thank you! One of my poodles keeps getting ear infections and so I've had his ears trimmed short so they'd get more air and i mentioned to the vet my plan to do some very gentle (with my fingers) routine ear plucking/trimming between grooming (always every 6-8 weeks) along with an ear wash twice a week and he said it sounded like a good plan. So, your video is very clear, lots of tips, and maybe less trauma on the ear canal if it's done a bit at a time. It did seem to happen that he'd get the ear infections within 2 weeks or so of grooming. Not that it's anyone's fault, but like you mentioned, it can cause some ear infections, and my guy just seems predisposed to infection anyway. Thank You!!!
I really liked this video! You descriped SO well why it is necessary to pluck a poodles ear allthough there is many diffent oppinions about that matter ;) And thanks for the tips about it. Btw... I just looooved how your diva in the beginning of the video just lets you cuddle her on her chest while she just sits and thrones like "yes, you may touch your queen" ;)
its nice seeing someone caring for the dogs well being... I've been going to a dog grooming course its been a few days now and they don't seem to care when the dog cries when they pull it out of their ears... :(
Thank you for such a great tutorial on this. We have a 5 1/2 month old poodle that started her grooming process and hates the ear pulling. So we are going to help the groomer and do a little everyday or so using your method. Hopefully this will get her over the hump so the groomer won’t have such a fight on her hands. We love our groomer as she has taken care of all,our dogs for 15yrs or so.
That is one gorgeous poodle you have. I'd love to style mine like that but she is more of a farm dog. Couldn't let her hair grow out so much without it getting full of sticks and dirt. Maybe this winter I'll give it a shot
Thank you so much. My groomer wouldn't do my poodle cause he is not very calm like you're there. So he ended up having to be sedated at gets office for infection in one ear. Costly and poor dog was out of it for a whole day afterward was sad. I'm going to have to do this myself now. Also going to attempt to do haircut too.
Oh and I wanted to say how well behaved and your dog is. You helped me feel comfortable and confident enough to do this. Hopefully he will let me do this with not to much trouble. I'm a German shepherd owner for 25 yrs. My wife had enough with the vacuuming of dog hair. She always wanted a non shedding dog and loves poodles so ,I'm surprised how much I took to this guy. So much love. Thanks again for your time and listening to me ramble on. Peace
Thanks for your video. I have a Mini Poodle and his hair grows in like that. I didn't have that problem with my other poodle. The sound of the hair coming out makes me cringe. I'm going to try this at home. Thanks!
This is exactly how my father does his black poodles ears, and the dog does not feel it so much, they get used to it. Then he uses the ear rinse. My dog got so many ear infection it is very necessary in humid climates. One difference is we wipe off the hemostat on a paper towel frequently. After several years of doing this there seems to be a lot less hair then when he was younger, possibly from repeated pulling some of the hairs stopped growing.
Wow.. you're certainly bringing back memories to me, we lost our gray/ silver poodle 🐩 when I was a kid on Labor Day holiday 😢, we were trying to groom him and we wanted to finish up the next day, so that he wouldn't get dirty and mangled I'm guessing since my grandpa was doing the grooming decided to tie him to the table leg and we'd finish up in the morning, but my sister discovered him dead the next morning instead. He wasn't used to being tied up so I guess he was trying to get loose from the table leg and strangled himself 😢 and boy we cried and was just devastated over this incident. So looking at him was just a reminder to me, his name was Tippy by the way and he was up in age also, but he was smaller than your poodle. Cheers good job.
@@LoveofGrooming Well I guess he didn't want him to get into dirty things and mess up his fur since he was going to finish the grooming in the morning, Tippy had never had restraints on him before so I guess he was trying to get untied and instead he was actually making the restraint tighter around his neck and choked himself instead!! You're actually the first person I've ever told this to, and it took a long long time for my family to have closure over this tragedy, he was a baby when my family brought him home and he was relatively a senior dog when he died.. 😭we missed him terribly terribly terribly 😭.It was just a big mistake that's all, we should have taken him to the groomer like we used to.. I guess he wanted to save some money and do it himself.
poor baby, she is being so good... need to do this on Shih Tzu, do you have a video for the hair on them in the ear Canal? This is great... Thank you for sharing.
She said in the beginning of the video that dogs with straight hair do not really need to be plucked, just trimmed and she said Shih Tzus specifically. The Shih Tzu has straight hair that does not curl back and grow into the ear canal, like the Bichon and Poodle. And I have read that Shih Tzus are prone to ear infections... remember she said in the video that sometimes plucking can cause ear infections? So i'd talk to your vet as well as Love of Grooming, she seems to know dogs well.
Thank you! My poodle does not stay still like yours does. She shakes her head every time I try to get the hemostat in there to pull out the hair that has grown into her ear canal.
She is a BEAUTY! I have a Mismarked Black (& white) SPOO and she will not sit still for any part of grooming, ears, feet, face. . Forget about it! I have to gear up for the fight every time and she has been groomed since 6 weeks old!
I have a standard poodle as well. My groomer never plucks the ear even when I ask for it, so I’m taking matters into my own hands. When you pick out the fur, does it easily come out (as in already loose) or do you have to literally pluck them?
Our mini poodle same... groomer won’t touch. Having issue with curly hair in ear canal... he sits still for the plucking, so he knows it’s necessary.. we don’t like the sound, but he’s ok.. .. will try to pluck a little each day.. (just don’t try to touch his paws)
My neighbor has a Maltese and MaltiPoo. Each time I babysit them, I am shocked at the state of their ears! And each time I give them both a complete grooming, ears, face, body, anal glands, nails, bathing, and brushing out, and clipping. The last time I looked in their ears, chunks of dirt came out with tweezers. CHUNKS!!!!! So why are you waiting? These are both high maintenance dogs that need grooming every 3 weeks or 1 month. Ears should be checked weekly, and teeth brushed 3 times per week. Very prone to gum and teeth issues too. However, the good news is, that they don't get issues like cancer as much as big dogs. Take a Q tip and gently try to pull hair out of canal first, then pluck off with forcep tweezers, and repeat. Dip QTip in Vit E oil and twirl around in ear canal picking up sticky wax. Once the hair and visible dirt are gone, time to use Virbac Epi Otic or Vetoquinol Ear Cleaner. Fill ear to top with this liquid, and massage base of ear for 15 - 30 secs. You should hear a thok-thok-thok sound of liquid swirling in there. Let them shake it out. Repeat. Then Qtip off excess inside ear, and swap down with more liquid, and use a damp cloth on external hair to remove residue. Done.
My toy poodle has never let me come close to the ear hair! As soon as I lift his ear he squirms around so much that I don’t stand a chance! I actually had a dream last night that he let me do it, that’s how much it bothers me. Seems like every other poodle on earth enjoys it. He has sooo much hair in his ears 🥲
She obviously doesn't know how to do this ...I'm a 20 year experience groomer and ear plucking has to be done .. it doesn't hurt all that much and it has to be done to prevent ear infections and yeast infections
@@LoveofGrooming I was looking for a good video to share with a lady in a fb group that was having troubles with ear infections, she didn't know about plucking. try placing the powder on your finger tips. Try (3) people; one to hold the head, one the hold the light the other to remove the hair.
Thanks for sharing this great instructional video. I really appreciated your warnings and caution at the beginning. Your Poodle is so pretty!

