I first heard the group singing on the radio in The Netherlands. Then learned they they were a Dutch group. When I came back to Canada from my trip to the Netherlands, they were playing it here and for a while it hit no. 1. Always loved that song. The fact it as a Dutch group was a bonus for me.

I enjoyed hearing such a big band version of "Venus", but it can stand on its own just fine. I am impressed with the thought that most of these performers likely speak Dutch as their first language, yet belt out the English lyrics with no problem. I could not sing in Dutch! I am impressed by all of those singing!
Interestingly, although Mariska Veres was born in the Netherlands, her father was a Hungarian Romani (a violinist), and her mother was a Franco-Russian. It seems to me that combination probably explains her smouldering looks and music talent.
Still one of my favorits. RIP Mariska.

Mariska was the daughter of a Hungarian father and a French-Russian mother. She was only 59 when she died on December 2, 2006, three weeks after she was diagnosed with gall bladder cancer. Mariska was born Maria Elisabeth Ender on October 1, 1947. The name Mariska (mah-REESH-kah) is Hungarian for Mary. "Law and Order SVU" star Mariska Hargitay's father was also Hungarian.

Wow. Amazing performance by all. I have been searching for a "real" live performance of Venus by Shocking Blue and I have finally witnessed the real thing and I am thrilled. This song came out in 1969 I believe and as I was 6 years old I still remembering hearing it on the radio and along with my parents, who were still in their twenties and we cranked it up. It was a great song. Most of what you see on the Internet in terms of this song are lip-syncs, and that's OK given its age. Mariska is still as beautiful and sultry as ever, RIP, and a great performance by her. I believe that's the original guitarist Robbie and the original drummer Cor, others may be original too but I just am not sure. But this is definitley a live performance. The others playing live are also good. There's backup singers, several guitarists, violins, a left handed bass player (not an original I think but still good), and so much more. I also believe that Cor was a left handed drummer, and very good. Thank you for posting this. It made my night.

@@fxtrader7856 I listened to both songs and there is one short part that might have the same sounding to it. The Banjo Song however is a cover of Stephen Foster’s “Oh Susanna”. There is so much music around that you will hear similarities in every song. The Banjo Song is a cover and so definitely a copy, which can’t be said about Venus.

Cool, I watched many videos of this song. So far this is the first live singing one I've seen.
I was 16 in '85 - that is when I heard the original for the first time ! Wow this video is so mega 80's!! The mullets and the musical notion that every instrument on earth had to be wedged into the mix.. and the foul fashions . Thankfully Mariska was singing as good as ever !
Been watching all the performances of Venus. Love her 80s hairstyle here. Such a catchy song. The guitar solo is pretty cool too and bluesy. Learned it this weekend.
