    How do you get your models to stick to your supports while allowing them to be removed easily?
    That is the question this entire video is focused on. The topic is all focused on your Cura Support interface. Specifically targeted to your floor interface and your roof interface. There are two types of supports; the first adheres to your print bed, and the second is the kind that adhere to your model. That is where your floors and roofs come in handy to understand. I break down how to find your perfect interface settings by showing how to test and discover your perfect numbers.
    I uploaded the test models I created on thingiverse for you to follow along. Download them here:

    The more you put in, the more your students get out. It's so important to not just be given good settings, but to have clear, real world examples of what is actually happening. In short, why the chosen settings have been chosen. You, sir, are raising my game and I am very grateful to you for it.

      No, thank you once again for the kind words! I firmly believe seeing is believing. I know just telling people what the settings are doesn’t help them when things don’t work. My goal is always complete understanding. This topic was one of the most important hence the length.

    This lesson 100% needs to be mandatory viewing for anyone even thinking about printing. This is absolutely singlehandedly the most important lesson I've ever seen when it comes to printing. You could not have done a better job at detailing this immensely important setting. I'm amazed bro, truly incredible and I want to thank you so much for sharing this info and demonstrating it the way you did. Simply fantastic in every way.

Kudos and a big thank you.

    HI, great video i have been learning a lot for your help.
    what version of Cura are you using?
    i have all the options checked in the settings to display everything but the roof "Z" distance does not show up anywhere as described in your video at 28:18
    after i set the floor "Z" and density then checked the roof settings box the settings disappeared.

    First of all - such a grate video! Thank you for that!
    What more I can say is that i recomend using an Support Roof Horizontal Expansion (0.4 mm is my go to). It gives the eges more straight flore for the next layer to print :)

    Hi, i tried to put a support cube above a normal cube but for some reason when i slice it, the supports don't get included in the slicing. It's like cura doesn't recognise them as parts. So I can't have a support structure on top of a part without something above the support. Help

    Great video series, one note that seems to have been glossed over the support top and bottom z-distance needs to be a multiple of the layer height, or cura will just round it up anyway. so say you are printing at a 0.1 mm layer height, then your 0.35 and 0.4 are the same distance as far as cura is concerned.

    • @dinkyemg
      @dinkyemg ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was just going to point this out. You can tell in the cura preview that it always rounds up based on your layer height. Will save people a lot of time in testing if this was pinned somewhere

    Thanks for the great video it was very helpful. Wondering if you could help with an issue I am having. Trying to print a support floor, but every time I hit that part of the print the floor does not stick to the model. I am printing at a 0.2mm layer height, with a 0.2mm support floor z-gap.

    Once I find all of my settings for .08mm layer height, am I safe to assume that I will need to make adjustments for every different layer height that I use?

    • @ItsMeaDMaDe
      @ItsMeaDMaDe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unfortunately I hate to tell you but yes. Your settings would change a little when you change layer height.

  • @ProwlersPit

    That was a great video very informative. Hopefully I can get my supports lockdown that good.
    My issue right now is stringing. I have taken apart my hotend fully cleaned it new nozzle I have ran a retraction test and a temperature test. Each temperature and retracting test had a good amount of stringing. I tried old filament new and three different brands in all does the same thing. Do you have a video for perfecting retraction?

    Phenomenal video. love the systematic testing approach. You've shone a light on a often overlooked topic (what the settings actually do). The diagram portion was probably the highest value for me. If we were to translate your printers support settings from your 0.1 printing resolution to a 0.2 resolution, would you just double the values (for the Z distance)? Also, will there be a subsequent test to analyze different the support interface patterns?

    • @justalabratmr.6858
      @justalabratmr.6858 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is the z-height for the interface layer is only in multiples of layer height. I am using 0.4mm layer height and the minimum z-gap I can set is 0.4mm. So the first thing it prints after the Z-gap looks pretty BAD!🤨

    • @blademonkey
      @blademonkey ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@justalabratmr.6858 i wonder if you could print that first layer after the z gap slower since its more of a bridge than a supported layer. There might also be a linked bridging setting to force bridging mode on that specific layer too.

    • @justalabratmr.6858
      @justalabratmr.6858 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@blademonkey yes i have tried the print at a much slower speed (5mm/sec) and that worked well, but you are limited to top/bottom speeds only not just at the interface gap but the whole part. as a result it takes much longer to print , which i was trying to ovoid by using the bigger line height! oh well one must compromise i guess.

    Very good and detailed video! One question though, for the roof, why not try all between 0.2-0.25? It looks like something around 0.205/0.22 would give you the good layer but come out a easier. Like i feel that combining something like a 0.21 with a 90% density for the top would be really good for you
