Is Porto Alegre the Hidden Gem of Brazil?
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 8 ส.ค. 2024
- Porte Allegre, Brazil. Literally "The Port of Joy". What makes this city in Brazil so joyful? What makes it special? Is it just the same as Rio?
Join us as we explore this Gaucho culture of Brazil and show you exactly why it is so amazingly different from every other city in the country!
We explored the Mercado Publica, ate dinner at Chalé de Praça XV and got some great skate footage at the Megapista da Orla (the largest skatepark in Latin America). The next day we had breakfast at Quiero Café, visited the Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana and its rooftop cafe...then we got some energy our at Farophillia Park and ended our day eating at the BEST Brazilian Steakhouse in ALL of Brazil (in our humble opinion): Churrascaria Schneider.

Finally a gringo showing Porto Alegre. I am tired of everyone thinking brazil is only Rio.
Very good review
Ofc it is Rio.
Rio Grande do Sul
Thanks! I loved getting to visit :)
@@renanxd04 got em 😂
Verdade poa a melhor
Bring Bolsanero back because your jail man just put a Visa requirement back on us!😡🤔😅
As a Brazilian American, born in Porto Alegre, I want to express my gratitude to you for showing the gauchos' capital. The flood of 2024 damaged many areas of Porto Algre, but not our spirit. We will be back.Thank you very much.
it really was amazing seeing all of us coming together to help whoever got affected.
Great to see you here 😂
Thanks for your kind words. We loved getting to visit :)
I think the majority of people watching this video are from Porto Alegre. Am I right tchê?
Yeah, I think so. Share it with people you know in other places and prove that your city is better, haha!
I love it❤
Not really haha I’m from the borderland of the state, Uruguaiana, but I’ve been living in Poa since 2013; love it here! 🥰
Bah esse vídeo apareceu tanto nos recomendados que me obriguei a assistir kkk
And a foreigner in Porto Alegre too 🙌
So nice and, at the same time, so sad to see how Porto Alegre was before the floods that hit RS hard in May 2024. Some of the places shown in the video were severely damaged. Hopefully, everything could be rebuilt and even improved. The Gaucho people, Brazil, and everyone else deserve a joyful Port again.
Yeah, it’s absolutely heartbreaking to see all of my friends going through that destruction. My prayers are with the Gaucho people!
Sim o "Mercado Público" ficou praticamente debaixo d'agua, nessas ruas aí em volta do Mercado se andava somente de barco. Eu cresci aí no Centro de Porto Alegre e... bom melhor deixar isso tudo pra trás.
Yeah, the "Public Market" was practically underwater, in those streets around the Market you could only travel by boat. I grew up there in the center, downtown of Porto Alegre and... well, it's better to leave all that behind.
Já estamos totalmente recuperados, podem vir visitar. Precisamos do turismo
Hey man its me in vídeo! So nice 😊
@@carlosjunior7333 hey, what’s up man! Thanks for the help at Quiero :)
"Brazilian cowboy swords"... That is the best definition ever for "espetos"😅
Thank you for this amazing video! Greetings from Porto Alegre :)
Haha, glad you liked it :) great to hear from you!
Bahhh, é muito tri ver um gringo elogiando a cidade que mais amo 😍🥰🥹💓
We loved it :)
Glad you enjoyed your stay here bro. Come to the country side next time. We gauchos welcome you
Thanks so much! We spent a bunch of time in Bento Gonçalves, Caxias do Sul, and Pinto Bandeira and we stayed in Farroupilha in this video:th-cam.com/video/5MZTiotE9k0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Eq2J8R_5hDfjgBo3.
We also have a Gramado video coming. We loved the countryside too! More videos coming soon :)
Hi! Im from Poa (how we affectionately calls Porto Alegre) and Im so happy to a “gringo” wants to knows our city and enjoy it!! Especially after the flood… thanks to show for the world how incredible are our city!
obs: Mario Quintana was a very popular artist after his death, he had a several health problems so he couldn’t go out and then his parents created a hotel to him - and to the people. His room was away from everything and everyone. His poetry is very beautiful and famous in our state until now.
