2nd FREE ASCENT of The Dihedral Wall | Short Film

Jorg Verhoeven makes the annual pilgrimage to Yosemite, California to attempt the 2nd free ascent of "The Dihedral Wall" (VI 5.14a) on El Capitan. This time, Jorg brings his wife, Katha Saurwein along, teaching her the ropes on her very own big wall free climb, "The Final Frontier" (5.13-) on the Fifi Buttress.

Tommy really is a legend. Putting in the decades of pioneering free routes on el cap... it's just so much harder than I can fathom. Anybody who has tried climbing 5.10 when you've put days of humping loads, hauling, scrambling, suffering through heat/cold - knows that it's a whole new level. To punch together pitch after pitch of 12+, 13, 14 is just mind melting. I LOVE seeing Jorg in his prime, honing his skills on such a high level route!

I was in The Valley in '80-'82 and did some minor walls. When I heard about Lynn freeclimbing The Nose it was almost superhuman and an incredible accomplishment coming after years of attempts by strong men. When I heard Honnold freesoloed El Cap I couldn't fathom it, figuring it would be done some day in the far distant future. Seeing routes like Dihedral Wall, Muir Wall, NA Wall, and all the others transforming El Cap into a freeclimbing destination blows my mind. The strength of anyone who can do it is mind-bending.
