I’ve had the S1H for 2 years now and the image out of it, dynamic range, NO overheating, internal specs (6k is huge!), 10-bit 422 (plus Prores raw) , high speed shutter rates, motion cadence, evf are better than it’s hybrid competitors. The S5 is a mini S1H so it shares a lot of the banging features 👌

I just bought the Panasonic S5 after the Canon R6 overheated while recording a cooking video for my wife's channel... And now I am in love with this camera. Somehow the footage looks more pleasant than the Canon, more filmic. Btw, I quite like the moody colors of your footage. I don't want to put pressure on you but... I am looking forward to getting those Luts 😁
@@EmadApple It all depends on the budget and the type of videos that you want to make. But a very good option now is the Sony ZV-E10, it is very good overall and the price is very reasonable.

I bought this on release at a promotion price because I was tired of waiting for the Sony a7iv. I bought it because there were so many specs (6k raw on external recorder, and anamorphic etc.) at such a great price. Then I fell in love with the images that came out. It was unbelievable.
Hey Sam, after having switched to the S1 and now the S5 from the R6 I gotta say I love the image and the colours out of the Lumix cameras. They are so versatile and the DR is huge! I still prefer the handling and auto focus out of the canons but overall I love my Lumix setup!

@@SamHolland 100% agree. Dynamic range is a huge factor. Also It’s easy to get natural colours, which is sometimes harder than you think and it’s able to take on luts and colour well if you want a certain look, very versatile.

I was debating between the Sony A7iii and the LUMIX S5. I initially bought the A7iii and tried it out but was not satisfied with the 8bit quality and tech from 2018 (no touch screen). The LUMIX on the other hand blew my mind. 10bit quality and 4K 60fps available (with a slight crop). Love shooting in v-log and grading it to my liking. Easier to work with in my opinion over Sony's Slog.
I love S5. I had a chance to test S5 about an year ago (from Panasonic Bulgaria). Just before the update that was improoving the autofocus. In my opinion this is the best deal on the market for FF camera. The price is great and the veryety of the video formats is a even better. Only down side I see is the price of L mount lenses.
Yeah. It’s such a great camera. I think the lenses aren’t bad price compared to RF. but you could also get some affordable cine lenses too. That’s what I’ll be doing I think. Thanks for watching 😀🙏🏻😀
Loved the video man keep up the great work. Also if you ever do a more detailed video on its auto focus can you do with the AF confirmation that Luca Bono Studio showed I think it makes a big difference in tracking ability for Panasonic cameras that no one talks about
When we first got into video we went with LUMIX G7 and GH5 and we loved them! Honestly if their AF was on par with canon/Sony we would have kept them but we sold them for Sony a year ago. Still Miss that image quality though! :)
Would love to see a V-Log color grading tutorial. I already color grade well but love to see different approaches just for some variety of options. I love this camera it is amazing and I chose this over Sony cause it records beautiful video!

Hi Sam, Thanks for all your very appreciated video! I'm wondering about the footage in the rowboat, was it recorded in camera or on an external recorder? If external was it in raw? My questions are because I have a S5 with the lumix 85mm. I film in log internally in 10bits 4:2:2, balance colors with color sheet, at 180 angle with and without bmp, diffusion fx, moment cinebloom, ... On the technical side, I'm not exactly a begginer, I've worked a lifetime as a computer specialist to solve deep technical, programming and architecture problems. So, I've spent hours on resolve trying to color grade, trying to filter frequencies, ... I've played with highlights, luts, hdr, ... When you compare a movie shot on a Arri camera with the exact same footage shot on a gopro, there is quality difference, yes but there is also a feel of "distance from reality" that makes you instantly know you are watching a movie and not the news. I've assumed for a long time this "distance feel" came from the lens render. Or the sensor. Or both... On a forum, I've read a Arri representative hinted something about this magic being achieved using their olpf in front of the sensor. It cuts some specific higher freqs to give that movie feel. There is such a feel in your footage in the rowboat. I was about to give up, believing this type of look came only either (or both) from the lens rendering or the expensive olpf on camera like arri... or at least the sony fx3... And bam, I see this video that you shot with an s5 and with lumix lenses (below you wrote you used the 50mm and 24mm I think). I don't believe these two lenses have a rendering so far from the rendering of my lumix s 85mm. And I use the same sensor as you are. So I don't know what I'm missing. I guessed about raw or prores, maybe they store so much more information that the footage seems more cinematic?. Did you use an exotic diffusion filter only used by a 100 people an earth? 😃 If you have any idea or tip it would be very appreciated... Thanks again!
Hi. Thanks for your question. I think it comes down to a few things… because honestly… I’ve shot with the same camera and lenses and made it look terrible 😂 It was an overcast day which made the lighting conditions perfect 👌🏻 really easy to expose and shoot from any angle with soft light. That was the main thing. Then is the exposure. I usually aim for 1 stop over exposed on skin. It was just from the S5 internally. No raw. Enjoying these videos. I found the S5 easy to accidentally drop to 8 bit 😇. Also found the 100fps so so when grading. The 4:2:0 is a shame as I wish it held to 4:2:2 🧐. Either way still thinking about the S5?as a secondary camera. Can’t wait to hear about the autofocus on those lenses. Just don’t want that L mount 🤣🤣🤣, buying expensive glass all over again.
Thank you. Yeh I guess it all comes down to your needs. I don’t film at 100fps so for me it’s not an issue. I’m used to the Canon RF lenses so these are affordable in comparison 😂 but also moving onto cine lenses soon so might pick up some budget options. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
The footage looked fabulous! Did you record in Prores raw? Actually I have been looking for a full frame hybrid camera that produces a similar image as the Pocket 6K, and I must say the S5 is pretty much on par! Best value for money.

