- Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal), a successful investment banker, struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. Despite pressure from his father in law Phil (Chris Cooper) to pull it together, Davis continues to unravel. What starts as a complaint letter to a vending machine company turns into a series of letters revealing startling personal admissions. Davis’ letters catch the attention of customer service rep Karen (Naomi Watts) and, amidst emotional and financial burdens of her own, the two form an unlikely connection. With the help of Karen and her son Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.

This movie is sooo underrated. It's a perfect movie and I can't believe Jake Gyllenhaal hasn't got an Oscar yet.

Saw the trailer then movie... def not was I was expecting. I thought this would be a boring & hollow artsy flick. It's way better than that. And if you like Gyllenhaal you'll love it. The dialogue was sharp & unexpectedly hilarious. The characters, acting and story are really original. Solid 8/10.

I saw it last night, it was a little pretentious but they did a good job making believable and interesting characters, and Jake was fantastic as usual, it was a solid movie I thought

I really suggest watching this. All the actors were amazing, especially Jake Gyllenhaal. I expected it to be a boring movie but it's not. I started watching for Jake Gyllenhaal but ended loving everything about it. 10/10

I can feel him and barely know how suffer he is through that pain. losing his wife, missing someone he couldn't met again, also traumatic things. and how he try to recover his wound and move on after that, but we all know we can't "just move on". especially from someone we love the most.

@@drbren12 I'd say he blocks all emotions about his wife when she dies. He refuses to admit he loved her, he was basically broken himself. So he breaks everything appart in his life only to understand how he works, the same way he does with all those things he tries to figure out. By the end all the good memories comes back, and he can finally grieve and start again as a new, more fulfilled person.
i loved this movie, but this trailer really 'softens' the film, the movie is more dark and serious than this trailer is showing
It's crazy that everyone comments Jake's performance but not Jean Marc Vallée's genius.
Don't get me wrong. Jake was absolutely perfect.

Idk about you guys, but I genuinely love Jake Gyllenhaal movies because these movies seem like his artsy,metaphorical peice of his mind and his scattered thoughts, and he plays this very unique character which is very different but very authentic to his own movies and the other characters he played.

I actually have to disagree. Even though it showed more than it should've, the premise of this movie is that the main character is trying to get over his wife's death by deconstructing and reconstructing his marriage and his life.

Although my situation wasn't as severe, I believe we can all relate to having moments in our past that we wish we could demolish completely. The idea, though in a smaller nutshell, is to use it as fuel to create a new you, acknowledge what you did or didn't do or say and let it go. You can't change the past no matter what you say or think or ask God for, will ever change that.

Wild is such an underrated movie, from the same underrated director.
Although it may not appeal to broader audience i found it to be smart, kind, subtle and very subversive picture. Its unique storytelling, gorgeous cinematography and corky characters are what really impressed me here. At first it may look pretentious and self indulging, but i thought that it was a superb metaphore about a man who in its own unique way of grieving finds some type of catharsis. Acting is good, dialogue is clever, there are more than few jabs at todays society that work and while some parts of it are familiar and predictable, the way the story is told felt fresh and different. 3.5/5

This movie had a lot of potential. I liked the premise of a man not feeling anything after a tragic loss seen by others. The first act was great, the second and third acts became messy and didn't know what it was. Was It a comedy? Romance between himself and the woman? Friendship between himself and her kid? A mystery of who is in the station wagon? What was the point of the 'twists' near the end? All in all I think this movie could have been much more but squandered potential
Jake is such a good actor + this movie is SOOOO good!! 10/10 💓
