I wanted to, but this is going to be my winter truck and a lot of people have had trouble with header gasket leaks. The last thing I want is to be working on the exhaust in the dead of winter. Going to stick with manifolds, but will do an air pump delete in a future video.
PS. I always whack a rusty bolt on the head with a hammer first to loosen up the rust before I slap a wrench on it. It really helps! Give it a few good whacks just to make sure!
You saying that makes me think it could be wise to hit the head of bolts like these with a blunt tip air chisel real quick. Def going to wrap the head harder than anything we can do by hand with little swinging room
I'm contemplating doing this job myself. Good to see what all is involved. I think it'd be very similar to what you suffered through... The parts are cheap, but if one of those studs breaks.... UGH. Nightmare fuel.
Have you ever heard of Panther-Piss? It is the best Solvent Penetrating Oil rusty bolt release agent ever. You mix acetone 50/50 with ATF. Look it up, it is the best of the best! If you don't like it; you always have your torch.
I like the shorty header idea. Now is the best time while you have open space to work with

@@QuickSpeedShop I don't blame you there, I always had my header issues in the winter time
WOW 1K for the 'Ol Time Garage Mechanic!! NICE JOB :-)
This is super helpful and makes me glad I have a couple years earlier that doesn’t have the EGR system 😅
Great work thanks for sharing
"And you know it ain't easy," to quote Ringo Starr.
Good video. Glad to know what I’m getting in to.

Headers! Yes!
project green machine!!!
Did you heat the actual bolt or around the bolt? I would think heating the bolt just expands it larger making it harder to back out?
Heat helps no matter what. You're heating the bolt and surrounding metal, both expand.

I've had good results using Kroil.
any exhaust work sucks, unless its brand new, good luck
That's why I'm going stock on the engine, hoping for longevity. Do have some custom action planned from the cat back...