So tragic. Why would he tie him to the table all night long? That wasn't necessary.

Ramble On My Shih tzu gets ear infections if ears are not plucked.
Does that hurt her at all?
Perfect 👌
Thank you so much!!
Does all poodles has that problem? And how often you need to do it?
at last some one who is gentle and caring for the dog and not treating it as a job that has to be done at any cost
Thank you! My poodle does not stay still like yours does. She shakes her head every time I try to get the hemostat in there to pull out the hair that has grown into her ear canal.
Does she have a sore ear? If her ears are not infected, she may just be sensitive and it may be better to just trim the hair instead of plucking them.
She is a BEAUTY! I have a Mismarked Black (& white) SPOO and she will not sit still for any part of grooming, ears, feet, face. . Forget about it! I have to gear up for the fight every time and she has been groomed since 6 weeks old!

Hi, the hair in the ears should come out easy. Never pull the hair if in too tight. Take a little bit of hair at a time.

Does this pull the hair out at the root or is it just pulling off the loose hairs?
It comes out from the roots and only if loose.
What is the powder? Why do you sprinkle in the ear?
Hi, this is the powder that I use amzn.to/3288CcL it's for grip to pluck the hair and it keeps the ear dry.
“maybe there’s a monster in there; just kidding” djsnsnw
Is it painful 😖 for a dog or not ?
Its not painful unless the ear is inflamed or the hair is firmly on the skin. Only pluck the hair if it comes out easily.
Oh my gosh. I have a poodle and a matipoo. I never looked in their ears

Maybe he has an ear infection 🤔 or some dogs are so sensitive on their ears.
My yorkiepoo just doesnt have any hair in his ears
My poodle doesn’t get this much hair in her ears. I groom her myself and her ears are hair free 🤔
Hi, each Poodle is different. One of my Poodles doesn't grow much hair inside his ears however my other do.
Can I see the cut you have on your baby? I really love the head. I'm trying to learn to do cuts on my baby. Thanks for your time
