    Thanks very much for this video. I've owned Poodles for many years, but have never seen anyone give such a thorough brushing out job. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! My Poodles have an every month standing appointment with our groomer. It makes it so much easier for the groomer and the owner to take care of the Poodles. Of course, Poodles have hair (not fur) and their hair needs to be brushed daily, just like human hair. Again, thank you! Excellent video!

    Poodles apparently like to be bathed and groomed. I watched champion poodles being groomed at the Westminster KC dog show in the benching area. They are so well behaved. I LOVE this breed.

    After 18 months of learning the hard way I think I’ve finally figured out how to keep my moyen poodle relatively mat free. Thank you so much for this video and I was thrilled to see the Chris Christensen spray - I just got the conditioner and detangler in the mail today and am in love with their Mark 2, I wasted so much money on all the wrong brushes! I keep seeing pin brushes and am debating if I need one of those too.

I've been watching many other groomers work on dogs and I have the basics of how to buzz a dog, but I wasn't sure how to brush a curly haired dog- so thank you! ^w^

    • @msdixie1972

      I’ll tell you keeping them brushed is key. If you don’t do it at least (least!) once a eeek, you’re gonna have mats. Then you go from nice long coat to having to shear them down to the level of the mats when you have to take them out. I groom my two doodle mixes (shih poo and Shepadoodle) (gsd mix). Using a spray when combing and brushing is important, and having them clean when you give them a full groom will help mounds. I would also advise saving for a professional clipper, a table and a splurge would be a forced air fryer. I have the shernbao 4hp snd it was around $175 and will pay for itself over time since I have two I groom at home. I bought the supplies my friend who is a groomer recommended and it’s improved our grooming success tremendously. Mostly, we get quality time with them and that means a lot! ❤ plus, we know we aren’t hurting or compromising them 🎉

    I am a 10 month old standard poodle furmom 😊 He does not like to be groomed even if we started right away trainning him. (Him sniffing the tools,bath,razor,etc.) always make sure he got a chance to play, burn his energy and make sure his needs are met. He is going to the grommer since 12 weeks old always with treat and favorite toy. However, he does not like it and pull away. I feel bad for him and I am wondering if it hurts him? We need to brush him everyday and would love to make this easier for both of use. Thank you for your video it was so informative and just wondering if you have more tips for the home maintenance ? Thanks keep up the good work

    I’m really interested in poodle and poodle mix coats! I’m an assistant stylist and I think I’ve learnt more through TH-cam than I have in my actual salon… it’s nice to know the different uses for each type of slicker! The CC brushes have a weird hold on me, I can’t wait to be able to afford them 😂

    • @QuadraticCoStanza
      @QuadraticCoStanza 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just got a mark 2 for mine and I’m so obsessed with it; almost 10 years ago I got a Mason Pearson hairbrush for my birthday and I swear it brings me joy every single time I use it (this justifies the cost in my head lol) the CC brushes remind me of those, you can’t even compare them to the junk chi ones I bought at petsmart. Check resale shops online like Poshmark, every once and a while you can snag a gently used one for a bargain.

    Amazing and informative video! I was wondering if it was possible/what kind of brush to use in order to keep the tighter curls in the coat or would a short coat help maintain the curls? What affect would this have on matting? I'm looking towards getting a poodle and I really prefer the tighter curls, but I still want to make sure the dog is well groomed and matt free so that it can be comfortable and happy while working in hotter weather. Any advice would be much appreciated and I apologise if this question has already been answered. Stay safe everyone!

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Hi, the best way to maintain the curls is after the grooming session must the coat with water and the hair will curl back up.
      Use a comb and not a brush to maintain curls. It's a lot of work to maintain curls. The more curly the more mats can form.
      Daily combing is ideal. You can still use a brush to brush the coat daily and then must the coat lightly to curl back up

    there is a big difference between you and your gentle handling and talking and other groomers on poodle grooming vids. Kara that's funny. My standard poodle is only six or seven months already been to the groomer 3 times. I want to start grooming him my self. With this corona bat stew flu going on I haven't been able to see what's going on with groomer or the new vet. My vet is retired ,the corona made up his mind to retire. I trusted him but anyway back to your comment,yea my dog sees that brush and goes not again. I bought a couple different brushes but after watching vids I have to get combs for sure. Good luck with your brushing chores. Peace.

      High value trays help. Tiny pieces of Chicken or beef. My dog knows there will be a jackpot of praise and tiny but multiple treats after. There is no difference between tiny trays or big treats, they just swallow anyway, so go small.

    I was thinking about standard poodle as my next dog, but I don´t have patience for this brushing and I´m inconsistent. But whenever I asked experienced people, the answered: "Oh, it´s not big deal with sport cut you have no work with it, you just shave him once a month. It´not that bad."
    Well they were wrong. And my worries were reasonable. Thank you.

    • @ivyrose779
      @ivyrose779 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve done research about grooming poodles and doodles and my only experience with them is my 5 month old doodle, so keep that in mind. I feel like you can get by with just a comb for a while as long as you keep them mat free. After that, to me, it’s fine to get a slicker brush that works for you to use in addition to your comb. The slicker brush tines need to be long enough for your dogs coat. Once you get that down and get more experience under your belt, you can decide if and what you need to add tool wise. Imo, it’s silly to say that you must have all of those different combs and brushes for at home grooming.

    For sanitary reasons id start with the head then do the rest of the body

    Is it possible to bathe and brush weekly and then leave coat in between?

    Why go upward with the brush ?

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi,, brushing upwards helps to separate the hair and brush out any tight hair, knots or dirt compared to brushing down. Brushing both up and down is ideal

      @@LoveofGrooming thanks i understand I’ve been brushing mine upward since I seen this video but brushing down is easier that’s why I ask.

    What should I do if my dog does not like its back legs being brushed?

    • @tulsisevadasi

      I would touch his/her legs and reward gradually working up to touching with the brush and comb with lots of praise.

    I tried to buy 2 items from your Amazon store, but every time I put an item in my cart it does not show your shop as the seller. I've tried multiple times...sorry!

    Man, your dog really behaves. My mini poodle hates when you fuss with her while you coat or brush her. PetSmart really beat her up before we found a great groomer.

      Yes, the skill of the groomer REALLY makes a difference PLUS how frequently you take the Poodle to the groomer.

    I would never use any of those brushes they just rip your dogs skin open , try brushing your own hair with that and see how it hurts , there are many other options of good brushes that are more gentle especially for poodle

      Rip the skin open? This has never happened in over 40 years of Grooming and never heard of a groomer saying this. Why would you think this? Are you a groomer?
      Most likely combs can rip skin if used incorrectly.

      Dog skin is so different to human skin. Ours is thin and fragile. Dogs are much thicker and tougher
