KOH is Potassium Hydroxide. It is the chemical necesary to make liquid soap.
NaOH Is Sodium Hydroxide. It is the chemical necessary to make Bar soap.

I could not find the calculator with glycerin; could you tell which did you use, or how to figure out how many of KOH we need in our recipe? And do we have to use glycerin in a liquid soap? I’ll be grateful for a hint :)

I love Catherine's book... it provides wonderful information. But sometimes seeing how it is done make things easier to understand. 1-2% is recommended for eo's + fo's but you should always check with your fragrance supplier.

Yes, absolutely. It works for any liquid soap recipe. Be sure to run your oils through a lye calculator :)

Glycerin soap is the only way I make my liquid soap now, I love it. Esp for laundry soap. I don't cook mine though, once I see bubbles I cover it and let it sit till the next day then dilute. I've never seen it get that thick though at trace, must be my ingredients. Have a nice vacation!

When you purchase a cookbook, in essence you are purchasing the right to use the recipes. However, when an 'artist' posts a video they are the owner to its rights. TH-cam is simply the vehicle in which they use to freely promote it. So when the work is copied {either blatantly or implied}, the artist + his/her work has been compromised. All of the recipes + techniques that I post on Soaping101 are free to use for personal use but not for profit. Hope I was helpful in my explanation :)

THANK YOU so much! I made this today for the first time and it came out perfect. Hope it thickens after sequestering. If not, I've learned how to thicken it with a saline solution. I so appreciate you for sharing.

When I was still in KS I was sooo sure I was going to love Dr. B Peppermint Castile soap that I order a ginormous jug of it on Amazon. To me, it smelled like the disinfectant that the janitor used to clean the floors with in grade school. I couldn't abide the smell. Yuck.. I donated it with the big pump to an animal rescue. Great for shampooing the rescues but not for me.

I tried your recipe for liquid Castile soap and it worked the first time! Thank you so much. However, could you please confirm the measure of the KOH is dry or liquid? I measured in a measuring cup and it is considerably more than weighing on a scale. Thanks!

Hi Cynthia, more duck tape is a good idea, you know Debby, she goes through that stuff a mile a minute!! Phil is keeping his head down at the moment and this is worrying because you just know he's planning something. Have you noticed that we have gained a lot of new class mates recently, we have to warn them about the antics that Phil gets up to. Let me know if you see him. Luv, Rene x

We have a hurricane to deal with in the states at the moment, I have time to get that duct tape and put some precautions in place so nothing can harm Teach's property. No sightings as of yet. This is so great! It really seems to be faster than the classic method... I have 2 questions though. How much do you heat up your oils? Do they need to be at the same temperature as the glycerine-potassium mix? Thank you in advance, keep up the great lessons!

  • @mrssoapmistress

Thanks for the great video and for sharing! :>) I made this yesterday and it turned out just like yours nice and clear. At first when I diluted it it was still very thick so I added more water and let it cook for about 6 hrs. After the cook I shut it off before bed and it was a nice clear perfect consistancy. I awoke this morning and the bottom is perfect but the top layer is really thick again but clear. Why did that happen? I am reheating it again to see if that helps.

When is it best if you want color and fo's or eo's? And how much eo's should you use? I am still trying to experiment and learn liquid soaping. I have read Catherin Failor's book, but it is a bit confusing in certain areas.

Hi new subbie here. Also very new to soap making ( haven't made any yet, just learning). So the comment about not copying puzzles me. When I buy a cookbook, I copy the recipe a few times till I feel comfortable to tweak it. Or are you talking about making $ off someone else's recipe?

Is the base of your stick blender plastic? The heat from the glycerin will certainly melt plastic so metal is preferred.
