- Going into Final Kombat it felt like somehow, some way, everyone was underestimating SonicFox.
SonicFox is a six-time Evo Champion and the greatest Mortal Kombat players to ever touch the game. And yet, as the curtain was drawn on Mortal Kombat 1’s first ever World Championship, SonicFox was not the clear favorite. All eyes were on their young upstart rivals.
So SonicFox set out on the journey to reclaim the throne they never truly let go of.

One thing that has always stood out to me about Sonic is he's always happy win or lose, always praises his opponant if they have beaten him.
This is why they are the best, its not just the skill, its the entire mentality. Losing just sparks them to want to learn and come back better.

@@lennyn1120 It was a laggy online tournament, not many tournament players respect those wins much and so a lot of them get annoyed when someone pops off or trys to troll after winning online. Javier made a post saying he beat Sonic with the worst character in the game and Sonic basically told him he won off gimmicks due to the lag and he'd never be able to pull that off against him in an actual tournament. I'm assuming Sonic was on the west coast of the US and Javier was in Spain. If one person talks trash or brags the other side gets to talk back especially when one player is clearly better.

There’s absolutely nothing I’ve ever seen like it. The most saucy, entertaining, brutal chasedown offense I’ve ever witnessed. And honestly at that time he had some of the best defense I’ve ever seen in FGC in general. He was untouchable, and early DBFZ tbh.
It’s crazy how one person can be so good at damn near any game, it’s already impressive that he adapts so fast to his opponents gameplay but he also keeps the coolest head I’ve ever seen, he could have %1 of health left and I still believe he’d clutch the victory, his ability to read frames is inhuman, he’s the textbook definition of a born prodigy

I’m an outsider to the community, but SonicFox seems to be an incredible champion and ambassador. They are so wholesome and genuine, and it’s great to see their sportsmanship.

I would argue if you are gonna put people like Mew2King and Daigo of all people as examples. do not talk about they "let" time pass by for them M2K is 35 and Daigo is 43. Sonicfox is 26! Daigo is literally a multi-generational champion of capcom games and M2K completely changed how melee was played and remained pretty well dominant into his late 20s/early 30s.
Sonicfox is no slouch do not take that away from this tirade, but they have YEARS left to go before they even get close to washing out. People treating them like they are ancient. that could be a side effect of starting so early, but they are still in the Prime age for even more greatness!

@@repentantheart1518 Most pro games have an average age of closer to 21-22, and a normal retirement for a pro gamer is around 26. So the point really is that someone still being this good at this age is very rare, same idea for Faker. I agree though, the Unc thing is just a joke, but has some comical merit at least.

I remember the point in time back in highschool where we didnt even check who won the tourney if somicfox was in it, we knew he couldnt lose🐐
So SonicFox gets a doc for returning to his former glory on MK (which is cool, I fuck with that) but the two Chileans who set the MK world to its knees do not have a single video on this channel of underdogs overcoming entire defined scenes.
Only few people are these dominant for this long, he will go down as one of the greatest of all time if he's not already.

Mk 1 almost has a really special thing going on, NRS just has to patch a few things, and WB needs to put more effort into promoting the comp scene. Capcom is a great example of how far pushing the comp scene can get you, and WB has way more money
Evo numbers are a good indicator how few people still care about engaging with MK1 competitively. I’d argue it’s too late for that game to become much of anything.

@@Mito383 NRS evo numbers are always low, not excusing it though, just how it is. And even though the game is banned in most eastern countries, it is still by far the highest selling fighting game by a huge margin every month. If WB promoted their comp events like sf or tekken did, they’d be a lot better off competitively. I mean shoot we don’t even get announcements in the game for when big tournaments are going on 😭 they don’t even care enough to do the bare minimum
Evo 2016 MKX Grand Finals is my favorite set of Sonic’s. Sonic vs. Tekken Master, with UltraDavid and Aris on the mic inside Mandalay Bay was just the best!

Sonicfox's secret is hes playing for fun, the opponent is the one taking it too seriously and is why they lose everytime, over thinking and putting too much pressure on themselves to win, that's why sonic is happy when he loses, to him he won regardless cuz hes doing something he loves..everyone else is there for the check, they don't actually love the game.
I started watching tournaments because of SonicFox when he played MK with Erran Black... he was out of this world and still a legend for me.... he can play any fighting game and be good at it... much like shroud is at FPS games...
