  • Everybody must be very curious about this latest Nissan Almera 2020 that comes with a 1.0 litre turbo-charged engine. We should be gibven the car for a more comprehensive test drive later, but we are also very curious - this is a short drive around the block to get a feel of how this 3-cylinder engine performs. We gladly share the experience with you.

    • @fleurdewin7958

@@bbqqreen On paper, it was declared as 100hp. However, nobody did bring the car for a true dyno run on a calibrated dyno machine to prove how much power the engine is actually producing on wheel. That is the most important question. In the past, many car manufacturers purposely declare lower HP because there are variations in engine production. Every mass production engine has a % of assembly tolerance. So they purposely declare lower to avoid getting sued for not meeting advertised power. Plus alot of countries tax cars by its engine HP especially forced induction ones, it is only our country that tax vehicles based on engine displacement.

    • @YSKhongDriving

Simulated ratios. Some CVT boxes put a "lock" on some part of the cvt, thus simulating a 'fixed' ratio for a bit. Check out the latest Honda Accord video which will be aired today, and you will see, hear and maybe feel the gear changes. Also on the Lexus UX.
By definition CVT is stepless, but it has evolved.

Why are there so many people in the car? Feels as if they're indirectly 'pressuring' you to say just nice things about the car. Sure it looks & feels great for first impression. But I'm more interested to see the reliability of both engine & cvt in the long run, especially since this is turbocharged small engine with the turbo located on the firewall side (less potential to cool down quickly after spirited drive), which I also doubt many average buyers would know how to properly care for a turbo car (extended oil change interval, oil dilution, oil burning etc2). Hopefully ETCM will educate new buyers on this. Also what do you mean by 'theoretically 3 cylinder engine is supposed to be smoother' at @4:25 ? shouldn't it be more cylinders=smoother?
Looking forward to see you drive without those Nissan guys around for more honest review.

The specs are truly good, as per my comments. One of them is ETCM staff. The other is my colleague.
The long term durability is anybody's guess. I also have no data on that.
And there is actually a theory that 3 cylinders is smoother than 4. Six is a multiple of 3, so V6 or straight six sounds better. V8s have a roar - it is supposedly nice, but what gives you that sound?
Anyway, an orchestra always is better than a soloist, right?
