, confidence, authenticity back into YOUR BODY! Please keep this in mind as you practice movement with my videos! When you watch my latest video (link in the comment), remind yourself that your shoulder is a part of whole, YOU, and you don't fix your shoulder. You just improve its relationship to other parts, so you improve yourself as a whole, that's how you bring comfort, ease, confidence, authenticity into YOUR BODY. Let's move beyond mechanical fixing and correction!

you're welcome:) actually we all learned to move organically, being connected to our body as a baby and child, but most of us lose that connection, and lose that quality of learning, and moving as we get older. So, we're learning how to learn like a child now!

Hi Taro. In this video and the previous one, here is my question. As I turned my head to the right, it activated pain below my left shoulder blade. A troubling area. When I reached from my pelvic with my right arm, it activated pain in that area again. Am I doing something incorrectly that triggers that area? Thank you ~ Marilyn
try reaching from pelvis with your right arm while you have your face turned to left, and see if you feel the same, or different. I don't know how you're really moving, but am curious if doing this above will change anything.
You are right! It did not activate it at all. However it is difficult to reach for something in front of me with my head turned (laughing) I will continue to practice it this way to hopefully retrain my brain. Thank you Taro
@@wisdomgemsfrommsquiettime1638 nice to know that there was a change. This is not to suggest you reach with your face turned to left, but to experiment whether head position has any effects on other parts such as mid back/shoulder blade area. The difference there is to reduce stretch of nerves on left side by shortening left side of your neck by turning your head to left as you reach your right arm forward. The fact that this reduced that sensation in your mid back leads me to think this is related to your neck, and the relationship between your neck and arm during that movement, that is a part of your habitual movement pattern. You can retrain your reaching pattern, leaning pattern, and change a relationship between your arm/shoulder, neck, torso, and pelvis. This is a lot to think about, I know, but I am sharing my thought process and how I observe my body, movements, and how I observe others. You can learn to reach your arm arm without overstretching left side of your neck.
What is the reason that we do not do this naturally? Why is our movement so bad to begin with? Why does our body not find the better way subconsciously?

Very good. It helped me feel this difference between reaching with just my shoulder, vs adding in the chest, torso, and then pelvis.
great! everything is connected!
Thanks for this it has helped with my Tai Chi practice.
