When I used to make dumplings, I preferred to use vegetable suet. Apart from the traditional soft dumplings, I used to sometimes bake them. They become really nice and crunchy with just a hint of softness to the middle.Great with any red meat or game stews.Yum yum.!!!

This is the food that brings back fond memories of my mothers cooking and more recent memories of teaching the kids to make dumplings for stews. Right decided making a beef stew for sunday lunch and getting the family over. Make the stew over friday night saturday morning give it tome to meld flavours, reheat in the crock pot for 90 minutes and add the dumplings just have to sqeeze in 16 of them or run 2 batches of dumplings had to do that before afew time to cater to the tribe. Thanks for the inspration, Take care, God bless one and all.

I've got to get the recipe for Yorkshire pudding. Never had that before. At least i don't think i have. Beef stew i used to cook all the time for my dad when i was younger. I haven't made it in awhile. So I'm trying out your yummy recipe. Now for the dumplings, i can't get suet. So. Is it okay to use lard or shortening and butter. It looked really nice, that's what I'm doing for tea. I'm making dumplings but not Yorkshire pudding simply because I couldn't eat both. I only make my dumplings with flour and suet with a bit salt and pepper. I've noticed once or twice when I've made soft dumplings they've been really heavy. I must have had to much water in like you were saying. By the way I wouldn't use a metal spoon in a non stick pan as it will take the top off

@@EricAlainDufresne I love slow and pressure cooking - It certainly does help depending on what you are cooking. I do like slow cooking of meat. The great thing about a slow cooker the texture stays intact if you like - potatoes have that little firmness - in a pressure cooker they go past that firmness

The end product looked pretty good, but stirring the beef in that small non stick pan with a metal spoon…and all that oil. Not sure if that would be considered boiled or steamed beef, but it’s definitely not seared. That part was hard to watch.