Hi. The S1H is an absolute beast! Yeh the image is incredible on both. The same sensor but more frame rate options in the S1H. The reason I went for the S5 is the form factor. Nice and small for vlogging as well. 💪🏻 hope this helps. Thanks for watching 🤩🙏🏻🎥
The reason the image looks so good is because the V-log processes the image the same way as Alexa's LogC and have a very similar gamma curve, while Sony Slog3 processed the image in a different way...Or so I've been told at least! Still surprised you liked the image of the S5 over the Fx6!

Awesome!! 🤩🎉 ooooo that’s a tough one. I was surprised with the 24mm I liked it more than I thought. The 85mm is soooooo nice with the compression but the 50mm is a safe all rounder and could probably be used more often depending on how/what you film. A 35mm would be cool too 😂😂 I know this probably doesn’t help but you can never have too many lenses. If I were to choose one, it would be the 50 cos it’s versatile. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🤩🎥

What's your opinion regarding the lower quality slow motion video above 60fps, particularly 1080 120/fps at 8bit 4:2:0, 20-28 Mbs? I've recently seen negative comments about the visual quality.
Hi Eddie. It doesn’t stand up to the 4K 10bit image and colours BUT if you just sprinkle little clips in here and there amongst other 4K clips, most people probably wouldn’t notice. I don’t really use slow motion much anymore so it’s not a necessity for me. If you need it, it may be worth checking out the S1H? Thanks for watching 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Coming from Fuji I'm still getting into the Lumix S5 but I'm really enjoying the camera. I was wondering there is a lot of Sony footage out there in regards to real estate videos shot in Slog. Do you guys think the S5 will be able to get similar results? There's a couple of real estate videos done with the S5/S1 but none look as good as the Sony videos.

Yes the full size HDMI is so much better than micro! It also doesn’t have a recording limit which is nice. Few other slow motion modes but it depends on your needs and budget. What are you leaning towards?
@@SamHolland honestly the best value per dollar is the S5... But I definitely want the s1 for the full size HDMI reliability. I also do some action sports photography, and I think the s1 shoots a little faster than the S5...

But stabilisation and dynamic range are two key elements to me. Plus the 20 -60 kit lens is my working range in video.

If you haven't spent your hard earned money on the camera and three lenses, how can you give any kind of honest review on the product. You have no cost related to your review, so you literally can't give a cost-to-gain ratio, and you've been 'sent it for free to give your honest feedback'. Very few companies are going to have you on the top of their list of influencers to send free stuff to again if you don't provide marketing (ie. semi decent opinion) for their product. Why would anyone trash a mediocre product with this in mind? @@SamHolland my R6 overheated when shooting a short film last week fYI heat warning flashed on ninja screen but I was shooting 4k on a hot day outside - R6 cooled down fast and didn't flash warning again

For under 2000 and in my case, 1300. There was no other FF camera that ticked so many boxes. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a new camera.

I'm wondering about the footage in the rowboat, was it recorded in camera or on an external recorder?
If external was it in raw?
My questions are because I have a S5 with the lumix 85mm.
I film in log internally in 10bits 4:2:2, balance colors with color sheet, at 180 angle with and without bmp, diffusion fx, moment cinebloom, ...
On the technical side, I'm not exactly a begginer, I've worked a lifetime as a computer specialist to solve deep technical, programming and architecture problems.
So, I've spent hours on resolve trying to color grade, trying to filter frequencies, ...
I've played with highlights, luts, hdr, ...
When you compare a movie shot on a Arri camera with the exact same footage shot on a gopro, there is quality difference, yes
but there is also a feel of "distance from reality" that makes you instantly know you are watching a movie and not the news.
I've assumed for a long time this "distance feel" came from the lens render. Or the sensor. Or both...
On a forum, I've read a Arri representative hinted something about this magic being achieved using their olpf in front of the sensor. It cuts some specific higher freqs to give that movie feel.
There is such a feel in your footage in the rowboat.
I was about to give up, believing this type of look came only either (or both) from the lens rendering or the expensive olpf on camera like arri... or at least the sony fx3...
And bam, I see this video that you shot with an s5 and with lumix lenses (below you wrote you used the 50mm and 24mm I think).
I don't believe these two lenses have a rendering so far from the rendering of my lumix s 85mm. And I use the same sensor as you are.
So I don't know what I'm missing. I guessed about raw or prores, maybe they store so much more information that the footage seems more cinematic?.
Did you use an exotic diffusion filter only used by a 100 people an earth? 😃
If you have any idea or tip it would be very appreciated...

