      Let me know if you need the ctis seals or the hub seals. I have them.

    Great video, Neil! This will help a lot of folks. Your execution of the shimming process was perfect... As people can see now, there's no dark art here.
    The reason you want to have the CTIS seal retainers handy is because they often become brittle and crack while you're handling them. Considering the amount of time the hub R&R takes, you might as well have them handy.
    *Ron's tech video's are awesome too!

    I noticed one thing that you didn't do that I did when I changed my CTIS seal. That was cry. Like, a lot. I also did mine in the winter like you, but I went for the extra challenge of doing it outside. Thanks for the video, the shim part was the worst and you did an awesome job explaining it all. Merry Christmas

      Lol, thanks, I'm going to do all of my ctis seals and repack all the inner wheel bearings also clean and regrease brake adjusters and wedges. I have lots of footage to edit and we'll have more videos out soon. 👍

    Nice video. My only response is about the 3/8 wratchets is the same on my father had. I thought it was a cut down one the the knob brazed on the end. I see it was made that way.

    Are brakes coming up next? I am assuming you caged the rears to get the drums off??

      Thank you. Yes, brake caging, drum removal, adjuster disassembly and cleaning are all on the agenda along with ctis seal replacement and wheel bearing repacking. Lots of footage to edit and videos to get out. 👍

    great/informative site for a new 1078 owner. But, my transfer case makes a horrible death sound..as if this am I pulled the TC drain plug and 3 small needle bearing were found...erring on the side of caution, I wish to replace the tranny/transfer case as a unit...thoughts?

    • @NEILSWORLD
      @NEILSWORLD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Transmission and transfer case unit should be available, there are plenty of these trucks getting parted out. If you're not a member of a lmtv Facebook group you should join one, there are lots of parts suppliers on there.

    Great video, thank you for doing it! Im nowhere near an axle expert, so be gentle.. Why not reuse the original shims?

    • @NEILSWORLD
      @NEILSWORLD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question. I took my hubs apart for several reasons. 1: to repack the inner wheel bearings. 2: while it is totally apart I wanted to replace the ctis seals. 3: I wanted to check the clearance and adjust the shims. I would have used the shims that were in there but more were needed to bring it up to the proper tolerance.

    What is the symptom the truck was having that leads to this repair?

    • @NEILSWORLD
      @NEILSWORLD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanted to check and repack the inner wheel bearings. So I put new CTIS seals and checked the spider gear clearance at the same time.

    • @NEILSWORLD
      @NEILSWORLD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The outer wheel bearings are in an oil bath but the inner ones are greased.

    Plastic rings break on install or removal from improper installation the military doesn't have an exact procedure just install them with retention ring

    • @NEILSWORLD
      @NEILSWORLD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I wasn't real clear about that I reused my original ones they were fine I just didn't need the new ones but I do still have the front ctis seals to do so good to have them on hand. I will be clear about that on the ctis seal replacement video. 👍
