I hate to be "that guy," but the only flowers you can put in MP soap that won't eventually rot & mold are cornflower & calendula. And, they must be thoroughly dried. Happy soaping!

One tip, 12:45 if you want the flowers inside the Soap, not floating as it is, just put a small layer of M&P Soap, than the flowers, wait a few seconds and fill the rest of the mould . By doing that, the Soap Will last longer with the flowers inside of the middle of the Soap rather than hardening on the top of the Soap.

Very nice. I think what i would try with the large bars, because the petals tend to float to the top, is make a half bar first and let it set, then pour the other half of the melted soap on top. That way, the flower petals end up in the center of the bar.

There's a big debate that melt and pour soap is not real soap, but it is. The melt and pour base is cured cold or hot process soap and simply contains more glycerin to enable melting so that you can create your desired soap without lengthy cure times and toxic fumes at home.

Mix and pour soap based is basically made from lye solution + oils, only already saponified. MP soap based is already a soap, making another soap.

Hey Jen! 👋 Cool craft idea, used to do preschool & elementary art programs, never got around to soap or candle making. My dad used to melt down old candles & pour in square litre milk containers surrounded in ice to give them a crackly surface effect. Have been fascinated with dipping tiny pods or cones in laquer or epoxy for jewelry. Can use fresh flowers, possibly predried in silica gel. People save wedding flowers that way, costs alot! Have been researching about history of Clichy millfiori 'whimsy' paperweights that glass factories used to produce. Flower canes ( & candy) are similarly created in polymer & wax for candle coating, etc. Photographed milkweed flower recently with naturally occuring 3-D 'magnified' visual to the 1/2sphere millfiori! Will try a paperweight cast kit! Thanks for vid! 😀

I might have to try this. Say for your bars, why don't you try filling the mold only half way, then add your flowers and let it set up before pouring in the other half? It would set all the flower bits right into the center of the soap.

  • @brightpurpleviking

When u add botanicals into a melt n pour or even on top ur soap will turn brown. That’s not making homemade soap it’s melt n pour so it’s already made for u. A lot of soap makers like me use melt n pour to make embeds for our cold process soap that’s made from scratch. But, rule of thumb of soap making or soap melting Never use food coloring. Food coloring is dangerous to get in ur eyes and it can stain everything it’s not meant for soap any kind of soap. I’m not trying to be a pain in the ass, but hun if u make a video that’s awesome just make sure ur not showing ppl a dangerous thing. That’s not cool. However they make melt n pour I think from Bramble Berry that is formulated to keep additives suspended so it doesn’t sink on u. U can make a glycerin soap w walnut shell powder or poppy seeds for exfoliation. Get urself some micas or coloring liquid that is safe for private areas and ur eyes that won’t stain everything. Cured is not when a soap sits in a mold. Cured is how long a soap sits after the saponification process is finished and the only reason we let the soap sit 4-8 weeks is for excess water to evaporate. That process starts when the oil’s and the lye water solution comes together and they bond creating a new chemical makeup known as soap. There are 2 ways this happens 1, through hot process because ur cooking the soap and putting it through gel phase and that’s the same process how u make glycerin soap. Through hot process and then when ur soap is fully cooked the saponification process is completely. The other way is what I do and that’s cold process soap. Most bring on gel but it’s not required. I gel my soap’s. U can cut it between 18-24 hrs depending on ur water discount if any. It takes 48-72 hrs for the specification process to fully complete. Ur soaps are safe after this point even though u should ph them especially if ur selling them. If u don’t let them sit or “ cure” to evaporate the water then they won’t last really long. So u want them to sit for a good period of time so they can get hard. My soaps sit only 3 weeks but I do a 48% Water discount. I think it’s great that u wanna make soap have at it but ur not using safe dyes and ur miss using terms and ppl no knowing better r listening to u and then they are going to do this and throw a soap in the bath w there little one’s thinking there doing a good thing and that’s going to get into a child’s eye and possibly dye there skin and hurt there eye and then that parent is going to tell the ER Dr. I watch a lady in TH-cam making soap and I did what she said n then she’s going to tell them the random TH-cam lady said to use food coloring so I did. N that’s not going to end well for the mother and or if they sell it or give it away. It will be almost as bad as the ER so that’s why experienced soap makers r saying what they are saying to u.

To those claiming, “Finally, a soap without lye,” here’s a clarification: the base of melt-and-pour soap still contains lye (sodium hydroxide). Additionally, using melt-and-pour soap isn’t the same as making soap from scratch. It’s more like soap crafting or recreating, as the foundational hard part of the work (saponification) has already been completed by someone else for you.

I'm not a soap expert, but I've used tiny amounts of food dye with glycerine soaps, and as long as it mixes 100% with the soap it never caused issues for me. I have had issues with too much turmeric or other strong natural dyes (like blueberries, etc), but not on skin on washcloths.

Hi from Ireland 🇮🇪. You mentioned purple bee balm. Does it look like a thistle flower without thorny spikes? Love the video thanks ☘

Hopefully you didn't use fresh flowers because those will go bad quickly when put in soap. Dried are the only ones that can be used, but they eventually go bad as well. I do not recommend putting any dried flowers in the actual soap, you could decorate the tops of the soaps with a small amount but I wouldn't do any more than that.

Food grade ingredients are different from cosmetic grade ingredients. Using food coloring can irritate the eyes or stain the skin.