That’s good to know. Thanks for the warm welcome!
Pela data foi um pouco antes da enchente.
Cool video! Porto Alegre is one of the best cities in Brazil Ive ever visited! People there were so polite and kind to my family and their food was stunning!
Yes, very true!
As a gaúcho, it's so awesome seeing people from another countries visiting our state. I'm glad that you experienced our churrasco and liked it and I really hope you got to experience pão de alho too. It has to be one of the best things to eat together with churrasco. And I can agree, Brazilian food is awesome. My favourite thing about it is how we take food from other cultures and improve it in our own way. And if you come back to Brazil, you should totally visit Palmeira das Missões and some countryside cities. They are the best.
Yes, pão de alho is incredible! Thanks for the advice. :)
As a porto-alegrense (how we call the people born in Porto Alegre), I am very happy and grateful for you to have shared a little of our city and our culture! Brazil is a very vast country both territorially and culturally. Porto Alegre may not be the biggest or most known brazilian city but is a beautiful and enchanting city and I think that everyone who doesn't know the city should one day visit Porto Alegre! I'm happy that you enjoyed our city!
Que bom q gostaram. Voltem sempre.
To be honest I'm very surprise because I've never seen a foreign review video about Porto Alegre. The way the barbecue restaurant served you was invented in my hometown.
It was a fun video to make!
That’s cool! What’s your hometown?
@@YaleWall Thanks for visiting! We are celebrating on July 25th, 200 years of German Immigrants arriving our state!
For me, as a citizen born and residing in Porto Alegre, I'm happy and congratulate you on the great video. On your next visit, I suggest you also visit the football stadiums and learn a bit about the history of our teams Sport Club Internacional and Gremio Football Porto Alegrense, which have great national and international achievements. There's also the Theatro São Pedro, the Parcão, the Guaíba Sunset, and also about the traditionalist culture (CTG).
Awesome! Thank you!
I live in Porto Alegre and I love being here. Of course, Brazil is not perfect, but qualities and defects exist everywhere. The problem is that I see many people who have never set foot in our country saying things they don't know. Brazil is beautiful and we have always been known for being happy, talking a lot and hugging each other a lot. ❤
I truly LOVE your outlook on that. No place is all good, and no place is all bad.
I'm a native of Porto Alegre and I can say with confidence, you chose great places to showcase a little of our city. And I'm sure they didn't go hungry haha. Come back to Porto Alegre in September and get to know our Gaucho culture during Farroupilha Week. I bet you will like it and eat a lot of barbecue. Tks buddy.
Thanks!
You know what pushed me to subscribe? That goofy mind control bit! It was adorable! Thanks for showcasing my hometown :)
Haha, that’s great! My daughters have a way of controlling me, but don’t tell them I said that :)
It's really cool to have you here, I loved the video, I hope you enjoyed it, a hug from the Gaúcho people
Parque Farroupilha Magic is on weekends, when it gets totally full with people drinking... Err, mate, and talking, and the Redenção Fair with arts and stuff
Oh cool! I need to check it out on the weekend sometime!
true!
@@YaleWall Brique da Redenção happens every sunday at Parque Farroupilha, and it is great. There's all sorts of things to buy, from food to random goods and artisan itens, with fair prices also. Sadly, besides the fair, there's not much else to do there
@@giovannadorneles9936 sounds great!
I love it how everywhere you go, you stop for a HUGE cup of coffee filled with whipped cream and chocolate... no wonder you enjoy every spot in Brazil.... 😅😅😅
Lol, yeah, that’s true.
Honestly this feels like alternate reality watching this, I almost never see many foreigners here, I’m always around these places, and to see Americans here, with good energy and spirits, spending some time and reviewing the city was very fun, I really enjoyed it!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching.
I’m really glad you had a such good experience in our city. It was a shame you probably went to Parque Farroupilha in a week day. In Sundays is a very nice place to hang out with family and stroll around the Brique da Redenção fair
Thanks for the tip!
so cool to see your perspective about my city. It is really rare to have foreigners visiting us, and I feel really great you could enjoy the "gaucho culture" =D
Yeah, Porto Alegre is not a top tourist destination, but I really love the culture and the people there, and was honored to get to explore it.
