    It's been awhile, but I remember getting lifter noise when I tried 50 weight. I chalked it up to lifter orifice restriction not letting the lifters pump up with the thicker oil. I think I was running 15w-40 Rotella with a ZDDP additive before my Scout went into storage.
    The thicker oil may be solving one problem and causing another.

      Thats a good point. I may give that 15/40 a try.

    Same issue, different engine (68 F250 390). Mine has been doing it for at least 10 years now, still running strong. I too have a 75 Scout ll with a 345 dosen't make a sound, because the engine is seized. Go with Shell rotella 15-40 and a zinc additive.

    I have the same oil pressure readings as you on my 78 with a 345. I’m planning on dropping the pan to look for cam bearing material.

      That's a good idea and very likely to give the better answer on the cam bearing situation.

      @@BarrettFarms For what it's worth, I found cam bearing pieces when I dropped the pan. Guess it's time for a rebuild...

      @@bryanwood9811 thanks for the update. I need to do the same and see what I find I think, probably in the same boat.

      I just rebuilt my 351 Cleveland and had all the machining done and new bearings including cam bearings and my engine cold produces around 50psi and warm maybe 5psi at an idle

    My 345 runs with the same piss poor oil pressure at idle. About 4 psi hot. But it increases proportionally with RPM. From what I've been told, fluctuating oil pressure at steady RPM = spun cam bearing and low oil pressure that increases steadily with RPM = worn bearings but not spun. I'm dropping my pan at the next oil change to look for bearing material but I've been driving it like this since I bought it in 2018.

    I have the same problem with my 345. I will have to open the engine because of engine noise and have to replace the oil sender. I use 20w50 with 1200 zinc. Driving 200 miles a day.

      Yep, sounds familiar. What year is your 345? If I understand correctly, the cam bearings are a little cheaper made in the later 345A models. I have a 345E in my 1210 that is 8 years older and it doesn't have this issue.

    Did i hear suction when u removed your oil fill cap on the valve cover? It needs to breathe for crank case ventalation.

    • @BarrettFarms
      @BarrettFarms  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Probably, it's always done that. Pcv is good but I guess it just sucks on the valley pan side a little more than the pvc can flow.

    • @jesseduke694

      @@BarrettFarms it should be a vented cap.

      @@jesseduke694 probably wouldn't hurt. I asked an old timer about it a long time ago and he said if it had pressure then it would be bad (obviously) but vacuum as long as Pcv is working is no worries.

    dear oil pump clearances must always less than any oil clearance in engine
