Alf is a practicing Freegan and in this short film he explains the principles and ideas behind Freeganism. For more information please visit www.freegan.org.uk
I borrowed a coat one winter and then within a year I got a good champion puffer jacket from the op shop for next winter! If I was really poor I could've gotten a different jacket earlier but I do like to look good lol so glad I was able to wait.
Found lyrics: People don't notice us, they never see Under their noses a Womble may be We womble by night and we womble by day Looking for litter to trundle away We're so incredibly utterly devious Making the most of everything Even bottles and tins Pick up the pieces and make 'em into something new Is what we do Underground, overground, wombling free The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we Making good use of the things that we find Things that the everyday folks leave behind
Hey! I want some info on skipping. I wan't to know my legal rights as a skipper. I'm a student in a town in Wales. We go skipping often but have recently been confronted by staff (from the ethical co-op supermarket, would you believe) and told that we are stealing and trespassing. We just leave to avoid confrontation but as I understand it we are defensible in that we can see the owner no longer wants the stuff and we don't have to break in (squatter's rights). Is this correct? any advice? MK
In response to ScienceProjek's question of why homeless people don't go through the bins, i can say (as an amateur freegan myself) a) they do, we've gone down to supermarkets at night a couple of times and they've been there as well. We let them get first dibs on what they want though. b) the staff get angsty with the homeless- uni students like me more likely know their rights Whenever we're walking back, if we see homeless people, we offer them some of our haul, so they indirectly do too
Good job Alf! (don't dig the beardless look, though). You did a good job showing that Freeganism is NOT just about getting stuff for free, but is about making a better world!
How inspiring! I think the wombles had the idea first though: "making good use of the things that we find. Things of the everyday, folks leave behind...."
@littleglonia True that....perhaps I was a little harsh in my assessment...I never ever had so many negative comments that they actually hid my comment....wow!!! Sorry, folks! I didn't mean to offend....
S.P. I'll answer you. Your first question, you have sort of answered it yourself ! ''They don't know about it''...well,most of them don't. Second...YES it IS illegal in the U.K. It's called 'Theft by finding' (police term. But that doesn't stop us ! 3... You obviously aren't going to the right places. Think about what you want...where would you actually 'buy it' ??
saw the tv last night WIFESWAP ...interesting points of view....understand both sides of the argument the capitalist family and the radical jesus christian freegan ... but surely the debate as we form relationships is whether or not we choose to have kids..!?

Making the most of everything

Pick up the pieces and make 'em into something new
Is what we do
Underground, overground, wombling free
The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we
Making good use of the things that we find
Things that the everyday folks leave behind
Great explanation. Thank you!
2022, thanks.
This is interesting i would like to see more on this
Where is Alf these days ?? Haven't heard anything of him for ages.

most supermarkets have trash compactors, which is a shame.
bakeries and dollar stores are golden for diving

i'm shocked by the number of people who dont grow their own food.
are you still involved in this philosophy?
@MKisinthebuilding Hi, Google 'Do freegans commit theft? by Dr Sean Thomas.' I think this is the best research/comment so far on the subject.

How can I some in contact with Alf? He is so hot, and has a beauuuutiful soul! I wanna be his girlfriend! :)
Most of these Freegan vids are just rich kids feeling guilty that they have means and are trying to make themselves feel better by rescuing scraps.
I wonder what it's like to feel guilty about stuff
@@patdevine3151 Ehhh...it's overrated.
