    Hi Arnold. Thank you so much for an amazing video! I started w/Episode 12 to see the instrument panel removal, repair and reinstallation! Congratulations-You fixed it!! In 2001, I bought a 1999 Lexus LS400. Its been an awesome automobile to own. However, I’ve been watching most all of the instrumentation lighting fade and fail over the last 10 years! I’m not a mechanic-but since I retired, I’m relishing the chance to see “behind the plastic curtain” of my Lexus panel thru your efforts. Over the years I’ve heard from other Lexus LS400 owners the lighting loss on the instrumentation is a known issue. I’m hoping to find someone to fix mine :-). Meanwhile, I just can’t thank you enough for the quality and thoroughness of your video! It was amazing to see you work! And, your narration is wonderful! I’ll be watching this episode again and have subscribed to follow you. Again, thank you for sharing your time!

      Thanks very much for your comment and thanks for watching! I'll be working on later models LS (second gen and the LS430) later this year. If there's any subject you'd like to know more about, just let me know!

    Good evening Arnold. Thank you very much for amazing videos! 1. Can you please tell me: what was the year of your first LS400, mileage and what major repairs it had? 2. Why did you decide to buy this particular generation of LS400 for a project car? 3. What's the year and mileage of the project vehicle please?

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My first LS was a 1993 first generation, just as my current one. That had 211.000 km's when I got it. The major repairs on that car were a new air suspension strut on the rear axle, new suspension components on the front and a major engine service (belts, water pump, valve clearance). That car was competely rust free, in contrary to my current LS. It also needed a dash repair. I bought this current LS because it was the cheapest one I could find (and afford) and I know this model quite well. One thing I like is that is fairly easy to repair with normal tools, especially the electronics and electro-mechanical parts. The newer generations already have much smalled components on the circuit boards. It is a 1994 with 336.000 km's. Thanks for watching!

      Thank you so much for a reply. I've never had a Lexus. I like 94 to 00 models, although I was told 97 to 00 5 speed gearbox doesn't last that long as the older one. Will definitely buy a LS400 one day! Where did you learn mechanical skills?@@Carnold_YT

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I learnt my mechanical skills partially from my dad, partially out of necessity. When I was younger, I had a classic Honda fourstroke bike to go to school. Back then, that was already a classic and every now and then it needed a repair. Since I had no money, I had to fix it myself, on a strict budget. At one point I decided to overhaul the engine in a weekend, and that taught me a lot. Besides that, I needed it up and running after the weekend, otherwise I had to take the bus to school. Most of my skills are self-taught, I ended up working as an automotive expert without ever going to auto / mechanics schools. I do work a lot on the theoretical side of automotive tech, so I always say that I'm a professional by day and amateur in the evening hours when I work on my own cars :-)

    Make a shield to fit over the alternator so if the steering pump leaks again the fluid will not get into the alternator.

    I’ve seen many videos and forums for 93 and 94 models but nothing for 91, the set up is different. Any way to tell which capacitor causes black screen for the 1991 ls400?

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your question. Unfortunately I don't have the answer. The circuit board of the pre-facelift UCF10 is indeed different. I don't know how many capacitors there are on the circuit board, but they are know to deteriorate after three decades. I think it wouldn't hurt to replace them all, just to be on the safe side.

    Hey Arnold! Just wanted to ask where'd you get the info on the Instrument Panel's Capactiors? I can't seem to find the info for my 1992 LS400. On another note, I just brought the capacitors (that Yamae from the Lexus Forums recommended for an LS400 '92 model) to my electrician so hopefully my ECU can be fixed. Wish me luck!

    Hi, Arnold my speedometer doesn’t work. But it works when it gets hotter outside. What can this be? I have already replaced the capacitors in the ECU

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a known issue Brandon, the grease inside the speedometer gears gets sticky, causing the needle to stay on its rest. If you gently smack the top of the dash, the needle jumps up and will work normally. It's caused by the ageing of the grease inside.
