    I have a 2013 3.5 ecoboost. Got code P2099. Did notice my intake noise was low and did not hear the BOV sound when slowing down. Did a proper evaluation and all hoses and parts were ok. Pulled the BOV and sure enough the diaphragm had a hole. 40 bucks later and 5 mins under the truck and the truck is back to normal !!(fyi no need to remove the intercooler, just remove the fabric liner).

    I have a 2015 2.7 F-150. It's a different part, same principle, but the boost just isn't there like it was before. The boost gauge never goes past halfway, mostly sitting around a quarter of the way. And it has a hard time staying steady and I feel it when driving. Do you think the valve is bad?

    • @jackharding98
      @jackharding98  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't say for sure, but it definitely is worth looking into deeper. I'd take the valve off and inspect if it were my truck.

    Thanks for the video. I'm looking at mine now and when 12v is applied to the pins the valve has no movement until I push it down a bit, then it actuates. Shouldn't this valve open and close without assistance?

    • @jackharding98
      @jackharding98  ปีที่แล้ว

      I noticed that same thing on my original valve when I put 12v on it. I didn't try that to my new one. Yeah, i think the valve should work without assistance, although it would have some assistance when boost pressure is on it.

    What problem were you having? My turbos stop producing boost yesterday while driving. I have cleaned and replaced the mass air flows and checked my bypass solenoid. Cause this valve be stuck open causing my boost to leak out while running?

    • @jackharding98
      @jackharding98  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't expect this valve to be your issue, as it fails in a closed position. If boost was being built, but escaping then you would definitely hear that leak.

    I have a 2013 Ford F-150 XLT with the 3.5 ecoboost. About a year ago, I heard clicking sounds around the front bumper area which ended up going away on its own. I also haven't heard my turbo whistle in quite some time. Everything else on the truck is fine but just wondering if I replace this part, will I get my turbo whistle back?

    • @jackharding98
      @jackharding98  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course, I can't speak to your vehicle specifically, but otherwise, this valve does control the bypass blowoff of the turbo pressure, which is where the turbo whistle comes from.

    • @jackharding98
      @jackharding98  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a solenoid/relay most likely. Sorry I can't diagnose via TH-cam.

    • @jackharding98

      I would first check your Mass air flow sensor. It's on the airbox duct. Unplug the connector and then reconnect it real good. Then clear your code and see if it comes back. This is a common issue.

    So this is on the 2012 ecoboost as well? My intake comes off the throttle body a lot no matter how tight I get it.

    • @jackharding98
      @jackharding98  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, your 2012 has this valve. 2011 to 2014 are the same 3.5L ecoboost design. It's weird that your intake duct keeps coming off. I've not heard of that before. Are you thinking the boost pushes it off when the throttle plate closes? You could connect a scan tool and watch your MAP (mass air pressure) and see what happens when you let off the gas, especially after a hard throttle pull with good boost.

    • @regularguyfixes3142
      @regularguyfixes3142 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jackharding98 that’s exactly what it does. The boost is so much on a pull and let off like pulling out to pass it pushes it loose. I’ve cleaned the throttle body lip tried to make it grip. Scared to put silicone around the lip to hold for fear of it breaking down and sucking into engine. But yeah I’ll get a check engine light now and then fill a misfire and go check and it will be pushed back usually the bottom part is where air leak occurs. Lotta pressure at that connection under boost. Can’t figure out a way to make it hold.

    Great trouble shooting, You can do a delete of this valve all together and install a VTA, this will still communicate with ECM , No more codes and the bigger picture is, This VTA (vent to atmosphere) will Save your Turbos, the turbos will not have to deal with blow by Surge!

      The only thing vta will do that this valve won’t, is make noise. This valve just dumps pressurized air back into the air stream prior to the turbo without the noise.
