Toyota Yaris Hybrid 130 - Real life car review
Even though the Toyota Yaris is only 4 years old, Toyota did a thorough update on this very succesful model. The interior electronics got updated, as did the safety systems. The most noticeable update is the new 130 horsepower hybrid drivetrain. An increase of 15 horsepower don't seem much, but it is the extra 44 Newtonmeters of torque that make a difference.

      Thanks for your comment! In comparison with the MX-30, the C-HR is noticeably sportier and more dynamic in the steering. The Mazda is more laidback, but not to a point where it is too comfortable. It is more of a side effect of its weight, Mazda used that to enhance the ride comfort, but with plenty of driver engagement.

      Hi there, thanks for your comment. Please let me know if that repair was succesful. With a lot of parts that are no longer available, we need to find ways to repair broken parts and maybe even produce our own parts for our cars. That can be challenging, but we Lexus owner aren't afraid of a challenge. (Otherwise we would have bought a German car and ordered every imaginable part at the dealer).

    What a great review... when I first looked at the EV-only version of MX30 in 2021 & found there was such a HUGE empty space in teh engine bay I was thinking Mazda COULD easily insert a small rotary engine to extend the pathetic 224km range from the 35.5kWh battery. I think Mazda removed could have removed too much battery & should have kept it at 112-135kWh (50-60% of 224km) which would allow petrol consumption to go down until Mazda also gets access to lighter LFP batteries from CATL. Tot Zeins!!

    The nose and tail are perfect. It's just the middle that's screwed up. Take the section out, add a 15cm stretch and 4 standard opening doors, and you will have killer looks, proper interior seating space, and add another 20 lt fuel capacity to whatever is there already, giving you a real world range of additional 160 miles. Problem solved.

      You are pretty much spot on what need to be done but I would add lose the cork material interior and instead adding 20 lt fuel tank(50 is enough). I would rather add battery range as close to the EV version has.

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When you pulled 8 kg (or 80 N) at an arm of 200 mm (0.2 m), your torque is 16 Nm. That means your torque wrench clicks too late and the spring tension should be lowered. It should click at 6.5 kilo: 13 (Nm) = 65 N x 0.2 meters. Hope this helps!

    The information consumers need for plug-in hybrids is EV efficiency and ice efficiency starting with a full battery for 100km, 250km, 500km & 1000km. Other reviews have suggested this car will use 9.5l / 100km (30mph) 0_o

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I try to measure the fuel / energy consumption by not interfering with the default mode of the car. The MX-30 R-EV can be forced to drive as an ICE or EV. I left it in Auto-mode and based my engergy consumption on that. However, if you force it in EV mode, the energy consumption is around 17 kWh per 100 km, if you drive it pure as an ICE car, then you'll end up with 9 liters per 100 kilometer, at mixed backroad, city and highway driving.

    • @StandAndStare
      @StandAndStare 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Carnold_YT while useful info, and rather disappointing (hence one reason this car is being discontinued almost everywhere) for future cars, people just want to know how much their driving will cost them. While presumably far less applicable for non-direct ice drive hybrid, for all I know, the ice and EV working together could be so efficient the solo numbers are misleading.

    Thanks for a great review, very informative and well presented. I had a new CX5 diesel a while ago and it was a lovely car to drive, and the tech and interiors are great. I have only recently "discovered" this ReV version, and although not exactly the most practical car around, with those doors, really like what it offers, especially negating "range anxiety". Here in the UK it's quite pricey, but, looking around the dealer networks, I have found the top range Makoto model on offer for as low as £26 k with less than 1000 miles on the clock, which is quite a saving over new. On the downside I could imagine depreciation being pretty savage over 3 years, even though the PCP retained values don't look too bad. I usually purchase my cars for cash but in this case I would go with a PCP to try to shield against any precipitous future depreciation, just like full electric car values are plummeting at the moment.

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for your comment. The one thing that really stands out for me with the MX-30 (both the EV and R-EV) is the interior. Mazda have really outdone themselves in terms of build quality and material choice. When it comes to price and residual value, you have to tak ein account that this technology has to prove itself in terms of reliability and maintenance and repair costs. However, I've spoken with Mazda engineers (I've written a detailed article on the 8C engine) and they pointed out that the load on this rotary engine is quite different than in any RX-model from the past. It operates in a narrower rev-range and all the parts are engineered to that, with longevity in mind. Anyway, I wasn't familiar with the concept of PCP, but it seems like a smart thing to do. Thanks for watching!

Looking at seat quality at timestamp th-cam.com/video/gFc1AqXEUvA/w-d-xo.html Is it a thing where people can/do install better, more appropriate/comfortable or customised seats into cars they recently acquired? Or is that kind of thing more appropriate for car customisers? I ask, because I'm about to obtain one of these, but it would be cool to know, that if I wanted, I could ditch the seats and install some more comfortable ones. There are companies that make custom car seats, suited to individual body shapes and sizes. Those can be fitted to any vehicle, but there may be issues with the airbag and seatbelt tensioner system. I assume that these custom made seats also have those safety systems, but it may depend on the car brand whether or not it is possible / difficult to make that work. Many torque wrenches have a groove or line in the middle of the handle grip. This is to show where your hand should be positioned and, ergo, where you should calibrate the toque from. Nice job and great instructional video!...but I prefer to call such tools a Torque Gauge! because every wrench is a torque wrench, because it applies torque, but a Torque Gauge measures it (or in the case of the click type, even limits it). Cheers from my garage to yours!

      Thanks so much for your comment, I think your terminology might be indeed more correct than calling it a torque wrench.

    Love your review man and love that you are an actually owner. Many of these so-called reviewers know absolutely nothing about what they're talking about after their brief rides but are focused more on becoming internet stars!

    Thank you so much for this from Devon in the uk. We test drove that same model last saturday, then ordered it and it will arrive before Easter. Really excited for this car, originally we ordered the Kia Sportage, but found out it was only mild hybrid and poor fuel economy, so changed to this car, cannot wait, ordered the red which has an orange tinge to it. Cheers! ❤😊

    just keep tightening till something strips or shears off then back off quarter turn.

      I have had that happen when using a torque wrench. Just squeeze some JB Weld in there and tell no one ;-)

    You use a spring scale to calibrate with? Go get an old Wish-bone wrench. Spring scales are for sissy's.

    I really enjoyed this video, thank you!Another method for calibrating anything (torque wrenches today) is to compare two or better still three other wrenches. If you haven't got more than one perhaps borrow one and compare them and particularly if all three actuate the same that's pretty good test. You can also use the method of setting to an angle, clamp square drive in the vice, set up all wrenches to the same setting and with the angular unit note the angles that each wrench clicks. If they all break at the same angle you have three pretty good wrenches, if not you can self calibrate or get them checked by a calibration service. Especially good makes of mechanical ones are expensive to replace and worth the cost if in good condition. This method has proven to be pretty good over the years as I on several occasions had access to a proper test facility so was able to double check results.

    I believe some Ford/Mazda engines also rely on a special jig and bolts only for setting the timing - a horrifying design that's just asking for trouble! Great video and discussions, thank you. The Gutentight spec is certainly better than "tighten till you hear a crack, then back off a quarter turn". :D

    Hello from Australia! How do you like the Maxxis Premitra tyres?

      I am very pleased with those tyres, in my opinion they suit the car really well. They are very quiet and the comfort and steering response are also very good. Thanks for watching and all the best from Holland!
