    Just dropping in to see how things are going. Looks like your right in the nitty gritty of it! Keep up the good work!

      It's becoming quite a project Greg, the next episode is coming up soon. More power steering fun (actually, it was not fun at all). Thanks for stopping by!

    It is fine that you distribute this stuff. I have 1993 model TOO and your videos are very valua Le to me.
    I like my car and try to keep it in good condition. Toyota/Lexus dealers are not of big help anymore.

    Hi, thanks for making these love your videos. I have a question did replacing the capacitors end up helping the cars fuel economy at all? And if it did was it a big improvement?

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends per car in my experience. This car had ignition and transmission issues due to the leaking caps, the fuel consumption wasn't bad (and not because the car was undriveable), 10 liters per 100 km's. For my own LS 400 (Project LS 400) the fuel consumption improved from 13 to 10 liters per 100 km's. Bad fuel consumption in first gen LS 400's is often caused by multiple things: O2 sensors going bad, injector wear and very often a cold start injector that is stuck open. Often times, these things occur at the same time. Back to your question: replacing the capacitors can indeed improve the fuel economy, but 10l/100 km (or 28.2 MPG UK) is the best I ever got out of a LS 400.

      @@Carnold_YT Ok thanks for your advice. I have a 1993 SC 400 and it runs fine but its getting terrible fuel economy bad like a 75l tank will last me maybe 330km not sure what the issue is might do the spark plugs and see what happens. Might get someone to check the injectors or cold start injector that you mentioned.

      @@nigel7598 That is a pretty high fuel consumption Nigel, I'd suggest you start with the cold start injector under the intake plenum and disconnect that. See if that makes a difference (if this is the fault, the car should also have a heavy fuel smell from the exhaust, because of the extreme rich condition). Another thing you can check is a short to ground on the injectors. The injectors are switched to ground to open them. If there is a short to ground, it remains open constantly. Please note that the injectors work in pairs, so there are always two controlled simultaneously by the ECU. The early 1UZ's have the fuel injection of a four cylinder engine 🙂

    Got a 93 us model. Crank no start. Got good fuel got spark replaced caps. Only code is 24 for iat but shouldn’t keep it from atleast firing up

      The IAT is in the air volume sensor, did you try changing that out? In my previous '93 LS400 I had the same issues as you. Changed the AVS and all was good.

      Hey Chris, I'll dive into this subject in the upcoming episode. The workshop manual has several routes to troubleshoot this fault code.

    Where did you get those capacitor? I've got a 1992 LS400 that was garage kept for 12 years. Brought it to the workshop and after 7 months "most" of it got fixed. Been experiencing some symptoms like loss of power, engine stalling and recently found out my power steering is leaking. Any tips on the power steering? I saw a TH-cam video where Toyota/Lexus prefers Dextron ATF fluids instead of power steering fluid. Have you tried that out?

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello Saf, thanks for your comment. In regard to the capacitors: I ordered them online at RS Components, they are widely available and very cheap. About the power steering fluid: Lexus prescribes plain ATF for the power steering system, I have always used that in all my LS 400's. If you are going to replace the capacitors in the ECU, make sure to also check the mass contacts in the engine bay. Corroded mass pints (Where the electrical system is grounded to the car's bodyshell) can also cause electrical issues. If you want to, I can look it up and show it in a future episode.

      @@Carnold_YT yes pleasee! thank you so much for the fast response (its 12AM where I am). I recently did a throttle body service - that sorta fixed the low idle issue (for a day) but it's still idling low on my RPM gauge. As for the rest, my speedometer, odometer and temperature gauge is not working at all. The backlight does not light up. Any idea on that one? (im guessing its the ECU?)
