    In high school, I became very good friends with a JP foreign exchange student who had been interested in Pokémon as a kid but had lost interest at some point. He traded me a whole bunch of exclusive event Pokémon, and one of them happened to be that shiny Arceus. I have an interesting fact about Arceus
    So in gen 4 at least, Arceus will change types depending on which plate it is holding even if it doesn't have the Multi-Type ability. For all intents and purposes, Multi-Type's only effect is preventing moves that affect your held item, such as knock off, trick etc, from working. The game is coded to make Arceus change forms depending on its plate regardless of its ability.
    So then, that means that through glitching or cheating, it's possible to have an Arceus with another ability, but still have it change type depending on its plate. And it's also possible to remove or change its plate in battle while it is transformed.
    And this is when it gets interesting. In Platinum, the plate gets knocked off, stolen or whatnot, but nothing else happens. Arceus is still in the type of the plate until the end of the battle. Judgement's type will change, but that's it.
    ...however, in Diamond and Pearl only, something crazy happens. The plate gets knocked off or stolen... and then Arceus transforms, in the middle of the battle. Like Castform would. This is an entirely unused mechanic, with an unused text, that is completely unable to be seen normally. But Arceus can actually change forms in the middle of the battle this way. I think this indicates that Arceus was first supposed to be able to do that, but then they changed it and decided to make it immune to item shenanigans instead. And of course, it was removed in Platinum because it was unused. But it's still there in Diamond and Pearl, for basically no one to ever see.

    the driftloon in the legendary cutscene never surprised me bc I noticed the opening animation uses the actual map. when you first start up the game with no save file on it and watch the opening, you can see items sitting on the unexplored routes, but once you've played them and collected those items, they're gone from the opening cutscene. using the actual maps as they are is apparently just something dppt does, so the driftloon being visible makes perfect sense.

      To be honest, I just see the "meow system" as evidence that the creative types are busy working on distractions rather than making the game functional, playable, or fun.
      Also, as a consumer and player, find it to be a really convenient excuse that "most animals do not make noises" so we don't hear half the pokemon cry in the overworld. They're fictional creatures, let me hear them. I miss the gen 3 effort where all pokemon on a route had a rare chance of making a cry in the overworld.

They're expected to fully ship these games in just 2-3 years, which is clearly not enough time, and with no possibility of a delay if development hits a snag. It's also worth noting that, in the Japanese Pokemon Stadium 1 (or Pokemon Stadium 0), you're able to obtain a Pikachu that knows Surf (especially important since transferring it to Yellow is the only way to play the surfing mini-game). The Surf Pikachu was added to the international Pokemon Stadium 1. However, in Japan, their Pokemon Stadium 2 didn't get Surf Pikachu, leaving it exclusive to Stadium 1. So even though Japan's Stadium 2 (and thus the international Stadium 1) seems like a straight-up superior version of Japan's Stadium 1 in every single way, Stadium 1 still has at least one thing exclusive to it (or you can just hack, of course).

    Random ORAS fact, but there's an invisible Kecleon in he Mossdeep Space Center, hiding in the space suit. That's the only fact I've got off the top of my head. Another little known Pokémon connection made in the series is between Dragonite and Kingdra, who are archenemies, possibly because Kingra are naturally violent and enjoy causing ships to sink while Dragonite are peaceful and regularly rescue sailors. It could also be theorized that Kingra are the cause of the Whirl Islands' namesake and whirlpools in general due to their ability to create them.

    Speaking of Pokémon Stadium, I have a little theory; I believe Pokémon were designed to have multiple colors, because in the Stadium games you could give your Pokémon a different color based on the nickname.
    These games were the first to give Pokémon their full color and were created before shiny Pokémon even existed.
    If you look at the Kanto starters you can see that the middle evolutions also have different colors, with the last evolution sharing their color palette with the first in line.
    This is al just speculation tho, I have no idea of it ever came up in an interview, but I like it nonetheless and wish this was done in more games

    • @zedtass4923
      @zedtass4923 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      There's also a reference to their connection in pokepark 2! Iirc, Trubbish was avoiding Minccino, because he was scared that Mincinno would want to clean him, and you had to play tag with Trubbish and then Minccino would explain to him that she liked things to be clean, but also respected the boundaries of Trubbish and would never try to clean him without permission.

    one weird Gen 1 oddity I learned recently is that in Gen 1, Pokemon can't learn 2 moves during 1 level-up unless they levelled up in the daycare. Since Vaporeon was for whatever programmed to learn both Haze and Mist at level 42 in Yellow, that means it can only learn Mist if you level it up in the daycare - if you get it to 42 normally, it will only try and learn Haze. And weirdly, Vaporeon has never been able to learn Mist since.
