  • I got an AC condenser form a source that would rather remain anonymous. However If I had to do this all over again I would probably just buy the complete kit from one of the online sellers that are available these days.

    I re-used the original fittings that were on the bulkhead so I needed new ferrels for the compression fittings.

    They never cut holes for the drain on mine either. Another item to fix. No wonder I thought it was icing over. It did eventually spit from the vents though. Maybe they routed the drain another way and it's just over flowing. I'll have to check.

    When you painted this did you happen to take photos of the assembly? I really need to disassemble the evaporator to replace the expansion valve and thermostatic switch. At the moment it's looking like I will have to completely remove it. I rather avoid all the work you just did. Smart man, adding that conduit. Whoever installed mine made a mess off the wiring.

    • @BrokeOverLand
      @BrokeOverLand  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I looked. I don’t have clear video of the assembly. But you should be able to pull the bolts from underneath and lean it far enough forward to get your hand back there to run wire.

    Were you in? When I retired the last thing on earth I would do would be to buy an LMTV or a deuce and a half. Doing good with everything just keep at it. Or buy an IWS. Enjoy!

      There are grommets on either side of the engine tunnel. I ran them through the drivers side behind the accelerator pedal.

    I purchased a 2003 M1078A1 in July of this year. My heater actually was didn't work and switched to the GEN 2 Heater/HVAC. I have installed it, but like everything you can get for these trucks, no directions. Your videos are great. I have the Orange Power Supply wire from that Heater Evaporator unit and black ground wire. I know the orange needs 24 volts. Where did you hook these 2 wires to?

    • @BrokeOverLand
      @BrokeOverLand  ปีที่แล้ว

      The orange I ran a line to the 24v switched lug on the back of the breaker panel. The black I ran to the common ground strap on the bottom of the breaker panel (the strip with a ton of blade connectors on it)

    I want to do the same install. I have seen the entire "kit" online for more than $5k. Do you have a parts list and a list of resources to find these parts? Just don't want to spend an arm and a leg on this project... I know you advocate getting the kit but holy cow $$$... Any help would be appreciated. Also, awesome videos, I will be using them as reference as I move along with my build.... thank you Robert - Seattle, Wa

      Most of the resources I know that had reasonable prices on A/C parts have dried up. I have heard others are selling full kits. But I haven’t spoken to any of them lately. I still need to get off my butt and dig up an ac pump lines and all that good stuff.

    Are the drain tubes just those duck bill drains?
    How did you know how far forward to place your template?

    • @BrokeOverLand
      @BrokeOverLand  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes they are the duckbill type, like the ones they use in the floor. I referenced the drain tube positions based on the bolt holes on the left a right of the unit as well as the refrigerant line locations. I'll see if I can post a downloadable template on the blog for this install. brokeoverland.com/f/air-conditioning-condenser

    I been through pulling the heater unit... it was not terribly fun.
    Just curious... please let me know why you are going this route, and not say, a roof mounted all in one running on electrical power? I know there has to be some great reason. I am totally not knocking what you are doing... Lord knows I have done some stuff that I am sure leaves people scratching the head. Gonna be nice having AC, though!

    • @BrokeOverLand
      @BrokeOverLand  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Helicool's Helipad I’m planning on doing a roof rack that I can use as storage. So a roof mount would add too much height. Also after watching Sean’s video on the electric units. I think the best way is to go as “factory” as possible.

    When you did the air brake valves, what did you use for a sealant? i.e. teflon tape or Loctite red etc Thanks!

    • @BrokeOverLand
      @BrokeOverLand  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      PTFE thread tape. It’s what I had on hand. You can use liquid tape but I don’t recommend red or blue loctite on plastic parts as it can cause the plastic to deteriorate and crack. Loctite does sell a super bond that is safe on plastics.

    • @urgentcareguy3
      @urgentcareguy3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BrokeOverLand Ah, ok. I think there is a lot of confusion on this subject, particularly with the move from metal manifolds to composite. Composite does not like a nice torch on it to release red loctite lol. It doesn't help that loctite sells all sorts of sealants in the famous red bottle.
      Spoke with Haldex this AM. These said pipe dope, no tape, no red loctite. There is a Loctite 545 for air lines, BUT it is only metal connections. The issue with tape is the potential for clogging with bits and pieces of tape.

    Great video , I bought a truck that the previous owner bought a AC kit . But he only installed the heater evaporator unit . I have come to understand that he did not drill the extra 2 weep drain holes at the front of the unit . So if you could do me a favor can measure your template and give me a couple of Reference points so I can drill the holes up through the bottom of the cab. That would save me the major effort of R&R of the heater evaporator unit .
    I really would appreciate your help .
    Thanks
