When I was 15, way back in 1969, I was deeply in love with Mariska. What a woman.....those eyes and that mystrious Mona Lisa-like smile....and of course the total package wasn't bad either. Long time gone now, but never forgotten....
She is sooooo sexy and laid back. I am so sad she is gone, but her spirit is here in her music. Her band was pretty cool and grooved! She will always give me a love buzz! I love the song Mighty Joe too by Shocking Blue. How can you not just love her! ❤
She really had such a gorgeous and sultry look it's hard not to be totally transfixed watching her perform. Sheer magic and love buzz indeed! I'm finally noticing how excellent everyone in the band is-nice groove and chops by everyone.
Yes, Mariska Veres aka Maria Elizabeth Ender is gorgeous & love her stage presence~voice. Although I will say I’m much more interested in the band’s bassist~ Klaasje van der Wal aka a total hottie! 😂
How many hundreds of times I grooved to this song, and never knew what a beauty was singing it. Fact is, back then I just figured it was the usual guy on vox. Anyway, Mariska could've totally been my Venus! 😍
In their song"shocking you"she says she's the goddess of music with the magic voice! My friends n me were all in love with Mariska when we saw her in 1969 so beautiful and what a voice,Shocking Blue fans 4everRIP💝💗😘😎
This song was HUGE when it came out! I still remember people at school raving about this "new" Dutch band. It was the first time ever number one hit for a Dutch band!
A solid version for sure, but I prefer the *rawer* sound (esp. on guitar) the band achieved for THIS live appearance. (Don’t worry; the audio improves about six measures in!) th-cam.com/video/qWb8_DH8U6o/w-d-xo.html
What good days we are getting older the day of 1970 is past my buddy a 1969 roadrunner and the sound of her on the radio will never come back RIP rock on
Yes, I believe her father was Gypsy. There have been a lot of great Gypsy musicians. At present I am studying Gypsy style violin.. Working on the common scales used by Gypsy players as heard in Hungary and Romania.
@@flexiblebirdchannel she could very much sing , it’s just that at the time any live performance on tv was difficult to produce within the relatively small budgets and time that most shows worked on . That’s also why top of the pops had live singing to a prerecorded backing track.
Mariska Veres is major hot, but few people give the band the credit due. The bass player is quite impressive and not only holds down the bottom end but doubles as a rhythm section. He is one of the few I see use a pick and chords on the bass. This band was just plain great.
This is why You Tube is so great for me, this record sold a lot when it was released ages ago, but where are you ever gonna be able to find a black & white video of Shocking Blue doing their biggest hit and not lip syncing it, but doing it live. I consider this one of the rare type of video's from the music of the 60's & 70's that you won't see or hear everyday. Excellent footage. Thanks to whoever posted it.
@@donjohn2695 Likely couldn’t hear herself singing. Days before monitors and standing in front of LOUD band And no compression on her voice. I think that’s what you are hearing
Love this honestly live version. Most "live" clips of this tune are obviously mimed performances over the studio track but this is the real deal. Thank you for posting!
A very rare indeed as this seems a legit live performance. Most of their stuff in the YT seems to be 'pure' playback with lip syncing - or (more rarely) playback with live vocals. Not trying to tarnish the band anyway - due to technical reasons playback was a norm in the TV back then - very often against the wishes of the bands themselves.
I became a fan of Shocking Blue the day you uploaded this. I always knew they were good so I decided to look into their catalogue and I can say they are already one of my favourites.
Indeed - Nothing to do with feedback rejection as mentioned elsewhere - that's just an old wives tale - the idea of mic splitters had not really caught on, and the PA usually didn't have the complexity to allow a feed from it - mixed or not - so double miking was the norm for such filmed concerts.
Any sound that came through both mikes on the mic stand, i.e. the overwhelming noise of the on-stage amplifiers and raw drums, usually located directly behind the vocalist, and aimed straight into the cardioid mic, would be 100 times as loud as a human vocalist, thus overpowering him/ her. Thus, this would be canceled through that dual mike setup. Any loud background noise coming into both mics simultaneously, producing matching signals, were canceled. Only the vocal signal coming into one of the dual vocal mic setup, would transfer to the PA. Also, there was no need for a separate recording mic. They would simply pull the signal off the Mixing board or PA. Even the Announcer i. e. Woodstock, didn't need 2 mics. No music was playing, and his voice went through the PA, and was was recorded off the sound board. The difficulty comes with matching/ syncing the "tape" recording, with the film and/ or video sounds. @@captainniven
Absolutely amazing rare live footage of this very talented band. Their first (was it their only?) album At Home is is totally faultless in every way. Rock music was so good and pure back in the early 70s.
Imagine that, a band playing live on stage with no backup dancers or ProTools gimmickry. Great live version of the original track, by the original and best act to record the song.