My city!! I work just on the side of the Mercado Público! Great Video!
Awesome, I’m glad you liked it! I love Porto Alegre :)
How are you guys doing with all of the flooding that’s happened?
@@YaleWall I wasn't personally affected by the flood, but I have relatives who were affected. Three families of my cousins who lost their homes completely and are starting over from scratch. They received a lot of help with basic resources and shelter in the first few days until they were finally able to travel to their father's beach house. Some donations came from outside, including EUA. I am very grateful to you Americans and other countries who helped our state recover. Fortunately, they are currently returning to their homes and slowly recovering, starting their business again.
Really glad that you showed our state capital, its very important to us you showing our beloved city after the last flood, greetings from POA ❤🩹
The recent flood is heartbreaking. Glad to hear that POA is coming back well!
Great video, thanks for showing our city. You are always welcome!
thank you for being in here and to show such beautiful sides of my city. POA is incredible and I hope it become as safe as it used to be.
Great video, love from Porto Alegre!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you for this beautiful video. I'm from porto Alegre and I can finally show my city, sharing this video to my English husband ♥️. He has never been to Brazil.

Badass video and editions, dude! I hope to meet you here asap!
i'm glad you liked it! as one of the citizens of Rio Grande do Sul (the state that Porto Alegre belongs), i really love how you appreciated a big part of our culture!
Thanks! We definitely appreciated the culture.
I'm so happy to know that you liked Porto Alegre, I live here and after the floods things are slowly recovering! You will always be welcome here, thank you for the visibility♥️
Thanks! I’m praying for a quick recovery from the flood.
Wow such Nice vídeo. Porto Alegre is a great place to know, full of culture, nice history and delicious food. Valeu, gringo🙏
Glad you enjoyed your stay!! It was really cool to see your perspective on our city. Come back whenever 🤗
Cool, thanks for watching!
Great video. Thank you a lot.
Thank you so much for showing our culture and for doing a great video about the city where I live!!
No problem!!
Wow! I love knowing that people from outside Brazil are finally coming to explore more than just Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. I really love my country! I'm from Rio Grande do Sul and was born in Porto Alegre. I really enjoy it when our culture is appreciated. Thanks! And I hope you had fun here.
Thank you for your time to appreciate Brazil and hope you had the best experience we can offer
Thanks so much! We loved it!
So nice to see someone talks about Porto Alegre like this. Nevertheless I came here from the future to tell you that this city that ou knew it is a completely different city after the flood. Here on my channel you will have a sincere report of a Porto Alegre citizen suffering the devastating flood that took place here
It’s sad to see the destruction that POA went through! I’m praying for my Brazilian brothers and sisters.
Really nice content! It’s very interesting to discover how people from far away feels about the city I was born and raised in. Thanks for that!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video!
Thanks a lot for this video! Sometimes I fell like running out of my "Port of Joy" in this very sad moment after the floods. But you guys make me remember how nice and intersting Porto Alegre is. 🧡🧡🧡🧡
hey! next time try going to Redenção (Farophillia Park) on a weekend! i would recommend goind specially on a sunday, when there is the "Brique" - Lots of "street stores" with unique items! Also, you can drink a "Caldo de Cana" and eat a "Pastel", which is a very good and cultural combination!!!
its so nice to watch your experience in our city :) hope u come back soon! Porto Alegre has a lot to offer- specially in sunny weekends!
I would had loved to see it on a weekend, but we went to São Paulo over the weekend. I’ll have a video of that coming out soon also.
I’ll have to come back some day :)
I’m glad you guys had such a good time in Porto Alegre. You are a beautiful family! Nice video!
Thanks so much!
Thank you for visiting Porto Alegre. I love my city and I'm glad you enjoyed being here.
Mario Quintana was a famous poet who lived at the Magestic hotel. The barbecue here is really better. Check back often
A lot of talented craft went into making this video! Great job!
