I made this but I added the glycerin with the oils, and it came out great. Thanks for a great guide and once my soap set's over night I'll find out how well it works
I could not find the calculator with glycerin; could you tell which did you use, or how to figure out how many of KOH we need in our recipe? And do we have to use glycerin in a liquid soap? I’ll be grateful for a hint :)
I love Catherine's book... it provides wonderful information. But sometimes seeing how it is done make things easier to understand. 1-2% is recommended for eo's + fo's but you should always check with your fragrance supplier.
Glycerin soap is the only way I make my liquid soap now, I love it. Esp for laundry soap. I don't cook mine though, once I see bubbles I cover it and let it sit till the next day then dilute. I've never seen it get that thick though at trace, must be my ingredients. Have a nice vacation!
When you purchase a cookbook, in essence you are purchasing the right to use the recipes. However, when an 'artist' posts a video they are the owner to its rights. TH-cam is simply the vehicle in which they use to freely promote it. So when the work is copied {either blatantly or implied}, the artist + his/her work has been compromised. All of the recipes + techniques that I post on Soaping101 are free to use for personal use but not for profit. Hope I was helpful in my explanation :)
THANK YOU so much! I made this today for the first time and it came out perfect. Hope it thickens after sequestering. If not, I've learned how to thicken it with a saline solution. I so appreciate you for sharing.
Hey! nobody told me class was a DAY early this week! Great tutorial Teach, as usual. Since using other soapmakers products and making my own CP soap I have gone off liquid soaps. This one looks good and I have the ingredients so I might give it a try. Thanks Teach. Have a great cruise. Luv, Rene x
Thats brilliant teach! I've made it this way once before and it tuned out great. Its lovely to see you do it as I couldn't find much info about this method at the time. Thanks and enjoy your cruise! Emma.
Hi Emma, Hello from Canada. Thks for your wonferful video. Very clear and to thr point. Hoping to make this soon. New fan. will check out your site. thanks
When I was still in KS I was sooo sure I was going to love Dr. B Peppermint Castile soap that I order a ginormous jug of it on Amazon. To me, it smelled like the disinfectant that the janitor used to clean the floors with in grade school. I couldn't abide the smell. Yuck.. I donated it with the big pump to an animal rescue. Great for shampooing the rescues but not for me.
I tried your recipe for liquid Castile soap and it worked the first time! Thank you so much. However, could you please confirm the measure of the KOH is dry or liquid? I measured in a measuring cup and it is considerably more than weighing on a scale. Thanks!
Hi Cynthia, more duck tape is a good idea, you know Debby, she goes through that stuff a mile a minute!! Phil is keeping his head down at the moment and this is worrying because you just know he's planning something. Have you noticed that we have gained a lot of new class mates recently, we have to warn them about the antics that Phil gets up to. Let me know if you see him. Luv, Rene x
Hello. First of all let me say this has been so very helpful. I wanted to ask after the soap is finished can butters, essential oils ect be added to this? Is there a book that you can recommend for soap making that also covers making shampoo bars?
I was wondering if it was possible to make this with using water instead of glycerine? I forgot to get some last time I was at my supply and was hoping it would still work out right.
Yes it is. Was I supposed to keep the glycerin over heat until clear or turn heat off? I will be getting a blender with metal because I do like this method. Thank you for your response. Becky
Great Lesson, Catie. Will definitely try this one for use at home. Hope you have a fantastic holiday. I too am going away end of this week, will be having a great rest (much needed) and doing some fishing. xx Linda
now how dis I miss this video....I tried making my own batch of liquid Castile and pour it directly into the soap dispenser smh #tragic took me 2 days to get it all out smh :-(
Will do Rene! I will get some more duct tape and yes, we have to warn the newbies about the uprisings that occur in class! We have a hurricane to deal with in the states at the moment, I have time to get that duct tape and put some precautions in place so nothing can harm Teach's property. No sightings as of yet. Debby must be" Hunkering" down for the storm!!! LOL
