C4 Corvette Out with F.I. and in with carbureted nitrous. Oh, boy, did I open a can of worms here!

  • Simplifying is the fastest way to reliability. The fewer the moving and/or electronic parts, the more reliable it is. However, there is nothing worse than getting the major stuff done, only to find out there are unforeseen issues. I knew the throttle cable, detent cable and cruise control were going to be a challenge, but I didn't figure on the hood. I think I have come up with a plan to modify the original, which was my intention from the start, but I was hoping to use an off the shelf cleaner until I had time to make the modifications. Since the FI was giving me fits, I thought I would simplify with a carburetor and add some go fast juice to boot. Since C4s have kind of a bad rap, I figure adding some laughing gas is bound to add to the cool factor. I was considering modifying the Crossfire intake to accept two carburetors but after closer examination, I realized it had very tiny ports. Believe it or not they are about half the size of the ones on the heads! Needless to say, that idea is out. It won't draw hard enough to feed the carbs. Nonetheless, watch me as I convert the antiquated and underpowered FI system to an even more antiquated Carburetor and Nitrous. Will I get it running by the end of this video? How fast will it be? You will have to watch and see.

@@essigspeed a lot of times a low rise air cleaner is used in these carb swaps. Otherwise people just cut in a scoop in the hood. Not ideal if you want to return to stock in the future.

You hit the nail on the head with that one. Check out part 2 of the nitrous swap. I think you will like my solution.
