Almera Turbo 2021 Full Review & Test Drive - What the Almera is all about | YS Khong Driving

  • The Nissan Almera is designed to provide decent (pretty decent, at that) driving yet be easy on the pocket. If you are a person looking at low operating costs (sen per kilometre) this is the direction you should be looking at.
Having said that, the Almera is not a slouch either - if you watch our Genting hill climb in the Almera you will note that it can scoot if you need it to; and we also did a fuel consumption test, so if you are curious what it can do in terms of FC, do have a look at that video too.
If you have a lot of questions that you are seeking answers to in regard to this car, you will probably know the answers after you watch our videos - failing which you can ask us in the comments section.
Please enjoy the video, and don't forget to share and subscribe.

Let me give you a review from a rear passenger perspective. My son drove the test drive unit with the salesperson in front and me at the back. Only one word to describe the ride, this car is very comfortable at the back. Enough leg room and headroom. I am 180cm tall. NVH is good. The aircon is cold enough for rear passengers even without rear aircon vents. Couldn't feel any 3 cylinder engine vibrations. At speeds exceeding 130km/hr and on uneven roads, the ride was not bumpy. I don't think I am wrong in saying, almera maybe the best in the B segment category.

Vios is also quite attractive which comes lots of safety features like Pre Collison System (PCS), Land Departure Alert (LDA), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) including come with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Dashcam with Forward Collison Warning (FCW) and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), reliability and durability and also come with better equipment features including Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto and LED Headlamps for all variants

Although, Nissan is also quite good car too but only lacks AndroidAuto and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS). Even VL (low spec) and VLT (mid spec) still come with halogen headlamps and only 2 airbags for VL variant (low spec). But in overall, both Vios and Almera are much better than Honda City.

Fun fact: the almera engine uses mirror bore coating tech same as the one used in the GTR.
    Mirror Bore Coating Techonology
Adapted from the legendary Nissan GT-R, this technology produces an extremely thin 0.2mm mirror bore coating cylinder liner that provides better heat conduction, enhanced cooling performance and less engine knocking.

I think 2020 Nissan Almera is a underestimated B segment sedan compared to Vios ans City. It is totally different from old Almera. It gets high rating from other Car bloggers in terms of fuel consumption, handling and comfortably. But so weird I haven't seen one on the road yet. I guess many people are worry about the durability of Nissan CVT transmission gearbox which is not reliable on old models.

@thamyeaphong personally comfort this car is better. The Ativa perhaps potential for adaptive cruise control that would be the biggest differentiator . To summarise Almera nicer driving experience and more comfortable. The Ativa better resale and the cruise control thing is something to consider if you based in the city .

      @@YSKhongDriving True , Almera is in B segment category & Mazda3 is a C segment category.
The current B segment car design has become bigger which can blur the line between B segment & C segment especially with the rear leg room. Sometimes a B segment feel roomier than a C segment. For those driving Mazda 3 would understand what I mean :-)

@@calvintan1462 Actually no major problems with the car. Mazda 3 is a good car to drive. The design aged well till today.
It is an enjoyable car to drive
I decided to change for extra safety , new tech & long term cost. The price is slightly lower thanks to the tax relief.
Mazda spare parts can be pricey. Just like other normal cars , as the car get older, your need to change the car components especially if you drive on a long distance regularly . My car has high mileage.

    1) Reasons to buy an Almera, instead of a Vios or City?
    2) Reasons to buy an Vios, instead of a Almera or City?
    3) Reasons to buy an City, instead of a Vios or Almera?
Would appreciate some tangible reasons (example, better bang for the buck, higher spec-ed, more accessories or features, more spacious, etc) rather than "I like the looks."

      1. Better ride on bumpy roads. Zero gravity seat. Larger tyres.