I think it comes down to a few things… because honestly… I’ve shot with the same camera and lenses and made it look terrible 😂
It was an overcast day which made the lighting conditions perfect 👌🏻 really easy to expose and shoot from any angle with soft light. That was the main thing.
Then is the exposure. I usually aim for 1 stop over exposed on skin.
It was just from the S5 internally. No raw.

You are right there is something about it the image, detail, quality and colours are amazing .... yes to a colour grading work flow but would prefer it on the R6 for obvious reasons and also what settings you use on it as your stuff is always tickety-boo !

Enjoying these videos. I found the S5 easy to accidentally drop to 8 bit 😇. Also found the 100fps so so when grading. The 4:2:0 is a shame as I wish it held to 4:2:2 🧐. Either way still thinking about the S5?as a secondary camera. Can’t wait to hear about the autofocus on those lenses. Just don’t want that L mount 🤣🤣🤣, buying expensive glass all over again.

I don’t film at 100fps so for me it’s not an issue.
I’m used to the Canon RF lenses so these are affordable in comparison 😂 but also moving onto cine lenses soon so might pick up some budget options.

The footage looked fabulous! Did you record in Prores raw? Actually I have been looking for a full frame hybrid camera that produces a similar image as the Pocket 6K, and I must say the S5 is pretty much on par! Best value for money.

hey Sam, great vid. What made you choose the S5 over the S1H? Also, that "cinematic" look you spoke about with S5, is it comparable to the S1H? I'm torn between the two but ultimately it's the mini HDMI that's turning me off the S5. Thanks!
Hi. The S1H is an absolute beast! Yeh the image is incredible on both. The same sensor but more frame rate options in the S1H. The reason I went for the S5 is the form factor. Nice and small for vlogging as well. 💪🏻 hope this helps. Thanks for watching 🤩🙏🏻🎥
The reason the image looks so good is because the V-log processes the image the same way as Alexa's LogC and have a very similar gamma curve, while Sony Slog3 processed the image in a different way...Or so I've been told at least! Still surprised you liked the image of the S5 over the Fx6!

Yeh I liked the dynamic range of the FX6 and the colours but it just didn’t have that “look” and the S5 just has it! 🎥🤩 still love the FX6 though 😂 and the Canon.

Awesome!! 🤩🎉 ooooo that’s a tough one. I was surprised with the 24mm I liked it more than I thought. The 85mm is soooooo nice with the compression but the 50mm is a safe all rounder and could probably be used more often depending on how/what you film. A 35mm would be cool too 😂😂
I know this probably doesn’t help but you can never have too many lenses. If I were to choose one, it would be the 50 cos it’s versatile.

What's your opinion regarding the lower quality slow motion video above 60fps, particularly 1080 120/fps at 8bit 4:2:0, 20-28 Mbs? I've recently seen negative comments about the visual quality.
Hi Eddie. It doesn’t stand up to the 4K 10bit image and colours BUT if you just sprinkle little clips in here and there amongst other 4K clips, most people probably wouldn’t notice. I don’t really use slow motion much anymore so it’s not a necessity for me. If you need it, it may be worth checking out the S1H?

Coming from Fuji I'm still getting into the Lumix S5 but I'm really enjoying the camera. I was wondering there is a lot of Sony footage out there in regards to real estate videos shot in Slog. Do you guys think the S5 will be able to get similar results? There's a couple of real estate videos done with the S5/S1 but none look as good as the Sony videos.

I use both the S5 and a7S3, Slog has similair dynamic range as V-log, but V-log is better in terms of colors

Yes the full size HDMI is so much better than micro! It also doesn’t have a recording limit which is nice. Few other slow motion modes but it depends on your needs and budget. What are you leaning towards?
@@SamHolland honestly the best value per dollar is the S5... But I definitely want the s1 for the full size HDMI reliability. I also do some action sports photography, and I think the s1 shoots a little faster than the S5...

Thanks Sam - great to see how excited you are by the S5. it first came on to my radar because of another 'TH-cam' Josh Cameron when he did a stabilisation video on the S5 th-cam.com/video/LjV6M6WS9Qg/w-d-xo.html - I kind of forgot about it and started fixing on the R6 and A74. But stabilisation and dynamic range are two key elements to me. Plus the 20 -60 kit lens is my working range in video.

Personally I don't like those dull, grey colours and cinematic mode never for me
'For the price, the BEST Image I've seen'. Yeah, you didn't pay anything so I _bet_ it's the best image you've seen for the price. This is my problem with 'influencers' such as yourself. If you haven't spent your hard earned money on the camera and three lenses, how can you give any kind of honest review on the product. You have no cost related to your review, so you literally can't give a cost-to-gain ratio, and you've been 'sent it for free to give your honest feedback'. Very few companies are going to have you on the top of their list of influencers to send free stuff to again if you don't provide marketing (ie. semi decent opinion) for their product. Why would anyone trash a mediocre product with this in mind?

@@SamHolland my R6 overheated when shooting a short film last week fYI heat warning flashed on ninja screen but I was shooting 4k on a hot day outside - R6 cooled down fast and didn't flash warning again