This is so great! It really seems to be faster than the classic method... I have 2 questions though. How much do you heat up your oils? Do they need to be at the same temperature as the glycerine-potassium mix? Thank you in advance, keep up the great lessons!
Thanks for the great video and for sharing! :>) I made this yesterday and it turned out just like yours nice and clear. At first when I diluted it it was still very thick so I added more water and let it cook for about 6 hrs. After the cook I shut it off before bed and it was a nice clear perfect consistancy. I awoke this morning and the bottom is perfect but the top layer is really thick again but clear. Why did that happen? I am reheating it again to see if that helps.
When is it best if you want color and fo's or eo's? And how much eo's should you use? I am still trying to experiment and learn liquid soaping. I have read Catherin Failor's book, but it is a bit confusing in certain areas.
Sweet video Teach. I really enjoyed this, by the way, I am dressed and ready for class. Unlike some of our jammie wearing students in the class. Oh and he still has not shaved, should you send him a bar of shaving soap and have him video the process when he does shave?? Have a great vacation and take lots of photos to share with us. Hugs and have fun!!!
LOL! Good one Rene, and I'm next ,it is headed this way next week! Thx for the well wishes, I have Family in Louisiana and haven't heard from them yet, power is out...x-Cynthia
I think this is one I'm going to try - seems fairly straight forward! Thanks, as always, for the lesson. Have a fabulous time on vacation and pick me up on you way to the airport, will you? ;-) xx MMM
So I have to come to school. 8( Go to work too. NO hurricane party looks like too. Isaac is not coming to visit the floida panhandle. Oh and nice class. Easyly distracted here. Never made liquid soap. Nice you can use it so soon.
So I have been POURING over these videos and LOVE THEM. Your vids are so interesting! I'm slowly getting equipment (I'm sort od appliance poor, lol) and so making some soap. Thanks for the great info!
You should definitely give it a try Rene. It is sooo easy! You are in charge while I am away so keep the 'kids' in line. Debbie has the duct tape if you need it :)
Hi new subbie here. Also very new to soap making ( haven't made any yet, just learning). So the comment about not copying puzzles me. When I buy a cookbook, I copy the recipe a few times till I feel comfortable to tweak it. Or are you talking about making $ off someone else's recipe?
Hi Hope your cruise was amazing. Wondering if you could do a tut on liquid dish soap. I have tried a YT recipe but it was a total flop. I'm guessing it's similar to this Castille but just dont know & dont want to waste any more time/ingreds on another flop.
I want to make this one but i'm a bit scared. I am building my confidence and will get it made. I went to a class in CA when I was out there for a class for my HRO job, but I will be honest I didn't learn as much from the somewhat hands on there as i have here on the web with you .
Another great video! I love them! I was already trying liquid castile soap, bit it wasn't working, as I wanted to, so I'll defintively try your receipe. Just a question: as you're using Water, isn't a preservation nedded? Best regards, Margarete
im new to soaping and wanted to know why did you use potassium hydroxide instead of sodium hydroxide .... is there a difference or can i use any one???
HELP. I used a standard CP soap recipe with Coconut, Palm, Olive oil etc the end result is there is absolutely no lather. I actually welcome low sudsing but no sudsing just doesn't feel right. Is this normal? is there anything I can do to fix it? I did run it thru the lye calculator Thanks
Darling this is the best video i found on youtube for making castile soaps
KOH is Potassium Hydroxide. It is the chemical necesary to make liquid soap.
NaOH Is Sodium Hydroxide. It is the chemical necessary to make Bar soap.
Did I miss the amount of glycerin you had added to the KOH? Would love to try this!!! Can’t wait!
Oooo boy! A cruise! How delightful! Have loads of fun and I just can't wait to see your new videos using the liquid castille soap!
I made this but I added the glycerin with the oils, and it came out great. Thanks for a great guide and once my soap set's over night I'll find out how well it works
Oh, and do you have any written directions of this recipe that I could print out?
This is the second time I watch this recipe and I love it!
I could not find the calculator with glycerin; could you tell which did you use, or how to figure out how many of KOH we need in our recipe? And do we have to use glycerin in a liquid soap? I’ll be grateful for a hint :)

