I can teach you to knit in 15 minutes, including casting on, knit, purl, and casting off.
Once I came home exhausted from a week long work trip with a migraine headache and found my roommate was throwing a loud party. After a few minutes she left to buy more beer, and I emerged from my bedroom, sat down in a corner of the party, and started knitting quietly. Soon somebody asked about it. Half an hour later my roommate came home with beer and found the entire party sitting around happily knitting quietly.

I was definitely "That Kid" who knitted during class. Whenever I learned that a teacher was expecting a baby or grand-baby, I'd make a blanket for them. It would be funny because the teacher would be obviously irritated about me multitasking during their class, but at the end of the week when I present them the blanket they'd be so excited and sometimes would apologize to me for having told me to out the knitting away.
Also, one summer day I picked a ball of yarn and decided I was going to knit the whole thing into a scarf. I spent all day in the sun just knitting away- by the end of the day I had an obnoxiously long scarf and the best tan of my life.

It's so good to see people get into knitting. Those little characters are amigurumis and made in crochet, which is different from knitting with two niddles. Croche is pretty much what you did with fingerknitting, but with a hook and with actual rows and different stitches. You can do almost anything with croche, and is the technique that I learned first, also fingerknitting. Keep going!

When i tell you that the community that can be created from group knitting is so positive and amazing, I learned so much, and I've been knitting since I was 7. Honestly watching Jazza start this brought back so many memories of being frustrated with accidentally adding a stitch or losing a stitch. I love looking at his starter rows and seeing the slight variations of the stitch numbers in the scarf and seeing how he isn't going into a complete meltdown on thinking that learning and being good is impossible. Love this video!

As an avid crocheter (and trying to learn to knit as well), this was really nice, yet somewhat difficult to watch! In my years of crochet, I've heard someone mistake crochet for knitting probably thousands of times, and let me tell you-- I totally understand 😆 But there is actually a big difference. Crochet is almost always done one loop at a time and involves one hook, while knitting is done with many loops at a time and involves two needles. In the video, what Jazza calls "finger knitting" is actually finger crocheting; he's making what's called a "chain," which is one of the most basic foundations for all crochet projects. Also, half of the "knitting" examples he shows from the internet are actually crochet, as can be told by the subtle difference in stitches; knitting yields a row of "v" shapes, while crochet presents somewhat chunkier stitches, the shape of which is sort of hard to describe... something like small bunches of yarn all in a row, to put it vaguely.
    I'll attempt to visualize it.
    Knitting: Crochet:
    vvvvvvvvvvvvvvv ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ
    vvvvvvvvvvvvvvv ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ
    vvvvvvvvvvvvvvv ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ ʎ
    Examples:
Starting at 3:10, in order of appearance: Knitted Gandalf, knitted Spiderman, crocheted Venom, knitted Assassin's Creed fingerless mittens, crocheted Assassin's Creed hood.
Starting at 5:55, in order of appearance: Crocheted Captain Marvel doll, knitted T.A.R.D.I.S, knitted fourth Doctor, knitted hammer of Thor, crocheted detective Pikachu, knitted companion cube, knitted diamond pickaxe.
While the difference may be subtle, ESPECIALLY to someone who isn't learned in either skill, I would actually say that after learning one, the other becomes _fundamentally more difficult to learn!_ I've crocheted lots of amigurumi (knitted or crocheted toys) and lots of hats, mittens, scarves, etc., but to KNIT, while I have experienced some success, continues to scorn my spirit and wear my sanity.

When I saw the title, I instantly think that I should definitely watch this. Honestly, as a knitter, I'm proud of you! I already know that you will be good at this (because you're Jazza, duh) but I didn't expect a scarf in only a few days.
Your first scarf was definitely better and neater than my own first scarf, and I'm impressed to see that your tension is quite stable already and there are no dropped stitches whatsoever. Learning three kind of stitches (garter stitch, stockinette and rib stitch) in one day is also an achievement. To be honest, it took me months to finally muster the guts to learn purling and years to finally knit my first sweater.
Congratulations! I'd love to see you try to learn crochet, as the principal is quite similar to your finger knitting or do some more videos about knitting. Our community will certainly be glad to see more male knitters.

Yumi 2412 I just started to learn to knit today. I approached my mum about it and she was happy to start teaching me. My tension was really screwed up and I think it may have to do with how I stock stitched (I think that’s what it is, basically when each row alternates between pearl stitch and garter stitch). So for now I’m sticking with garter stitching since I’m actually quite good at it. I got the hang of it after 1-2 hours and now I think I’m ready to make a scarf. It’s a very relaxing hobby though!

I tore my first projects out and didnt have the best materials to learn but in 1995 you do what you gotta do to learn. Same with my mom she used pencils to learn in the 70s with a book, no youtube. thankfully i had mom to troubleshoot my work and encourage me. keep learning the tricky stuff isnt so hard. hugs

My mum taught me knitting and when I was about 5 or 6 I decided to learn how to make a glasses case for my grandad. I am now 16 and I can only knit a scarf however my grandad loved the case and carried it with him until he passed last year. I asked my mum whatever happened to it and she said he absolutely loved it and carried it with him always. I think my grandma has it now but that was the first glasses case I had made and the first knitting project I had made that wasn't a scarf.