Thanks so much!
Such good vibes in your video! Cheers
Thank you!
TH-cam is so cool! Simplesmente aparece o vídeo de um gringo no meu feed, visitando a minha cidade, conversando com um evangelista! Qual a probabilidade disso acontecer? LOL Parabéns pelo video, muito bem feito, mas ainda existem alguns lugares bem interessantes para se visitar em Porto Alegre! Voltem sempre!
Yeah, you never know what you’re going to see. Make sure you subscribe to this channel so you see more surprising videos like this!
So happy to see tourists going to places in Brazil besides Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Brazil is much more than one single identity, and as a Gaucho, I salute you.
This video was a great surprise! Thanks for showing Porto Alegre to the world. It is a great city to live in with one of the best food in the country. You have to come back next time to try the Italian food in a type of restaurant we call 'galeteria'. Mamma Mia, Pastaciutta and D'Italiani are some great examples. Also the pizzas, eating a 'rodízio', where they serve all flavors of pizza,. You would be in love, and shocked, swear! Congrats for the video, it was really amazing!
Thanks for the advice. I actually have been to many different pizza rodizos, and a couple galeterias, but they just didn’t make it in the video. I have more Brazil videos coming soon!
Uau, fiquei até emocionado e com vontade de chorar vendo minha cidade a qual tenho tanto orgulho ser tão reconhecida positivamente por um gringo. Que vídeo sensacional!!! Porto Alegre é demais!
As a brazilian and a gaucha who has lived in Porto Alegre for a few years, thank you for the most beuatiful translation of the city name! Sometimes we forget the meaning of the words used to name something! "The port of joy"!
Thanks :)
thank you for showing our beautiful city and culture to the world!
Thanks for the advice. I might need to see it again that time of year.
Thanks for sharing a bit of our culture with your followers!
You’re welcome! Thanks for being so welcoming!
It's so nice to watch an international channel showing our city! Brazil is a country with a lot of traditions, but we most see Rio being resumed as the Brazilian culture. Unfortunately, many places that appeared in the video were severely damaged by the april flood, and seeing it before the water's break is just a nostalgic feeling. Thanks for sharing the world a little bit of our hometown! And yes, gaúchos have the best churrasco in the entire world ❤
Thank you for visiting my city. You have another subscriber
Thanks! We loved getting to experience Porto Alegre :)
Thanks for sharing our city.
💪👏🫶🧉😉
Thanks for being so welcoming!
I wasn't born in Poa, but I've been living in a city around for 15 years and I definitely love Porto Alegre and I thank you for showing this incredible city to the World. Happy that you and your beautiful family enjoyed.
i got emotinal seeing you showing the city i was born and i've lived for my whole life, thank you
That’s great to hear. Glad I could bring some attention to it!
amazing video
Thanks so much!
Thanks for sharing a litle some of the best in Brazil. I live in Porto Alegre and I know whole place so your video gives me a mental refreshment, showing how incredible our hometown is. Brasil has one of the best place to live in the world, our people are amazing, our food is incredible, our climate is amazing (exclude this recent thinks that happened). If one day we also have the best politicians, no one grab us. 😅 Thanks for your job.
Such a nice video of our city, thank you! Also, for those who come to Porto Alegre, don't miss the sunsets by Ibere Camargo museum and the Pontal park, always surreal vibes mainly during weekends. I'd also recommend hanging out at districts such as Moinhos de Vento and Bom Fim, lots of amazing restaurants and coffee shops. Also Parcão (Moinhos de Vento park) is much safer than Redenção, but Redenção, on the other hand, gets super joyful and full of life during sunny weekends, definitely a better time to go there
That’s great, thanks for the advice!
This family is beautiful and blessed. Great video, excellent channel, gained another subscriber.
I will recommend it to my friends and colleagues to honor you.
Steakhouse Schneider is in the city where we live, São Leopoldo. We feel very honored to visit Schneider and our capital Porto Alegre. Always welcome to Brazil.
You have very good energy and are very friendly.