Yes, absolutely. It works for any liquid soap recipe. Be sure to run your oils through a lye calculator :)

I agree, this process sure does make liquid soap easier. Thanks Emma!
Love your videos. I’ve been doing Bath/Skin products for a few years and just started last year with cold process. Tks for all the great tips

Castile soap is the best! Thanks for sharing your recipe.

Hi Emma, Hello from Canada. Thks for your wonferful video. Very clear and to thr point. Hoping to make this soon. New fan. will check out your site. thanks
Thanks so much! 😊
Good luck with your soaping! Because this recipe is for personal use, I did not use a preservative.
Great video. I have been reading about making castile soap and became more confused the more I read. Now it all makes sense. Can't wait to make some.
I agree her book is great, but as far as WHEN and HOW MUCH fo's or eo's and color to add, that is where I felt it confusing.
I enjoy your teaching style.😊♥️
How much vegetable glycerin?
Did you dilute at a 3 to 1 ratio for laundry soap, and did you dilute with water or glycerin? Thanks.
When I was still in KS I was sooo sure I was going to love Dr. B Peppermint Castile soap that I order a ginormous jug of it on Amazon. thank you for this video. How long can this product last?
How much glycerin, coconut and olive oil was used in the recipe? Please can anyone guide me with that. Thanks.
I just Made one just now! WOOT! THANKS!
your so good at soaping, and your voice is so soothing. I should really subscribe
This was super and efficient.. Thanks.
Glad it helped!
I just finished preparing it.
Wonderful!
Dilution water I added the sodium citrate.
Thank you ... you're a witch soap!
If dr. bronner's soap makes my skin burn like the dickens and causes clogged pores and super dry skin will this recipe likely do the same?

Thank you for sharing this method. It is the simplest Ive seen and now I'm inspired to try it! I hope you had fun on your cruise.

Well deserved Holiday Teach! Enjoy!!!
Hi I looked for this recipe on soaping101.com..it was all bar soap recipies no liquid.
You make it look so easy!
Maybe he is growing the beard to play the part of Santa for all of us this year! Off to make my list... its going to be long + detailed :)
can i use double boiler? i dont have any crock pot at home...
Will do Rene! I will get some more duct tape and yes, we have to warn the newbies about the uprisings that occur in class! Have fun Heather!
Yes, vegetable glycerin.
Seems like next week is a good vacation week! Have fun on your cruise! I'll be off visiting family!

Would you need a preservative since the water content? I love your videos! Thank you so much! One more thing...can you add fragrance?

I wanted to ask did you mean potassium hydroxide flakes
thanks

1 qt = 32 oz. So 5 qt = 160 oz. Your crockpot is big enough for this recipe.
A gift? Really? I seem to recall last time I was 'away', you + Monty ate all the chocolate doughnuts from my desk. LOL
Can I add milk to the soap? If so at what point in the process?
LOL! Good one Rene, and I'm next ,it is headed this way next week! Thx for the well wishes, I have Family in Louisiana and haven't heard from them yet, power is out...x-Cynthia
😯😯😯😯😯amazing thank you so much for teaching .

great recipe ... I'm just trying my crockpot goes .... many compliments for your recipes and your fabulous soaps!

Is the base of your stick blender plastic? The heat from the glycerin will certainly melt plastic so metal is preferred.
WOW, can u do it with olive oil only? And why not ;) Great video - as usual :))))
I want to make this one but i'm a bit scared. I am building my confidence and will get it made. I went to a class in CA when I was out there for a class for my HRO job, but I will be honest I didn't learn as much from the somewhat hands on there as i have here on the web with you .
Thank you very much.
Thank you so much!
oh I should have used this recipe😭
Another great video! I love them!
I was already trying liquid castile soap, bit it wasn't working, as I wanted to, so I'll defintively try your receipe.
Just a question: as you're using Water, isn't a preservation nedded?
Best regards, Margarete
Enjoy your vacation! Thank you for the video.
Excited to hear about your results :)
Are you and Louise going on a secret fishing trip together? :)
Have a great time + we can swap holiday stories in a couple weeks!
im new to soaping and wanted to know why did you use potassium hydroxide instead of sodium hydroxide .... is there a difference or can i use any one???
Oh you must try it...once. I hope you take your video camera along to share with class. Once bitten and your hooked!
Can this be a base for soap and not melted into water but made into bars like other melt and pour bases?
Lovin' the feetie pj's Phil!
I did something wrong because it started to melt my stick blender.
could thid be used to wash, hair, body, etc?

Thanks :)
Liquid and Translucent Soap Making.
I HOPE YOU ENJOYED YOU HOLLYDAYS. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE VIDEO : ) !
Potassium Hydroxide The lye used to make liquid soap
Enjoy your cruise!! Awesome video, thank you kindly for sharing with all of us dear! :-) Mel
Wonderful video. Have a great trip.x
Well get dressed and come to class, we can't have class without you.
You and Rene! Good luck trying to get Phil to behave :)