God bless you all with all the best and positive things always.
Hugs, Brodt Family.
Thanks so much! Your words are very kind :)
The best day to go to Farroupilha Park is on Sunday, because there is a huge art fair.
Thank you for showing the world our city ❤
Yeah, I need to check it out on a weekend sometime!
It's really cool to see people from different nationalities visiting and showing the beauty of Porto Alegre to the world. I live near this city and Porto Alegre (AKA Poa) is my favorite city in Brazil without a shadow of a doubt
Great video man
Appreciate it
As a boy that born in Porto Alegre, I can say that I happy that someone from another country visited my born city.
And a curious thing is that my TH-cam photo has been taken in a hospital there.
Thank you for sharing about my City, I was borne and live here.
Thanks for being so welcoming!
so cool, man! I’m from porto alegre and see your point of view of the city was so nice! Wish u and your family the best!
Thank you! You too!
You know who else has been there at the Mercado Público? Dua Lipa 😂
Nice seeing my city from your perspective, thanks for stopping by
Sad it was cloudy, cause the sunset here is our main postcard, and seeing it from Casa de Cultura is a nice experience
And "the central park" has another vibe on a sunny sunday, with lots of people, a fair, food and sometimes music
P.s: loved Cali saying "obrigada" to the waiter, that's really brazilian of her, cause we say that a hundred times in a rodízio when they serve us something 😂
Really, that’s so random!
Yeah, we need to go back to the park on a weekend.
Bah tri afudê esse vídeo / congrats, amazing video

You should definetely come back during September the 20th's week. You'd be absolutely flaggerblasted on how much the city just transforms for the Farroupilha Week
That’s what I’ve heard! I need to see it some day.
It's an amazing festival celebrating gaúcho culture. They build a camp in the middle of the city that last for two weeks. There is horseback ridding competitions and lots and lots of churrasco going on all the time. Everyone dress up like they are in the midwest 1800's it's a hoot. Your family would love it@@YaleWall
living here all my life ive never seen the city through this perspective, i really like living here but it was never something crazy, you make me appreciate my hometown a little more, thanks
You’re welcome! Sometimes you just need to see your city from another light :)
Hey my friend, your video is really cool. I'm from Porto Alegre and I can tell you that I really liked the view you had of the city. As for Farroupilha Park, really on weekdays it's not that safe or crowded, but on weekends it's crowded and there's There are several cool fairs, the best thing to do is go on Saturday or Sunday! The video was really worth it and see you later!!!!
I'm from Porto Alegre, I'm very happy that a foreigner comes to visit Rio Grande do Sul, you're very welcome!😁

@Yale Wall, thank you for show our City to the world. Unfortunately few months after your visit here, we have a massive flood in the State of Rio Grande do Sul.
So many areas stays under water nearly to one month, In Porto Alegre a great part of their streets, houses, buildings and commerse was severely hit by the flood.
I hope we can see you here again.

Yeah, the flood was heartbreaking. I’m glad everyone is starting to recover.
Thanks for bringing light to our people !
Happy to get to experience the people of southern Brazil!
Uau, adorei ver um vídeo de "Grigos" visitando Porto Alegre, muito legal.
I'm not from POA, but i live close and have been a couple times, all of them for cultural reasons since nearby cities don't get many concerts or museums at all. I can't believe you didn't visit Museu da PUC, it's a technology and science museum filled with interactive spaces made by the university, i've been 2/3 times with my school when younger and I wanna come back so bad! Glad you had fun!
loved the video!!! but you really should have gone to the park on the weekend. On saturday, there is a great farmers market and on sundays, there is a fair full of beautiful art and amazing food for you to try🥰 Also, since it is very crowded on weekends, it is much safer. I am really glad you liked my hometown, hope you guys come visit again❤️
Yeah, I need to check it out on a weekend sometime. Thanks for the warm welcome!
I`m glad that you could enjoy our city after of the biggest flood in the history of Brazil. You`re welcome to comeback ;)
I went before the flood. I was very sad to hear about how the flood destroyed so much!
